Lets nominate something that should be destined to hell.

Chewing with your mouth open

considerate_chewing_0.gif

It is the most DISGUSTING thing people seem to think is acceptable.
I mean seriously, if I wanted to see the chewed mess of food you've just shoved in, and listen to the horrible chup chup chup noise, I would ask. But as no one on the planet wants to hear or see your dinner, STOP FOR GODS SAKE!!!!!!!!!!

Lets banish this to hell.

Can we at least nominate physical things, whether they be real or fictional?

The Gear Grinding thread closed years ago.

Wow, (now I know I'm lucky enough to have already had a nomination thread started) so my next nomination won't appear until (assuming a thread appears every other day without exception), Chewing with your mouth open won't appear until 10/11/14!!!! (That's the 10th of November) :mischievous:

OK, the nomination backlog is huge, and, however much I enjoy running this cool wall, I can't guarantee that I'll aways be able to run it. So, until the long term future of the GTP Alternative Cool Wall can be secured, I'm going to close nominations.

If anyone is interested in taking up the position of my successor at some unspecified point in the future, feel free to PM me.

Nominations are temporarily closed

Can you post my nomination though???? PLease???

@fortbo If it's already been nominated, then yes. If it hasn't then no. Also, please try not to quote what the person immediately above you just said. It increases the amount of page that has to load and when I'm trying to get through these threads to list nominations and post the polls and stuff, it's a bit of a nuisance.

Again, if you didn't see it before, I'm looking for someone who can take over from me doing this whenever I wind up deciding/having to stop. That might not be for several years, it might only be in a few weeks, but I'd like to have someone in place who can take control whenever that time comes.

It'll need to be a mod who can edit the correct posts of yours.

Incidentally, the first post needs updating.

No, it doesn't, and yeah, it does.

Staff can hand over control of a thread to another user, as has happened before in the GTP Cool Wall.

And the nominations are closed...

Dammit, I'm surprised this got so big.

*cough*Icalldibsonthefirstnewnomination.*cough*ColtPeacemaker*cough*

Again, if anyone wants to be next in line to curate this, the place is up for grabs. You just might have to wait for a very long time, as at present I have no real intention of immediately stopping, but it's nice to know that someone's there, you know...

(If multiple people apply, the position of first in line will go to whoever is seen as best suited to the job, not necessarily the first person to reply.)

I'd be up for it, as long as nothing pops up that demands all of my time.

Just a suggestion.

Would it be possible to allow a single nomination whenever a new thread is posted? You could keep the backlog a fair size without completely halting nominations. Not telling you how to run it, but it's just a suggestion.

Then again, there's probably other things to consider that I missed.

As @Akmuq did not provide a sound recording of Barry White's voice as requested, his nomination will be skipped. Sorry.

I would also like to apologise for the lack of posts since Friday. The broadband for my area got accidentally taken out while some dead trees were being removed along my road. It's due to be repaired tomorrow. I'm currently posting from somewhere else.

Two announcements:

1) I am going to aim to put up four threads per week. Depending on how many responses the threads are likely to receive, threads will either be posted two at a time or one at a time. Which format is used will be decided based on whether or not I feel that the threads are likely to generate significant interest or not. Two threads which are unlikely to generate significant interest would be posted simultaneously, as they are likely to fall off the rumble strip front page faster than other pages and therefore avoid clogging up the rumble strip front page with alt cool wall threads. From experience I can also say that simultaneous posting tends to draw some interest to such threads which may otherwise only wind up with very few posts and a lack of discussion. Threads which are likely to draw significant interest (for example the SR-71) will be posted individually so as to avoid clogging up the rumble strip and over loading posters and whatever.

That was way too wordy.

2) As @Dagger311 has applied for heirdom to the alt cool wall curator's chair, nominations will reopen when there are four nominations left in the queue in the OP.

As a reminder, applications to take my place whenever I choose to give up are still open, heirdom is not necessarily first come first serve and is awarded based off of how suitable a candidate is considered to be to take over. This stipulation is mainly in place in case certain members of our community who in the past have proved themselves to be bad at running things (not naming any names) decide to apply. (I will consult staff as to who out of those who have applied to take over is deemed most appropriate to take over when I ask them to deal with the whole handover business. I expect them to say Dagger311 because Dagger311 applied first, but they might not. I don't know. If @Jordan applies then he'll probably complain that I tagged him unnecessarily in this post or something. I'm rambling like a respectable elderly gentleman with wire cutters now, so I'll shut up.)

Just a note, from next week onwards I intend to add a poll option allowing one to abstain from voting. This is primarily for my own sake so that whenever I load up the page on a poll I have no intention of voting on before the poll has finished I don't have to click the view results button, and its use is not generally encouraged. Abstinences will not be counted towards the final result.

Abstaining is not the equivalent of voting meh. Meh votes carry a swing, abstinences do not.

Also, just for the sake of opening a dialogue, I'm wondering if the "meh" option should be given a new name. I have no intention of making any changes to the formula itself at any point; it isn't broke, so I ain't gonna fix it (and for those who claim that the original Top Gear cool wall had no "meh" option and that it should therefore be removed, please remember, this isn't Top Gear), but the name "meh" for an option seems a bit too newfangled to me. Just my half a crown on the matter.

As long as you keep the ratios and the formula for the same for placement, then you could use the spreadsheet I post in the OP of the Mainstream Cool Wall, delete all the car info and use it for your Cool Wall

Nominations have been reopened. Go ahead. Nominate something.

I've decided to drop the abstain option until further notice. The new options for polls on GTPlanet have mae things a little complicated, so I want to sort that out first.

edit; @haitch40 that was quick wow. You asked that before I even had time to get to the bottom of the nominations thread and finish typing this message.
