I'm undecided on this one. I've been into this thread about five times and I can't bring myself to hold any opinion on this car whatsoever. No vote from me.

I won't be voting though since some people can't handle my opinion on here.

You could just vote and not give it... Lots of people do.

What's the fun of a cool wall without a proper fight?

JCE
You seem to be on a tangent . What about it is stupid? The speed is irrelevant, but the styling and at that time a good drivetrain if taken care of should at least get a cool.

Broe, it's just bogus.

For all those complaining about the lack of manual, bolting a 6spd out of a WRX into these is apparently very easy, many owners do such a conversion.

WRX? 6-Speed?

Not even the latest WRX has a 6-speeder manual, it's always been a 5-speed. The STi on the other hand...

I was gonna vote Cool for this, then I realized this is one of the car names used by Clamp to name their characters on Magic Knight Rayearth, an anime I watched almost ten years ago, and which got me into the anime thing. Alcyone was one of the villains, namely this one:

so, for that alone and for bringing back memories of old, SUB-EFFIN-ZERO.

The starship look never really did it for me with 90's cars.

It took me a good minute the first time I saw this car to figure out the windows and the rear end.

Uncool.

Yeah.........WRX STi. You clearly understood what I was saying.;)

CraftyLandShark is around, he's usually stirring up trouble in the Opinion forum.

He is? Wierd, how did I not notice this? I'm looking into it.

I like most unique cars (i.e. Ford Probe, Subie SVX, Gumpert Apollo and cars like that). I really hate people who just like fast expensive cars like Zonda's and Koenigseggs. (plus people who think Ferraris are the fastest cars in the world)

I voted cool, but only because "meh" is not an option.

As Subies of that era go, the car is pretty cool.
Some of the "quirky" stuff--particularly the funky windows, just plain "miss the mark" in my book.

It's like someone said, "Great shape! Kinda sexy! It'll appeal to most of the spectrum! Hmmm, can't have that! let's **** it up with these asinine windows that make tollbooths and drive-thrus a pain in the ass!
Oh, and don't forget to alienate the enthusiast driver, offer it with no manual trans option!"

How did I miss this thread??

Former SVX owner here, as some already pointed out. Obviously, I have to give it a rating that transcends sub-zero. I'll call it "Absolute Zero". :sly:

It's not overly fast, no, and Subaru didn't have a manual capable of reliably handling 230 bhp in 1991. I suppose they could have engineered one if they truly believed in the car, but they already took a loss of several grand on each car as I remember. But for the enthusiast, the 5-speed Impreza RS and WRX transmission are a fairly straightforward swap - a crossmember and pedal assembly is the only major fabrication needed. The DCCD 6-speed from the STI has been done as well. Turbo and Supercharged engine builds have put it in the 4.5-to-60 range.

Despite this, it had its problems (flawed OEM automatic, bad rear bearings, high front brake wear, etc), which is why I no longer own it. The fat maintenance budget simply didn't permit keeping it. I described it somewhere else as a bit like owning an Alfa Romeo - it'll give you headaches during the day, but at night you just can't help yourself from getting up and staring out your window at it sitting in the driveway. The ride was excellent, the handling was quite good for a heavy GT, and the interior was fantastic for the time, save for cheap wood-effect dash inserts for which there are aftermarket solutions. The windows served an aerodynamic purpose (the glass-to-glass canopy design produced a sub-.30 cd), and had the pleasant side effect of allowing you to cruise at highway speeds with the windows down without having to shout to talk to your passenger. Drive-thrus sucked, yes, but who among us couldn't stand to avoid drive-thrus more often? :sly:

I miss it and constantly look at them on Autotrader ... I'll probably succumb one day, but for now my trusty Outback is going to have to suffice.
