Mercedes-Benz W201 (190)

I'm nominating the W201 as a whole, so all models are included from the boggo diesel up to the Cosworth, though not racing versions.

I really think it should be one specific model. By just nominating "all models" you won't really get a good result, just a mess.

^ I'd have to agree. I have no problem putting it to a poll, but I think it would be easier to judge if you chose a specific version. Or at least narrowed the scope in some way.

One car I feel deserves to be on the wall is the:

1969-1973 Datsun 510 (Nissan Bluebird 1600) 2 -door sedan
96 HP 1600cc SOHC Inline 4 Engine
Top Speed 98 MPH
3 Speed Automatic or 4 Speed Manual
Front Brakes: Solid Disk
Rear Brakes: Drum
Front Shocks: struts, coil springs, anti-roll bar
Rear Shocks: semi-trailing arms, coil springs (One of the first cars to feature IRS)
Dimensions: L: 160.2 in, W: 61.4 in, H: 55.1 in
Weight: 2125 lbs

Pros: Small, quick acceleration. Easily modifiable, parts interchangable with 240Zs. Can be considered a sleeper in many kinds of races.

Cons: Have been known to have some electrical problems. Can rust easily.

Was the car first used by Paul Newman in his racing career

...nnnnno. We'll see how it goes voting the model. People can judge as they wish. Perhaps it'll encourage people to explain themselves rather than voting anonymously... ;)

We'll see how it goes I suppose. I'm not sure why it'll make things less anonymous though.
For me personally it just makes my vote less representative of what I think about certain models in the line-up, and like I said before, they vary. A lot.

Perhaps anonymous wasn't the right word, but hopefully it'll encourage people to get into the discussion a bit more. If someone votes cool then they might have to come in and explain that the Cosworth swayed them even though they thought about voting it uncool because of the diesel... that sort of thing.

For me personally it just makes my vote less representative of what I think about certain models in the line-up, and like I said before, they vary. A lot.

And like I said before, you'll just have to carefully consider your vote. You'll have to decide whether one model is enough to make up for another model, or consider the model in comparison to it's peers, or anything like that.

It's not rocket science ;)

AC/Shelby Cobra 427

production: 1965-1967
Engine: 7.0 V8
Transmission: 4 speed

what needs to be added?

Don't forget 0-100-0 performance of 13.9 seconds. It took the McLaren to beat that some 30 years later. :D

Cheers,
Jetboy

Then you'd have to decide which was more influential to your vote, wouldn't you...

I think you should go with one version because, you might go with the Diesel version, and others might go with the Cosworth version. And wouldn't they both have different specs as well?

Yes. Yes they would. No, I'm not going with one version. It'll make people think, and it'll make the poll more interesting.

This isn't just the coolest car of all time, it's also probably the coolest thing ever made by man.

The Napier Mobil Special

railtonspecial01.jpg

In 1938, this was the fastest car in the world, capable of 353 miles per hour. They kept improving it and breaking their previous records, and in 1947 it became the first car with proper driven wheels to break the 400 mph mark. This record remained unbroken until 1964. For 17 years, the only way to go faster on land was to use a rocket or a jet engine. Sure the speed is amazing, but the thing that makes this car so cool is the source of the power. It has not one but TWO 24 liter, W12 (not the VW kind of W, but the kind that has three banks of four), DOHC, 48 valve, supercharged Napier Lion aero engines, that had been built to withstand the strains of running at double the RPM than it would ever do in a plane (3600 doesn't seem like a lot, but keep in mind each cylinder, CYLINDER, displaces 2 liters, and that the engine is roughly the size of a refrigerator) that produced 1350 horsepower, each. The car was also just shy of 29 feet long and weighed almost 3 tons.

1982-1986 Toyota Celica Supra MkII

Engine: 2.0L - 2.8L Inline 6

Power: 125 - 178bhp
Torque: 127 - 212 lb.ft.
Weight: ~3,000
0-60mph(100kph): 8-10 seconds

This car is and was brilliant. It was a real head turner and had a fantastic interior. Don't forget once modified the noise it made was just great stuff.

How funny that an Escort (US Spec even!) has the same 0-60 time that a GTI does. I'm not insulting the Escort, more the GTI.
