Update on YLOD.

There's good news, it started and gave me back my disk  but then things went a little downhill with it refusing to log me in to PSN returning Error Code 80010519. :banghead:

Input GT6 disk but would not run so I assume I have not connected the ribbon correctly to the mother board, was a little unsure it was in correctly when I was rebuilding so will take the top off and have a refit so hopefully not a big problem.

However the screen then froze :scared: and I had to switch off at the back, left it for a few minutes and then tried again and it started :), required a disk check due to me turning it off, and invited me to log in. Same error code but at least I'm in and am currently backing everything up, that is if it lasts the next 82 minutes.

Not at all sure the problem is cured yet but I can now relatively easily try it again and hopefully will have a current backup to load on the second hand PS3 slim when it arrives later this week. 👍

I know it's a pain in the backside, however I would encourage everyone to take periodic backups of their PS3 hard drives.

My personal experience has been that occasionally something causes corruption of stuff in the file system, which can lead to bad behavior of the PS3. My PS3s have a habit of periodically locking up solid, or spontaneously rebooting, sometimes accompanied by a series of beeps and usually followed by a lengthy rebuild of the file system.

A periodic full restore from a backup has been shown to reduce the frequency of these hangs and certainly helps reduce the agonies of reconstruction when things go seriously south.

Remember there are two types of disk drives. Those that have failed and those that will fail. :D

If anyone wants advice on what to do and how to do it, do contact me. Good luck @lionelg !!

Planning a four race event next weekend. tracks will be picked by voting on the day.
The cars, i am going to do a random pick on the kudosprime.com website now and what comes up is what we will race.
All races will be stock, oil change and brake balance can be changed only.
Going to pick cars now.
Car 1 1989 Mazda mx5 miata na 89 comfort soft tyres.
Car 2 2008 Suzuki sx4 wrc 08 Race hard tyres.
Car 3 1970 Ford Mustang Trans Cammer {grand touring garage} sports soft tyres.
Car 4 2008 Fiat 500 1.2 8v lounge ss 08 comfort medium tyres.

gone for stock tyres as well this time, you will need to go to some different tracks to try these cars as they are vastly different in the way they drive.
was going to say we all use the same car at each track, car to be chosen first then track vote.
Enjoy.
I propose we do 1 lap in silence in f1 cars at Suzuka in memory of Jules Bianchi who was buried yesterday.

Have now had PS3 running for 2 days since YLOD and, fingers crossed, all appears OK, although having said that I suspect tomorrow it wont be, it's being so cheerful keeps me happy. :)

It now seems, with hindsight, that the repair was, if anything, too easy to have actually worked but I'm pleased it did. Still waiting for the second hand PS3 slim replacement to arrive.

Now the only thing I have to remember is to take the disk out before I shut it down.

Thanks to everyone for your support, it really did help.

Way to go Lionel and hang on to those positive thoughts about your repair skills! :P:cheers: My slim has been mostly trouble free with the occasional hang mentioned by @GBO Possum but it always brings itself back. I need to follow his advice to be safe though I suppose - I usually just backup my GT6 save data. Anyway, glad you're back in action:tup:.

Good afternoon geezers, POND 009.JPG thanks to all who raced yesterday and made it the fun day it was.
Next weekend will be very similar 💡 except for the first three races you can choose between the first three cars listed.
Track choice will work the same way as last week by voting on the day.
Here are the first three cars as picked at random from the kudos prime website.

1/ Mazda bp falken rx7 03.👍👍👍
2/ 1989 Isuzu 4200r.👍👍👍

Welcome Jessie! My Aussie Matilda will send a FR, but I think she has another year before she can join the Geezers.

Stewy, I need to clarify the Viper - is it the '99 or the '02? Not that it matters but for some reason I have two of the 02 and none of the 99.

