Ford Falcon [XY] GT-HO Phase III

That basically says that you voted a car for something that wasn't 100% certain. Off-topic, I wonder how would you have reacted if Paulie had said in the 300SL poll that he voted the car Uncool because he knew that everyone would jump on him if he did...

Not only that...

The 300SL should also be uncool, because if you say it's uncool some GTP members get defensive. So why the double standard?

Because it is?

In subjective matters, opinion is always fact.

So I can say you are wrong about the Genesis being uncool, then? After all, my opinion is that the Genesis is Sub-Zero. Not to mention my opinion, mine, is fact.

It's a fact to say my opinion about the Genesis is that the car is Sub-Zero. It's not a fact to say that the car is universally accepted to be Uncool, which is basically what homeforsummer said. Otherwise, Sharky. wouldn't be wrong.

So I can say you are wrong about the Genesis being uncool, then?

Yes. Because it might not be your opinion.

And also no. Because it's my opinion, and I cannot be wrong about my opinion.

Fun, isn't it? :D

Well then check again, we are one of the more multi-national countries in the world. Still have your eyes closed much?
You're not a race, thus Joey's post was not racist. You talk about us having our eyes closed yet you're throwing out accusations that aren't even remotely correct.

You're just looking for a way to make Joey look like this big racist SOB just because he said Australians defend their cars too seriously. Let it go.

Why does some people take their opinion as fact? Both are Sub-Zero in my book, even if I voted the Genesis "Cool" at the time, but that doesn't mean it's a fact.

If you'd read the rest of what I was saying, you might have realised I was expressing an opinion...

No, really?

Why does some people take their opinion as fact?

That you said Sharky. was wrong makes your opinion not an opinion anymore, but an universal fact, which is not. He can't be wrong, because it is his opinion.

That you said Sharky. was wrong makes your opinion not an opinion anymore, but an universal fact, which is not. He can't be wrong, because it is his opinion.

And yet, at the same time, he can be, because it's not necessarily someone else's opinion. Like I explained to you.

In subjective matters, someone else's opinion is always both right and wrong at the same time, depending on the observer. Call it Schroendinger's Car, if you will.

That you said Sharky. was wrong makes your opinion not an opinion anymore, but an universal fact, which is not. He can't be wrong, because it is his opinion.

No it doesn't.

If someone said X footballer was amazing and I said they were rubbish, it doesn't mean that it's now a fact that they're rubbish, it just means that my opinion of them is less than the person who said they were great.

Ditto the cars. He said they were cool. I disagreed. It doesn't make either of us wrong, but it does mean we have a difference in opinion.

Incidentally, I expressed why I thought he was wrong. He simply stated the cars were cool.

False. The first car is utterly unheard of except to video game fans and Koreans. The second is still a Hyundai. Neither are cool.
Maybe, but if you rolled up to the lights in a Spirra you'd get a lot of "sweet car bro" looks from pedestrians and other drivers; even though they don't know what it is, they'll still think it's cool. The Tiburon is still a Hyundai, yes, but if you took all the badges off would anyone know that?

Same thing applies to lots of other cars. It's not so much about *what* the car is, it's more about the reaction you can get from people. If you drove, for example, a FPV GT (the latest performance Falcon) in the UK - a country where hardly anyone would know what it is - you'd still get appreciative smiles and thumbs up (replete with cheesy grin) from other motorists. Without even knowing what it is, they're showing appreciation for the car - and the same thing applies to "coolness".

There, I explained where I was coming from when I said those two cars were cool. :P Consider this settled

Err...

That doesn't really change the fact that "Australian" isn't a race.

That's right, it's a nationality. Your ethnicity (race) is based on your ancestral lines. Now, the aboriginals are a race, the caucasians are a race, the arabs are a race and the asians are a race. But when you are all born in the same country for generations and you intermix with eachother's races when you are producing the next generation, we all become part of the Aussie race. A couple of people I know are 1/8 Kiwi, 1/8 English, 1/4 Mauritian & 1/2 German and there are quite a few people who can claim that because their ethnicity is so mixed that they call themselves Australian because they were born here, they were raised here, and they call here home.

Eh it was me, I thought I'd get some sarcastic comments with the ":P" smiley and that would be it. I didn't think I would be called racist, which Famine is right there is no Australian race.

