The challenger would get a meh to cool but the charger is a different story. Any car with 4 doors that can do 200 MPH is cool. period.
Give it 700 HP V8 and it's S-Z.
Dodge didn't want to make a sports car with this. It's exactly what it should be, a big powerful touring car.

I find it quite amusing that one of Chrysler's sedans outperforms their current halo car.

This is the exact reason why I can't stand the whole Hellcat craze. Its got 707hp. Awesome, but what else can it do? That's the problem, and why I applaude Chevy and the Z/28 and why I'm hopeful for the GT350. Those are cars that are competing on a global scale. This only really appeals to the Good 'Ole Boys who still think that cars were best back in the day with Cudas and Boss 429s. While @carracerptp brought up a good point that this is NOT meant to be a sports car, just look at what BMW is doing with the M5, Audi with the RS7, and other cars of the like. While they may not give the same power per dollar spent, they represent a much better all around package. Is the power impressive? Yes, very. But there is so much more than just power. I can be more generous to the Charger than the Challenger, but this is still very much uncool. But I wouldn't skip a chance to at least try it.

700hp for $64k is affordable. hp/$ wise.

The Tesla P85D is currently electronically limited to 130 mph top speed. Tesla will raise the speed limiter to 155 mph soon, putting it on par with most of the German rivals. I believe the second fastest (in terms of top speed) sedan is the Porsche Panamera Turbo S, which will go to 192 mph.

If you wanted a "safe" choice, sure, the M5 is miles better if you don't look at cost. Maybe the S65AMG is even better than that?
When did for a car to be cool it had to be compared with others outsides it's class? Dodge isn't saying this is a M5 killer. They are saying its a 4 sedan with 700HP that comes in a price it's actually not only affordable on the used market.

I can see how this is a fun, or exciting, car. 700hp in that package is, as RTH says, value for money. But not affordable. And it's got a ridiculous name. And it's part of the 2010s horsepower race between the Detroit three; this is a seriously uncool pursuit. Nothing screams ego stroke than "I have more horsepower than you".

I'm not entirely sure how that statement is ridiculous. People who buy cars like this more than likely buy them to purely brag and go on about how much horsepower they have, to me, that makes them tools. The Charger platform isn't really good for track or drag use, which is where this power would actually do some good. At least the Challenger is built with straight line speed in mind and doesn't pretend to be anything other than your basic muscle car (gobs of power with nothing else to offer).
And if the Challenger Hellcat was up for polling, I'd probably give it a low cool.
