This was the worlds fastest production sedan back in the day. It has immense presence. You WILL notice if one rumbles past. I love it. Rarer than hen's teeth though. Sub zero.

And that's what makes it so uncool. It seems like any time anyone says something negative about Australian cars many Australian members go nuts. That sort of hostility about a car or a car's origin is extremely uncool.

It could be the best car in the world but if it comes from the land down under it's not going to be cool.

No, Aussies only get hostile when an argument between Ford and Holden pops up. American's get fired up when people tell them their cars are ****, so what is the difference? Enlighten me on your reasoning behind your opinion mate because at the moment it's pretty bogus.

There is no exception to opinion on this car, it's sub-zero.

I think Joey's first post verges on racism, and I take it slightly personally not having anything to do with the car at hand. Isn't his post basically saying all Australians are hostile tossers?

Unless you're an Aussie... you really wouldn't know what this is... but I've seen it run... and it's a pretty nifty car.

True old school Muscle... it raced on Sunday and drove home in the afternoon. (really)

Rates a cool. Borderline subzero for possibly being the coolest Falcon ever.

Fastest Four door in the world in its day. if you take into account the year and era its sub zero. The sound is incredible and the power just crazy. 370hp

Give you an idea.. 1971 mustang boss 351 made 370hp and was only .6 faster to 60mph. yet the falcon is has 2 extra doors and is "Australian".

Did it really go 300km/hr with the optional Bathurst gears, or was that really only for race trim? Sort of like the Dodge Superbird did 200mph, and people claim it like it was for the road car yet it was really the Stock Car with a much more powerful version of the engine.

It's Australian, which makes the car so unbelievable uncool that the car should burst into flames. It's also a classic muscle car which is extremely uncool too. It's got a lame name as well. This car gets a seriously uncool.

Seriously that's a pretty dodgy statment there. 👎 I'm siding with Paulie right now...it is a little racist IMO. Classic Muscle...uncool. Sorry but those two words never go well in a sentence. Seriously but, you think a mini is cooler then a GT-HO. :ouch: I'm gonna stop now. Don't wanna get in an argument about it. Sub Zero for me though.

Ugly, muscle car, likely handles like a turd, a Ford...

Yeah, nothing really going on here... uncool at the very least.

"Vipers are worse than anything Europe can offer." Take it. Take it like a man. I dare you.

OK? I agree with that statement.

Enlighten me on your reasoning behind your opinion mate because at the moment it's pretty bogus.

Uh.....

I said the car is uncool so now I'm racist. That's a bit extreme and that's the attitude that makes the car uncool. Many Australians car people, not all, that I come across are so absurdly vocal about their cars it just can't make it cool.

I bet you that if I said the car was American and that made it uncool no one would be calling me a racist and not many people would really care. In fact I get into discussions daily about the craptasticness of American cars and I've never once been called a racist. Seriously you guys need to get over yourselves.

But thank you for proving my point. Many Australian car fans get hostile when someone says anything remotely negative about their cars. That right there drops the cool-o-meter off the freakin charts. People who get hostile about cars don't make those cars very cool.

im not defending the car, everyone is open to their opinion but to say that all australian cars are not cool, kinda can see why you cause us to argue. if we made this thread almost 40yrs ago then you would be impressed by the car, but sadly looking back its easy to see it as a crap car.

Not counting an exotic car by lambo, ferrari it would be hard to get a car that was as fast and "cool" in 1971.

You can call the car crap all you like Joey (need I remind you YOU were the one that went berserk at me over the 300SL, which incidentally I have warmed to since anyway, but the point of you being a hypocrate is there), but you said the car was crap BECAUSE it was Australian and all Australians are hostile and, basically speaking, tossers, even though that's not the word you used. That's racist. Your response is clutching at straws and avoiding the issue you know is there.

Was going to go with cool, but after reading through some responses I went with Sub Zero. 👍

Here's my unabridged version of my thoughts of this car.

Its Australian - that has little to no relevence to whether its cool or not, and nor do the people who support it. And not every Aussie goes beserk over Australian cars, so what people here are doing is drawing on stereotypes that they hear here, in the news, on TG, wherever. Its an in joke that Ford and Holden people hate each other to death - we are petrol heads first, H v F second. And only a few are silly enough to think that our cars can take and beat the world. Its rubbish and wrong. While the VE is being exported everywhere, it is hardly a world beater, merely a sound option in the lineup of contenders.

Second of all, the reason why so many Aussies like this is because they were young when it was glorified, and they have always thought of it as the best, even though they know it isnt. Sort of how I'd much prefer a Diablo over a Murcielago. The fact that it was the fastest 4 door car of its time sealed the deal.

This car is a horrible handling car, that was downright dangerous to drive and race. I don't care about the powerplant or the power, the fact of the matter is that this wasn't a sports car, merely a sedan with too much power.