:cheers:Although I think that the most importante for all the geezers is to have fun racing in GT games, the excepcional work of geezer1791 (thank you) with the qualifying podium of 24 seasonals events justified a summary.
So considering the 1º with 10 points , 2º with 9 points.....and the 10º with 1point,the result is:
nordschleife51 205, jotafduarte 197, GTsail2 139, bobby2227 121, mots63 98, stewyripper 81, matilda1234 80, dlone47 66, pepper-malard AND daduce1947 59, Fanapryde 48, zona99 36, ema-nymton 24, SCClock 17, toppy-JOE 14, p-wiink 13, nosoks 12 , weelerturner 11, MastrGT AND RAYCELYNE 10, xposed2Play 6, macdog54 5, oldboy1943 AND IWannaB 4, qship 1.
My applause for all the geezers fast and slow participants. We are the best.:gtpflag:

The question I have is, "what is the total number of Geezers?". Not including Jessie the dog.

Thanks for reminding me to check the Geezer roles. The official number of members of the Geezer Club is 53.
I have sent out a few more invites (FR's) but have'nt received any response. We also have our Honorary Nurse-
@WhoosierGirl and Honorary Tuner - @SW__10.

Anyone is encouraged to invite any Geezers they know who are interested in our club to send me a FR.

The number in the "got GOLD" is the number of Geezers who participated in that Seasonal.

Yup, I was driving a non-Geezer car!

Disguised to prevent young whippersnappers from noticing my excessive track time at Suzuka!

I ran a 2:07.479 lap with my GTsail3 game
I ran a 2:10.069 lap with my GTsail2 game (my "normal" Geezer TT game)

See you on the tracks!

Recommended Career entertainment especially for Geezers...

The premise of this entertainment is to pit vastly different cars together, and choose an apparently totally unsuitable car for yourself.

The event is National A--Night Masters--Bathurst. Three laps, starting at dusk and the sun departs rapidly.

Self-imposed restrictions:-
  • Older than (say) mid 1970s
  • No more than (say) 100HP
  • No deliberate blocking (make room for passing)
Of course, Bathurst tends to reward cars which can fly down Conrod and roar up the Mountain. For this task, 100 horses seems like a joke. The other guys are all driving cars which are fast and can climb. That's why it's fun. Winning is not necessary, but fun is required.

The old Honda "S" models out of the 60s are great choices, with some of them unable to get to 100 HP no matter how brutally you modify them. The Lotus Elan (1962) is also good, as is the Toyota Sports 800 (1965)

I recommend the 1963 S500 which tops out at 87HP, and is terrific fun. Your results will vary according to the competition of course, but in my case, here are the highlights
  • Started in 10th place (last of course)
  • End of an uneventful lap 1, reached position 5
  • Gained the lead on Lap 2 at Forest's Elbow with about 4 minutes to go
  • That's when it got really exciting
  • After that, my position changed no fewer than 16 times in the remainder of the race!
  • Won by 0.031 seconds, so my position came close to changing 17 times
Have fun!

I've given this a try:tup:

For my first attempt I used the aforementioned 1963 Honda S500, running with all upgrades (after an oil change my Honda shows a PPvalue of 375, and was able to win with a margin of 0.110 seconds over a Subaru Impreza WRX STi '94.:nervous::)

I then purchased a "new" 1964 Honda S600 and threw all the go-fast parts I could at it (but skipped the oil change), and had a Bathurst monster that had a PPvalue of 374!!

My first race was against a Subaru Impreza WRX STi Version II '95, and I took the win with a comfortable margin of 0.119 seconds!:) The race was great fun on the final lap because I was able to re-pass five cars (going thru the corners at the top of the mountain) who had previously passed me earlier in the third lap on the long-straight heading to the mountain.:scared:

After some slight tuning modifications, I then re-entered the race and took down a mighty powerful Honda NSX '01 by 0.098 seconds!:):scared: The Honda NSX was leaning on me (or was I leaning on him?) as we came across the Finish Line.

Great fun squeezing the Honda S500/S600 past the AI in their late model cars.👍 Its narrow profile really helps finding the small spots for a pass!

See you on the Mountain!
