I see it as you just being "yourself".

(I seriously had to refrain from what I actually wanted to say.)

Well to be honest, the only reason I brought it up in my post was Famine's old assertion that small cars are cool. So I mentioned my car to point out a gap between the criteria he posted there and what he would probably say now (don't even remember if he had a post in that CW thread).

And you just have to somehow think that you have to bring up your car as a if it can be a proper comparison.

YOUR CAR IS NOT COOL, GET OVER IT, AND MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE.

And if you were referring to if Famine had posted in the Sunbird's thread, he did, quite a few times.

I already pointed out that I've never said that, so stop pretending I have.

There is no gap. Your Sunbird is neither small nor cool.
Maybe if you'll let me rename Hell after a certain TV show the next time someone says a car is too flashy, or aggressive, or whatever ro be cool.
You heard it here first, folks. The Cool Wall steward doesn't like it when you discuss why a car is cool in Cool Wall discussion threads.

But bringing up a piece of 80s dross in every damn thread is just fine.

Somebody, somewhere, is pulling this face. Possibly everyone. Now, back to the 356 Abarth.

I remember having a couple of huge coffee table books that were just full of pictures of cars when I was a kid. (Well, I probably still have them in the loft or something now, but that's besides the point.) One of them had illustrations of every single Porsche model ever made up to the time the book was published, and I think it was surprising how many variants there were on this model. The one in the OP is by far and away the most beautiful.

The other book had some great shots from AVUS, with quite a few of these showing up alongside other sports cars of the era.

Sub Zero. The Piltdown Man of Porsche. Except not fake.

You know, considering it's got the jawbone of a 911 mashed to the skull of a 356, that metaphor is somehow completely appropriate.

I already pointed out that I've never said that, so stop pretending I have.

Then where'd this come from?

Cool
Small car
Beautiful
Older supercar
Roadster

Uncool
Supercar
Aggressively styled
4x4
Convertible based on existing car
Diesel
Car made to be fashionable
BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Ferrari, Vauxhall
Korean
Anything I would buy if I had the money*

However... Potentially Uncool cars can be redeemed with Cool properties, and Potentially Cool cars can be ruined by Uncool aspects. At this point, my fridge would be useful...

Simples!

Edit: Though I'm not sure how the Hummer got to where it is... Probably moved by the same zeeb who put the Enzo in Sub Zero

*Not cars I do buy when I have the money. Cars I would buy if I had the money.

The previous post that quoted it listed it as coming from you, and the text was purple.

There is no gap. Your Sunbird is neither small

Well, if you think small means supermini-size then no, but that's kind of super-small. This was in the same segment as the Honda Civic of the day, so I feel safe calling it a small car.

nor cool.

I never said it was. I just said it's cooler than other FWD compact cars, which isn't saying much.

You heard it here first, folks. The Cool Wall steward doesn't like it when you discuss why a car is cool in Cool Wall discussion threads.

Never said that.

See above.

A thread asking what makes a car cool, not what cars are cool.

Find for me where I said small cars are cool, like you claim I said. If that's your best effort, it's time to stop digging - or at least dig up.
The previous post that quoted it listed it as coming from you, and the text was purple.
Indigo.
[Sunbird noises]
No-one cares. Seriously. NO-ONE. It had its chance - it was found wanting.
Never said that.
Then you may wish to reword what you said, because it looks for all the world like you saying if people discuss why a car is cool in a manner you don't like you're going to revisit your previous obsession to rename bits of the cool wall in your role as cool wall steward - stemming from someone imploring you to shut the hell up about your bland box of dross that no-one on this Earth but you gives half a crap about.

If you don't like people talking about what they find cool - when it disagrees with what you think - you should probably quit that role. Otherwise, put a sock in it.

Hmm... The Civic of the same era had a length of 3,965 mm, a width of 1,666 mm, and a height of 1,331 mm. The Sunbird was 4,590 mm long, 1,680 mm wide, 1,320 mm high. So, comparable height and width, but the Sunbird is 625 mm longer, roughly two feet. Not exactly in the same sector, really? The Prius sitting on the driveway outside right now is 4,450 mm long, 1,725 mm wide, and 1,490 mm tall. My mother's Skoda Fabia is 4,000 mm long, 1,642 mm wide, and 1,498 mm high. The Volkswagen Touran which I consider the car to be the car I have had more fun in than any other car which I have sat in is 4,405 mm long, 1,795 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall. The Porsche 356B Carrera GTL Abarth this thread is supposed to be about rather than your blood covered Sunbird is 3980 mm long, 1670 mm wide, and 1310 mm tall. The standard Porsche 356B is 4,001 mm long, 1,670 mm wide, and 1,330 mm high. The Talk Talk song I'm listening to as I type this is 9 minutes and 10 seconds long.

Did you care about any of that? Did you even bother to read it? I doubt it. But I bet people want to read that wall of text more than they want to read about how cool a GM J body car is.

I'm not getting tired of it at all.

Always makes me smile knowing that while I'm working on this engine, there's a little angry dude raging in between stacking tampons and soap.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I wish I was working on an engine at the moment, though! :(

How can something so ugly be so beautiful ? There's just something about it....Very Cool !

Nutty, but in a good way, confirmed.

Interestingly, that's almost, but not quite, a third of the length of the Deerhoof album, Apple O', which I am listening to right now, at 31 minutes and 15 seconds.

I like the word Carrera.

I've seen exactly one Golf that I can remember in all my 19 years of living in the States.

I know I'm incredibly late on this, but... no. Impossible. I suppose it's being based on your own personal memory - and perhaps you're overlooking them being renamed Rabbit for a good portion of their US life - but considering you've been to some cities (and you're only a couple hours away from me), I can't believe that the Golf is that much of a rarity. I think I see about a dozen a day!

Well considering it looks like an ant when you put it up next to a new Charger....I'd say it's pretty small.
Not a good comparison when you factor in that cars have had to grow to continually accommodate new regulations. 10 years ago, 18" wheels were large, expensive options. Now you've got cars sporting 20" wheels as standard equipment on performance cars.

It does surprise me as well but at least as far as I can remember I've never seen a ton of them. That doesn't mean they aren't around though but then again I don't particularly pay attention for them either.

Golfs/Jettas are practically as common as Civics in Madison. And on the topic of size, maybe half of the cars you'll see are around that size or smaller. Domestic V6-equipped midsize sedans make up most of the other half, along with the trucks and SUVs and crossovers.
