@homeforsummer Brings up a great point. This car isn't uncool because it's "overrated" or too expensive.

It's uncool because it is the number one favorite car of 10-year old boys. Ask any kid to name a fast car, not the fastest car, just a fast car and the answer is always "Bagatee."

Drive around in this and 10 year old boys will squeal and talk about it's magical top speed and how it's the best car.

And this will make you look like a 10 year old boy.

Seriously Uncool.

I'm shocked a lot of people hate this car, or rather, judging by the SU votes.

My reason to vote this S-Z though was, it's one of my very favourite supercars out there, I love the body and taillights of it. Also one of teh few cars from 2005 that had 7 gears. Back then, a few F1 cars could do that.

And it was a new fresh start to break speed records. The 959 broke the 300 kms. This one did a 100 more.

It's on the fridge for me.

I don't understand why people think this is cool.
I like the car, alright? You think everyone that think this is cool, is wrong? Well, I do'nt mean to eb rude but here's what I think, honestly.

It's best to not understand. If you don't like it, just stay far from it and don't speak on it no more. Otherwise, people will jsut spot you saying stuff like that here and there and at some time, someone that have some actual respect to that car will rumble about as many words they can come up with to you. This is cool in my opinion because I do really like it, not because it breaks records. It may pick up dust and such but it goes for Ferrari cars or Lamborghinis too. they look beautiful though and have some speed in them. However, if you do nto have the money, they will pick up dust anyway like the Veyron.

I like the car, alright?
Nothing wrong with that.
You think everyone that think this is cool, is wrong?
No.
It's best to not understand.
Not necessarily.

I don't understand what you're trying to say here.

There's no other way for me to word it. I just don't understand why people think speed records are cool. I never said it was a crime or anything, but I just want to know why people think they're cool.
This is cool in my opinion because I do really like it, not because it breaks records.
Again, I'm not questioning why you like the car, I'm questioning why people think speed records are cool.

I don't understand what you're saying here either.

I was showing my point and explaining more about why I like it, that's all. If you don't understand what I'm trying to say here, it's a pity. Because if I kept trying to explain crap here, everyone would think of me that I'm not cool, at all. Since lots of poeple hate it because NFS fanboys, top speed, obvious choice for those who want speed and blahblahblah.

I will eb very honest, for those fanboys, those that love it because top speed, screw them. I hate them.

If I ever chose a car that had speed and looked good, Lamborghini Diablo it would be.

Out of curiosity, why is this an uncool attribute?

To me, the fact VW has gone "sod it" and produced a car they can't remotely recoup the cost on (offset by poor saps in Golfs instead) is quite cool.
It's incredibly uncool from a buisness standpoint, even if they have the money to spare.

Profit = cool

Exactly. Losing money is never cool. Ever lost 100 dollars in a poker game? If you have, you'll know what I'm saying .

However from an onlookers standpoint, they may think it's cool that the company went over the top just so they can claim to have the fastest production car.

But the "business standpoint" is incredibly uncool from the average Joe or Jane's standpoint.

Maybe, maybe not, but losing money is never, ever cool.

It's not losing money.

It's spending on coolness.

Elvis knew that. Which is why he gave away Cadillacs whenever he could. :D

Still, VW isn't exactly giving Veyrons away, so...

Elvis gave Cadillacs away? I wish I was a friend of his!

Of course, If I were, I'd more than likely not be alive now...

Plus when the regular one ended up with the 987 horsepower rating in the US, I remember Automobile (I think it was Ezra Dyer) asked about it and the response was kind of a "don't worry about it" wink, so each individual horsepower is probably a bit more special than those of typical other cars.
I do wonder if by that stage some sort of variance in horsepower is inevitable. If you stick a bunch of identical subcompacts on a dyno I'd expect to see at least a one or two horse variance within a margin of error, but when you're talking four turbos and sixteen cylinders and an arbitrarily plucked "1,001 hp" it must be a bit of a crapshoot. Not least as atmospheric conditions and dynomometers will vary also.

Different dynamometer brands and models will be off by around 10-25% (a wholly made up number, but that's what I've seen). Then you have the distinction between hub dynos and wheel dynos, inertial dynos (the infamous Dynojet) and brake dynos, and operators who'll gleefully apply SAE corrections and drivetrain loss corrections willy-nilly without any empirical or testing basis.*

Then there's the weather, tire conditions, oil condition, fuel quality variance, how fast or slow the "sweep" is performed (and whether they do a sweep test or a braked test holding the car to a certain rpm), the gear used, heat soak for the car, the dyno, the exhaust fans, etcetera...

I think a 5% variation between cars for most cars is likely. For something in which peak hp and peak torque are both electronic figments of the ECU's imagination, it's possible the variance in the Veyron could be less (percentage-wise).

*Some dynos have a coastdown mode to assess drivetrain losses... as for proper SAE correction, that varies greatly per car... cars like the Veyron and GT-R, which use MAP and temperature sensors to compensate for weather, shouldn't have SAE corrections applied to them!

This car is like Nicki Minaj: annoying, dull, and has a biiiig idiotic fan base because she has a big booty.

Unlike Nicki Minaj, this car actually has a purpose, and can be used daily.

Back then, a few F1 cars could do that.

All F1 cars had 7-gears by then.

Actually, it had already been a couple of years since all cars had 7-gears.

Eventhough owning and driving one of these will make you a colossal bell end.

The engineering gone into this thing makes it Sub-Zero.

It's an icon in the automotive industry, a huge leap forward in engineering, and a legend that will go down in history as the car that managed to create the same reaction as a lowlife cocaine-snorting celebrity from the general public. Naive children who don't understand love it, the general people hate it, and only true fans stick by it. Seriously uncool.

But since it has a remarkable place in the automotive history for its finest engeneering, I'll give it an Uncool rate.

Minaj doesn't have a respectable Guiness world record. It may not be the best but no one can say it's not the fastest (I know this isn't the Super Sport model, but same coolness can apply). It doesn't matter if it's big and fan,if thids cones people will stare for sure not because they don't know what it is, because they know it's cool, that why it's cool.

I'm pretty sure most non-car guys around here can instantly identify a Bugatti.
My closest friend can't. I showed him a clip from Jalopnik yesterday and he saw the car's garish paint job and he asked what it was and what it costs.
