GTP United Sports Car Championship | Season 6 | Series Finished!Finished

Sooo, as I was putting the final touches on my rig, I go to grab my pedals and see that my dog has chewed up my power cord to my wheel. :( Hopefully the cord can get here Monday. I was so let down that I didnt even want to go and finish the rig.
I have learned the hard way numerous times with my puppy, but thankfully he's smart enough to stay away from the power cords. Otherwise he'd be toast! Settings on cars in GT6 are much different, I was disappointed though that lowering downforce doesn't help but usually hurts unless your at a very fast road course like Monza no chicane, or LeMans. Atleast its not as bad as Codemasters F1 where running 1, 1 wing works for every track including Monaco.

The G27 doesn't need a specific cable, I don't think... Check to see if you can find a cable with similar amperage and voltage until Monday...

Don't use the wrong cable, though, you don't want to overwhelm the motor - the expensive part of your wheel.

I used the power cord from my Driving Force Pro. It looks like it uses less power than the adapter for the G27 but the FFB still feels the same. I'm going to use that for now until the replacement cord comes in.

Driving in a rig really is something else. Right now I have it hooked up to my 73" tv. Its my main tv though and the rig takes up a lot of space. My wife will never let me keep it there. I have a corner in my basement that I think I'm going to take up. Plan is to wall mount a smaller tv (19" for now :( ) and have either a single sound bar or true surround sound going to it. Depends on whats cheaper on craigslist. :)

In case you guys are wondering what kind of rig I built its called the "SIMUL8R" racing cockpit. I chose this one mainly because the plans are free if you look around the internet. Cost me about $150 to make. The pipes were about $100 and I went to a junkyard to find my seat which costs $25. The seat came out of a 4th generation prelude. Throw in clamps, bolts and other misc items and you get to $150. I also went out and bought a miter saw for 90 bucks at Home Depot. Lowe's didnt have anything cheaper. It can be done with a regular hand saw. But I didnt trust myself making the straight cuts. Honestly if you just get it close to a straight cut it shouldnt matter. It will be hidden in the connections and everything will look flush.

Anyway, looking forward to putting more lap times down. Hope to see you guys on there soon.

You mean you're not using wood?

I have this table that I used to do/still do 1:18 scale Evos on, and will drill a piece of scrap wood on for the shifter... That is so much less expensive... I only need like four screws...

Nah, I used to play with a lap top desk. But it had wheels on it so it was not the sturdiest thing to play on.

I did contemplate using wood. But I wanted to save on weight and I like the bends of the PVC rather than the straight edges of the wood.

Speaking of screws. Mounting the brake pedals was by far the hardest thing for me to do. :dunce: I think in the future I'm going to go ahead and reverse mount the pedals.

After looking over this and thinking about it, I'm in:

PSN Name: GTP_RACECAR
GT6 Name: C.Jackson
Car: TBD

At the moment, I'm part time. Might change depending on what I decide to do.

Awesome!

And guys I don't need names anymore, since they changed it online. I'll adjust the OP.

Got ya down racecar.

So after some thinking, I've decided to go GT this season. I'm particularly interested in the Audi R8 Ultra and the BMW Z4 GT3. Will give both of those a drive and see which I like the most.

Awesome! Those are the two that interest me the most too.

Wheel should be here this week!

So after doing some laps, I've decided on the BMW. I just overall felt more comfortable in it whereas I just felt on edge all the time with the Audi.

I think I'll have enough money for all GT3 cars either by now or pretty soon. Just hit the 1.6 mil mark.

Not yet, I have tested the Audi, I will test the Nissan this afternoon and let you know shortly.
You know, It'd be really interesting to see you in the Prototype class teebz. But, as I say with anyone, choose what you'd be most comfortable in. :)

Guys do you think the GT3 cars in GT6 are too loose? A while back I asked the GT Academy guy who won the US GTA about it and he said the real GTR GT3 was a lot better planted to the ground and didn't snap out. I thought when I tried the Audi in GT6 it was a "handful."

I noticed with many cars in GT6 it seems they are very loose, like the X-Bow street needs substantial tuning to get it to "drive" and not just drift uncontrollably.

Well I must say that the SLS GT3 is much tamer than the Audi R8, but for me at least, it's not currently as fast. I need to dial it in a little more, but the SLS is a second off at Suzuka. It's EASILY better under braking, much more stable, but definitely needs to let the back hang loose a bit more while accelerating through corners. As FH said, the Audi really is a high risk, high reward... and for a controller guy, there's many a risk.

Gonna reset the tune on the Mercedes and focus on getting consistent times in the 2:02 or 2:01 mark, then tune the car a bit more to make it more comfortable for when I'm on the charge, so I can really attack and apply pressure where needed.

I'll also buy the Nissan GTR and the BMW Z4, to see how they run. Shame the R8 LMS-U doesn't have a re-paintable body, would happily grind for decent paint chips for it! Shame also that the Z4 GT3 doesn't have a base model, for the same reason.

The wheel is here!!!

I have quite a few things I have to do before I can play. But since I had a snowday today and have another tomorrow I can test!
