Very interesting read about the physics, thankyou for all the detailed information amar.

I have just two questions if you don't mind answering them. You said "GT5 is the most refined physics ever introduced in virtual world". I was wondering how close would the physics come to iRacing? (if you have played it) If iRacing was a 10, what would GT5 be in terms of physics?

Also, for us G25 clutch users, is "flat shifting" now possible?

Cheers

Just out of curiosity I got iRacing this last month and I have to say I was underwhelmed a little. True I only used the mx5 cup car and the legends cars but I was expecting more, it felt somewhere between GT Academy time trial and Prologue. Force feedback under brakng was good though.

@Amar212, you have the deepest and most gracious thanks of the GT Planet community for your contributions and the time you have taken to bring so many people here the kind of detailed, intelligent and reliable information we have been craving for so incredibly long. I hope, regardless of any negativity you may encounter anywhere on the forums towards GT5 and the discoveries you make as the bearer of good/bad news, you never forget how much your input and presence here is appreciated.
Maz

I couldnt have said it better. 👍
So, a very big Thank You Amar212 :)

Based on what you described regarding the physics, and the way the overexagerated effects like slipstream have been corrected from gt4, the game looks really promising.
Your description of the rally mode have boosted my expectations......now I'm looking forward to reading your input regarding the physics on a wet track, which was far from ideal on GT4.

Best regards,

Snypa

Amar, I have one question if you could clarify for me?

You compared the physics to Prologue and to the TT demo, but I'm having a hard time understanding exactly. Are you saying they are not as easy as Prologue, but not as hard as the TT Demo, so somewhere in-between?

Dear Amar,

Can you please throw up some negative comments of some sort? I know, it sounds crazy, but there are a few people who are now ignoring your updates because they're TOO positive.

Thanks!

I have a question that I do not think has been asked or tried... have you been able to import your car collection from both GT5p and GT PSP?

In 2P split screen mode, can you still race with the AI, or is it just 2 cars on the track?

bloody great question! i hope you can race with Ai aswel.
I'm guessing the only reason you couldn't on older systems was because of the limitations in performance in the ps2 and 1

Thats how I felt about the Demo even though I played with a controller. I remember I could not play the TT demo with a controller, but i felt the GT5 demo was better than GT5P by letting the driver communicate with the car, but a little easier than the TT by not being so harsh. Just as Amar explained its really hard to express the physics with word it feels so damn good. Cant wait to play with my G27!

Thanks again Amar, once I again I come into work and check the update thread. Only a few more days everyone.

"You have a constant idea what your car is doing and you just know when you did something wrong. It is very difficult to explain by words, but all variables that determines the feel of the car on particular part of the track are linked perfectly. You just know when you're going over the top, when the line you've taken will not be good or when you've applied the wrong steer. Also, greatest improvement is done in realms of racing cars, where Kazunori finally reached the levels of his only inspiration, Yu Suzuki's masterpiece F355 Challenge. Sense of speed through corners is now perfect. The insane level of grip and power of race cars has been finally toned down, and feeling of having an ultimate driving machine now comes from ability to steer perfectly, to have control of throttle and brakes, to feel the suspension and to have time to prepare for next maneuver. Refinement in this area is the most important to me, because in all previous GT games I had problems with insanity of race cars. Now everything is in place as it should be, and I love that aspect most."

This gave me goodbumps...
Seriously, this review is the best thing posted on the net all year long.
Next week, friends, next week!!!

Thanks for the detail review but one thing that is puzzling, I recently hooked up my G25 to my PS2 and played F355 Challenge(ps2 version) and it was such a joke compared to GT5P on terms of physics. I use to think that game was ridiculously hard on Dreamcast, but I could really see the flaws playing it on PS2 and the excessive amounts of grip allotted on corners.

Excellent write up so far amar, it is greatly appreciated as I'm sure you are aware by the comments in this thread 👍

Further to this do you receive the premium or standard car if both are available in GT5?

The 4th update was really deep amar, thanks again buddy.

I just have one quick and simple request/question: Can you say more about racing modifications?

Thanks for everything, Amar! I hope you can answer my question:
Is it possible to drive (standard) convertibles open, like in GT4, or are all convertibles closed like in GT for PSP?

I agree the physics in the TT demo provided more feedback with what the car was doing, but it felt like driving on ice, even with the tuned car. If the GT5 physics mix the great feedback with a little more grip like Prologue, (not completely though) then we have a winner. 👍

Sigh, I think I'll look away and discover the features for myself once I have the game in my excited hands :)

I just got one short question: Does the custom soundtracks support only MP3 or are you able to use other formats such as AAC?

Amar one question, do we have the ability to use our Garage cars(from GT Life\mode) in Arcade mode, like in GT2? This is a feature ive missed in GT4, the ability to drive our personalized tuned cars in Arcade mode.

Good afternoon, i was hoping for some more elaboration on the GT PSP integration into GT5. How does it work? and do any of the credits transfer over, or only the vehicles? thanks.

You could do this in GT4, infact I think you can do this in every GT?

Edit: I just realized, whether they were tuned in arcade mode is something I can't remember...

I don't remember being able to do that in GT4.
It's actually weird, one of these days I tried to play arcade thinking I could do it, only to realize I could not.
(Maybe I was confusing it with GT3)

No you can not access your personal garage cars...you can access their "original" models in Arcade, but not the ones that you 'own' and configure yourself as you could in GT2.

I'm not talking about quick-tune options, im talking about using cars that we tuned ourselves in GT mode (suspension, gear ratios, brake balance cosmetic parts etc).

The difference is in GT mode I can have my for instance:
Corolla Rally car set up for 1)Tarmac 2)Gravel 3)Snow\Ice

but in Arcade im forced to play with the "stock" configuration, or use the limited options of Top Speed and Hp\Weight +-.

I suggest that you try and re-read the lines and instead of taking them literally, put into context of the rest of Amar's physics description. Hint: he's not saying that the driving physics of F355 and GT5 are the same.
