^ the links in your sig are reversed. Just a heads up.

It all comes down to a good tune in order to preserve the tires. I'm going to have to tune better next time so that when I turn right, the front left wheel doesn't get destroyed. I had a tiny sliver of life left on that tire by the end of the race and had to enter turns a good 5mph below my normal pace or end up in the grass.

I have the sony mic but it doesn't stay in my ear. It's like those stupid earbuds that come with ipods. I need an ear-clip.

Hey warez is your avatar Senna's helmet? Awesome 👍 He was simply the best !

Oh for sure. Good to know there's someone else here that appreciates the Senna. There'll never be anything close.

It was a pretty bad night for me. At the start, I was passing a red (I think) car on the outside in turn 2 and he began to finish the turn wide as if we were not at a race start with cars all around. He smashed into me and the loss of traction eventually sent me into a spin, which took me off track and put me about 10 seconds behind the last car in the pack.

This, along with being taken out of a 45-minute practice race the other night on the last lap when I had fought from a 7th place start to a likely win (nothing taken away from SAM for a great drive- it's just that whoever can be in close second on the last lap before the long back straight at Trial Mountain is likely to win it), has made for a pretty negative experience thus far for me. Egg- I am not rescinding any forgiveness, just explaining why I'm not feeling so great about the series.

Any suggestions on how to get a better experience? Something I can do? Something others can do? Something everyone can do?

Thank you to those who cooperated when I was working through the pack on my way to claiming my award for the night. :embarrassed:

Only thing I can say given the race lengths is that everyone should be patient and give each other plenty of room at the start. As we saw tonight, tires play a big role in the outcome of the race, so keep that in mind as well.

EL_Z: I watched the replay after and it looked to me like you got into turn one a little hot, nipped the grass on the outside which caused the car to get a little squirmy. While you were trying to get it back in control, the car moved a bit closer to the pack where you were struck by another car sending you around.

That's just my perspective of it. I'll have to watch the replay again from a few angles to get a better picture of what happened.

I've had a like situation on the final turn within the last 4 laps of the race. I was literally rear ended causing my car to veer off outside in to the dirt. It was hard enough for me to stay on track with my car since my front tires were shot, but there CERTAINLY was a more appropriate option for the two drivers to pass me on the nice long straight ahead. Yes, it happened twice. So it makes me think that there's a possibility I did something wrong as well.

I always try to keep an eye on where the person is behind me as much as I can. If they have a nose, I give it to them. Better to lose a position than several positions. You can always get the spot back later.

A bad opening round for me too. I made the mistake of not writing down the setup I had come up with during the original qualifier to use as a baseline for the rest of the races, so I had to start over from scratch. And I made the mistake of giving it a bunch of toe-in thinking it was toe-out. Unfortunately I didn't figure that out until after the race. Pretty much killed the handling and left me way off the pace scratching my head wondering what the heck was going on. The car was pretty much junk from the start and then got really bad after a few laps so most of my race was spent trying to stay out of the way.:banghead:

I understand your frustration EL_Z, but the same run of luck could happen in a real race series as well.
My only suggestion from this race would maybe to have had more time for qualifying to start further up the grid; I'm not sure how much time you have to devote to the series though. I do know that you are fast enough to get onto the first 2 rows of the grid. I feel very safe running close with the lead group as I know they will give a little in order for everyone to make it through a corner, so I think a higher qualifying position would help.

I don't think there is any malicious driving going on, although I haven't watched the replay yet. There may just be a bit of inexperience from a racecraft point of view; knowing when and where to pass, and just a general awareness of the cars around you.

The thing we all need to remind ourselves though is that these are long races; so you're not going to win in the first corner, but you can certainly lose in the first corner!

Fun racing all! We had some "lols" for the first 10 laps until I caught a spin while in second and, I think, caused nethereal to spin too since he was probably running the same line I was. That draft into the first corner is serious.

Also my tires were toast by the end of the session with others reporting that they had 1/4-1/2. Something was done wrong on my part, for sure.

coconut, was fun keeping pace with you and the guy in front of you for the first dozen laps! all good about the spin, we both recovered and got right back into it without losing much time at all.
unfortunately, i overengineered my strategy :ouch: , went for a 2 pit stop strategy which was ultimately my undoing... after my 2nd, i came out of the pits in 9th :( managed to push hard on my last set of tires to finish in 5th (i think i remember passing you on the last lap ? you seemed to be limping on a bald set )

I think limping is a compliment, lol. I also received contact twice that led to a run off on the last corner. After that I just said screw it and I'll settle because after trying my best to avoid as much contact throughout the race, with the exception of the fun laps we had in the beginning, it simply was disheartening to me.

It's tough because a previous poster posted that after the paint trading they had in a previous practice discouraged them, I can now feel the same way after this race. It was quite obvious I was crawling through those corners so it escapes me how after 36 laps I'd get a tap from behind to put load on my already bald set of front tires right before the straight. If I recall, either of those situations could have been avoided and I don't want to put the blame on anyone else. I haven't seen the replay, but those were the thoughts going on in my head when it happened. If I view it today I might think differently, but that probably won't happen with one of my best friends heading back to Georgia after staying at my place for two weeks. 👍 So probably tomorrow.

Yeah, I spun several times on cold tires so I ended up a lap down behind our winner. I guess I got a chance to pass Coco to get my lap back during one of his blackouts, but I couldn't catch up enough to get back on the lead lap.

I don't know where you guys find the grip to turn in such great laps. I was running right about 1:00.mid consistently away from traffic, but I felt on edge in most turns, particularly the first and last. I'm impressed with the speed even in the B group.

I opened you the door thinking that was a car lapping me. And lose the only position I had :dunce:

Too conservative for my part. I ended without mistakes and with tyres in good shape, but at 1:02 1:03 lap times. But really don´t know how to push more, my qualification was middle 1:01.

Thumbs up for the lapping cars also. All very clean and patient.

Count with me for the race 2.

Word up guys,

The race was so fun, Iv watched the replay a few times now. I should have pitted around lap 27 and I think I would have been better off.

I switched shifts at work this week so Ill be on 2nd shift til Friday, 3:00pm - 12:00pm.

Anyone trying to practice late nights I'll see you then.

It's difficult to get a good awareness of the situation of other cars if you rely only in mirrors.

I use a trick of the people of Scana https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=153869

The map is on and fixed to car.
The scale of map is 1 or 2.

The detail is enough to control the cars around you.

A video.

Hops it helps

I had a great time last night and wanted to thank SamHain and 1600Turbo for the clean racing. I spent most of the race going back and forth with SamHain and I must say, this guy is a gentleman to share the track with.

Next round I will have to re-figure my settings to make sure my tire wear will hang in there a little longer, 1600Turbo had his setup dialed in as he drove past SamHain and I late in the race.

I'm also confirming my entry for race #2.

I don't have much experience at the Nurburgring Gran Prix Course so hopefully we'll get some fun groups practicing this week.

Thanks guys!

Bored at work. Hummm.

Here are two old photos from a practice session race at Trial Mountain showing a battle between myself, tt997, and SpyHunter:

This photo shows tt997 taking advantage of all the speed he had accumulated in our draft by utilizing a more entertaining racing line through turn 2.

I just liked the symmetry of this photo, nothing really that special.

Don't let anyone on your inside. Don't feel bad for the guy on the outside, even if he was in front.