This is just proving my point even more though, like I said I didn't call the car bad and I didn't call the Australians bad people. To get so bent out of shape for calling a car uncool because a lot of Australian car fans take it way too seriously, is akin to a Star Wars geek stabbing a Star Trek geek for saying Captain Kirk would kick Luke Skywalker's ass. It's just silly.

No, what you said in your original quote was that it was seriously uncool because it was Australian.....period. You didn't expect 1/2 of the Aussie's to backlash at you for that?? :odd: That's just like saying every American car is seriously uncool because it's American. Both are not true but to put it in that context doesn't make you racist, it makes you ignorant and in some cases that's just as bad.

It's not a fact. It's the way some people think, including you.

Problem is he didn't say he thought the car was uncool, he said the car was seriously uncool because it was Australian. Obviously things will get ugly here, but if you say an australian car is uncool for other reasons, there's a chance people will not jump on you, because they shouldn't.

Amazing that I was thinking the same when I read the first posts of this thread.

They consider it to be one if not the best australian car ever, it's not the same thing. If Joey D could say something else to prove the car is uncool instead of "it's australian", maybe the australian members wouldn't get pissed.

Of course it "is", as Famine said, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Had you said something else, things would probably have not gone this way.

Except that is the reason why I think it is so uncool. I don't care if you defend a car you like, it's when you get over-zealous with it that it drops the thing into seriously uncool territory. That's exactly why a car like the GT-R can never be remotely cool.

Well answer this then, why is the GT-R in the COOL section of the cool wall then?? ;) Exactly. Your quote is mute there, so quit it with the Aussie car bashing.

And I could have easily been proven wrong. I could made my statement, got a bunch of ":P" with sarcastic comments that were funny (like Jay's boomerangs at a 100 paces) and it would have been cool. But no, I was called racist for not liking an Australian car. I mean really how cool is that?

Once again, it was you said that because it was Australian, it's the reason you voted seriously uncool. You didn't even get into the numbers, the fact that it's a car that you could buy in the showroom and then compete for overall victory at one of the world's toughest circuits, or it's rarity. It's the 1970's version of a Viper ACR, which makes it very tough and it's looks are drooled over by muscle car owners all over this region, let alone Australia.

Gone for Meh. Utterly irrelevant to me, never had any impact on my life, wouldn't have known what it was, and not as cool as the equivalent American beast. But at the same time, it counters by still being a bit of a beast, and by looking okay-ish.

Nicely said HFS when you didn't know much about it, you took it as it is and went for what you felt about it.

homeforsummer
I think Joey worded it badly, but this sentence above is exactly what he's getting at. Joey's comment certainly invoked a response, but threads get like this even if there isn't a blatant comment like that one. That should tell people something...

Any time criticism is levelled at a car of Australian decent, certain members get up in arms about it, seemingly forgetting that just because they think it's cool, it doesn't automatically mean they're right. No doubt if Joey hadn't even posted, there'd still be "raised voices" as soon as anyone else dared to mention that it was uncool, or crap, or whatever.

No, because they didn't use the comment that it was Australian, therefore equalling seriously cool.

Essentially, this sort of arguement will always happen as long as people take their home-market cars too seriously.

Pretty much all of Australia's good cars have pretty much been based off either a Falcon or a Commodore. Only certain models of each have ever been distributed around the world, and been given just praise if it was warranted. For many though, they are essentially irrelevant outside of their home market, and Aussies who feel the need to defend them to the hilt have to realise that. When a car doesn't have any impact on your life, then you can't expect other people to find it cool.

The 300SL didn't have any impact on my life, hell I've only seen one in the flesh, but it's credentials gave it an automatic sub-zero from me. Same goes with this, regardless of nationality, it's results speak for itself.

Now, seperately, what is it with you guys lately whenever I post a new thread up in the automotive section?? First the TKR thread, then the Tanner Foust video, and now this.....it's like you are all on a mission to turn every thread I put up lately into a complete and utter 🤬 fight.

Err...

That doesn't really change the fact that "Australian" isn't a race.

Ah, my bad, I interpreted his post as saying Australian is not a race of [many] people, aint the English language a dog?:sly:

So maybe racist was a little extreme then given the explainations, although it was certainly not a wise thing to say regardless.

Is it beautiful? Yeah!
Does it make sense (practical, gives what promised, costs accordingly)? Who cares?
Do I want it? Yes.
Would I buy it? Where do I sign?
Do I fit in it? Definitely.
