Eh. The 4L60 always could have used another gear between 3rd and 4th, but I've never been a fan of the 6 speed that GM hooked up to small blocks at the time so I don't think beyond the principle of having it as an option offering a stick in a car like this would have actually improved it.
This, and the market space that it occupied had no manuals as an option anyway.
Like the Calais it's based on the Senator was the luxury model of the group, with the Statesman-based Grange being a long-wheelbase version of it.
