Er ... it seems as though some do not understand the cool wall.

if I were to drive this to pick up a hot girl on a first date, first she'd think it was a Beetle, and second she would feel uncool being taken any where in it!

It is a great cool, to those who know.
But if you have to explain why it is cool to a hot girl, then I'm sorry but the car is at best meh!

Would love one, but my Wife would hate to be seen in it!

It's uncool!

(and I'm not even trying to be controversial!)

Ironically, that link doesn't work.
It's a search containing all your posts in Stotty's "How do you define a cool car" thread, none of which contain any references to race cars as far as I can see ;)

Your original response:
Cool
Small car
Beautiful
Older supercar
Roadster

Uncool
Supercar
Aggressively styled
4x4
Convertible based on existing car
Diesel
Car made to be fashionable
BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Ferrari, Vauxhall
Korean
Anything I would buy if I had the money*

However... Potentially Uncool cars can be redeemed with Cool properties, and Potentially Cool cars can be ruined by Uncool aspects. At this point, my fridge would be useful...

Simples!

Edit: Though I'm not sure how the Hummer got to where it is... Probably moved by the same zeeb who put the Enzo in Sub Zero

*Not cars I do buy when I have the money. Cars I would buy if I had the money.

If you want anyone to comply with the "RC = SU" rule you should, IMO, add the rule and the logic behind it to that thread.
Doing so will undoubtedly change my stance*.

*It's too late for the Abarth Carrera though, which was the point of this whole exercise. :sly:

Probably because race cars didn't even begin to cross my mind when they weren't included in the original GTP cool wall.

Since they don't belong on a cool wall and all.

Why on Earth would I want anyone to comply with what I say is cool?

I can't answer that, and I never claimed you did.

However: When you, as an authority figure on this site in general, make a statement like this...
Since they don't belong on a cool wall and all.
... I don't think it's unfair of me to ask the question; why?

You haven't asked a question of any kind. I have though.

Your statement was "If you want anyone to comply with the "RC = SU" rule you should, IMO, add the rule and the logic behind it to that thread."

My question is why I'd want anyone to do that. Given that I don't, that renders your entire segue meaningless.

You haven't asked a question of any kind.

Aren't race cars seriously uncool because they're not road legal?
No. World rally championship cars have been road legal for as long as I can remember. They're uncool because they're race cars.
I should have followed up with "why?", I see that now.
I expected you to pick up on my (failed) attempt at sarcasm, clearly I was wrong.

But could you pretty please, with sugar on top, help me understand why RC = SU?

That question was answered long ago. No, race cars aren't uncool because of any road legality question, they're uncool because they're race cars. WRC cars, given as an example, are road legal but they're uncool because they're race cars.
But could you pretty please, with sugar on top, help me understand why RC = SU?

The answer to that is in the McLaren MP4/4 Cool Wall thread.

I guess I'm seriously uncool, to you, because I think race cars are cool then.

Is that it, did I get it?

I think what Famine is getting at, is that the reasoning you use to define what makes a road car 'cool' (or not) can't be applied to racecars. You may as well include house plants in the cool wall polls if you're going to include racing cars.

Indeed. To recap, it's the fact that the cool wall is, or should be, for road cars. It's not a question of coolness, it's a question of production car. Race cars, purpose built race cars, shouldn't be nominated let alone voted on. By default, they are seriously uncool.

I kind of agree with it. A race car cool wall, as a separate idea, might be worth a shout. But the criteria for inclusion of these, ahem, museum pieces, would be most subjective.

Ummm... That would really just be a 'good wall' not a 'cool wall' though wouldn't it?

A race car can't be subjectively defined by fashion (or lack of) or by association with a certain type of person, as they're only driven by racing drivers hidden under 3 layers of nomex and a helmet. They aren't and can't be seen pulling up outside a trendy cafe. They can't be driven down the pub to show of in front of your mates, and they can't be used to pick up your date for the evening. The only thing a racing car is used for is winning races. So it's either a good (successful) race car, or it isn't. The only thing subjective about a race car is how it looks. As it's looks are mostly function over form, any 'style' it may have is only a happy accident, so is pretty much irrelevant.

Fair point.

We already have best and worst liveries threads which covers a lot of race car aesthetics.

I think my main beef is with the part where he says supercars or aggressively styled cars are automatically uncool, or that small cars are automatically cool. My Sunbird is a small car and not aggressively styled, I would've liked to see him vote cool on that.