And.....after you climatise yourself to the aesthetics, is it really that much of a looker? To the bonnet is fine, but after that its rather ugly.

So there.

Meh.

I actually haven't called the car crap at all, I called it uncool. There is a huge difference there. And I didn't say the car was crap because a lot of Australians get fired up about it, I said it was uncool because of that. Once again, big difference. Crap cars can be cool, just as good cars can be uncool.

And if you want to read all the into my statements, I can't really stop you, but I'm not going around calling all Australians tossers. I know a lot of Australian people and most of them don't seem to give a rat's behind about Ford or Holden or any other Australian cars for that matter.

I think you guys are taking this way too seriously and blowing it way out of proportion. If I had said this about any other car there would be no problem I assure you. I've voted several cars horribly uncool because of their fans and nothing exploded like this.

And for the last time I'm not saying all Australians are like this, just a lot of their car fans are. I say the exact same thing about Jeep's, Skyline's, and other various vehicles. Fans ruin cars for me, end of story.

Waaaay too many replica's, most XW-XB's I see on the roads these days are fake GT's. Holden on the other hand had the sense (or atleast willing to spend the money) to make their special car a coupe, no one can replicate that without a crazy amount of work.

I feel I might be a little harsh on the car (car itself, not the fanbase, even though after all it is a Falcon sedan) by giving it 'uncool' but I guess hearing the absolute BS stories about the car from friends fathers most my upbringing put me off the car totally. :indiff:

It's a meh. Generic old muscle Ford ( uncool), but has power and sound, which raises it to meh-status. IF it wouldn't look so much like Cortina/Taunus sedan, it could be cool.

Here's some simple facts for you.

Was the fastest 4 door sedan in Australia for nearly 20yrs.
Was the quickest 4 door sedan for nearly 20yrs.
Won Bathurst in 1971.
Was featured in a Wheels magazine article travelling along the Hume Highway (one of our biggest roads!) clocking the 140mph speedo with nearly 1500rpm to go, indicating that the car you bought from the showroom would exceed 160mph in a heartbeat.

These things alone gave the GT-HO it's legendary status. And unlike the 300SLR, it was a case of walking into the showroom, paying your $4000 and driving off from Sydney or your local capital city on the road, taking it to the Mt.Panorama track straightaway with the capability to win the Bathurst 1000.

Try doing that with a V8 Supercar today, never......gonna.......happen!!

Sub-Zero.

Two of those "simple facts" are wrong.

Two of those "simple facts" are wrong.

Actually, was meant to type Australian, not world....you're right there Famine (as always).....sorry, it's 5am, brain was 90% there. Why I added the Carlton bit I don't know. :dunce:

Will edit immediately.

Does it do shrimp on the barbie? If not, uncool.

@Joey's Post: You guys are just furthering his point that you guys get upset when something regarding an Australian car is put in the negative. Nothing about his post was racist though.

The car is uncool because Australians defend it way too seriously, and because you guys defend all your cars, they're all uncool. Talking of picking a straws, I would say Paulie is the one trying to play the Race Card when several of us understood Joey's point.

im not defending the car, everyone is open to their opinion but to say that all australian cars are not cool, kinda can see why you cause us to argue.

Exactly what I was thinking. To me, I have yet to see an australian member of this forum who causes a fuss about australian cars without a reason whatsoever. However, if you start saying erroneous things about them, you bet your 🤬 things will get ugly.

On the car. Sub-🤬-Zero. It's so awesome that it doesn't fit in one world.

It's Australian, which makes the car so unbelievable uncool that the car should burst into flames.
Joey, when you said that, surely you were expecting something like this to happen... you basically slagged off Australia as a country, of course the resident Aussies on this forum are going to show up and defend their honour. Where a car is from has absolutely no effect on how cool a car is; a Murcielago could be Nigerian and I'd still think it's seriously cool.

Now, simple question: why does being Australian make the car seriously uncool?

Do note that only us Kiwis are entitled to slag off Australians, just like the H v F rivalry there's also one between Aus and NZ ;) :P

Now, simple question: why does being Australian make the car seriously uncool?

Why does being Korean make a car uncool?

To be fair to Joey, his experience says that when you say you don't like "n" car and it's Australian, Australians leap vociferously to its defence - which he dislikes, and generates the image that Aussies can't take a bit of criticism.

On the other hand, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Say "Australian cars aren't cool because Australians always get upset when you say their cars aren't cool" and Australian people will get upset. Doesn't really prove the point, any more than if I said "If you disagree with me, you are wrong" proves that I'm right.

Being Korean doesn't make a car uncool though, who said that? The Proto Spirra is sub-zero, and the second-gen Hyundai Tiburon is cool.
