GTP WRS-Online Event 2 : FXXza Irresistibile! - February 5, 2014

What are you guys running for TC? I did my testing last night on 3, it seemed like a good compromise between frustration on fresh tires and saving-my-bacon on worn ones.
Call me crazy, but I'm one of those no electronic monster guys. I probably could be faster with them (like I was the last GT5 time trial), but most real-life series don't allow them.

Of course, I'm also so slow, I can get double-digit laps on pre-pit SS tires.

So after leaving the room when I attempt to re-join I get "entry was refused due to network incompatibility". Any ideas?

And that's after cache clear? Try quickly restart the game.

My console just died. Everything froze and my peripherals disconnected, wtf.

And now 3 times in a row ive had the triple beep :(

Sorry Speedy, i did try to get back. Closest i got was the connecting screen which also froze.

Try room B. We are getting started.

Wauw its really so funny when your ps3 freeses at 28/31laps but i was doing very crappy so its not so bad

I have to say the standard of driving on first 10 laps in room A was absolute quality the battle I had with oink and little Paul was brilliant and in the later stages with pilmat was even better on worn tyres.
31 laps of hard driving = heaven

Yet again a honour to drive I room A with such a high standard of driving

:D Top 5 :D

Cheers  to the four ahead of me...even the ones that ran out of gas. :P

:ouch:
I was just cruising last lap when I saw Napalm dried.
Man I will never get into PIT again pressing the gas button.
I had all my strategy set. When I got PIT on lap 17 and I knew the RH tyres would be enough to finish but then I've got the SS again and that amount of fuel that game offers is never enough.
Lesson learned!

Thank you all for the great time together and clean race.

Qualifying went well, qualified 7th when I was expecting to be last.

Start of the race was superb. Great racing between Oink, Skyline and myself for 4th place. Oink eventually pulled away, but WRP joined the battle.

On lap 9, coming into the first chicane, I accidentally tapped WRP round, so I had to wait for him. Once he was past, I was too eager on the throttle and span into the wall, it took me ages to get back in the right direction, which put me last.

To make matters worse, I pitted on lap 9 for RHs, only to find out that they didn't show up when I pitted. This meant I to do the remaining 22 laps on SS. I had to pit twice, for tyres which for me were 0.5 seconds a lap slower than RH.

Towards the end I grew more consistent, but still finished last, about 5 seconds behind 10th place.

Despite me awful finish, I thoroughly enjoyed the first few laps, and think I was in the right room, in terms of pace.

I think restarting this car from a stop was as hard as driving it in traffic.

Most impressive drive for me goes to IRT_tka_tha who started dead last and finished in 4th. He got by all three of us (Skyline, LittlePaul and myself) on that chicane on lap 9.

Yeah I spun on the entrance then calmly waited for every one to filter past before rejoining but pleased I pulled my way back to 6th after that

That chicane on lap 9 was like the parting of the Red Sea for me. I'm hoping not to get baulked or bumped before pitting, and then AHHHHHH, there was no one :)

Skyline and I had a nice dice near the end. A quality race in a tough combo 👍

I ruined my own race by pitting too early... it meant I came out in traffic, meaning I gained minimal time on Bart, and my tyres were in terrible condition towards the end of the race. Still managed second place though :)

Bit of advice for those competing in the NA and/or AU/NZ races: don't pit on lap 9.

Here are the "preliminary" EU results. Thanks to the stewards for entering the data so quickly this week. 👍

These are most likely going to be tweaked as there are a few legitimate incidents. Remember, if you are involved in an incident and have any doubt as to your fault in the matter, pull over and concede any positions gained to be sure and there will be no penalty. Mistakes are OK as long as you don't repeat them too often and as long as you never take advantage of them for your own gain. By the same token, if you get a jump at the start (and it's usually pretty obvious) lift and give back the gains and you won't be hearing from us.

---preliminary results deleted---see post #4 for updated results.

I did 16 laps on SSs in practice right before the race, and concluded that I could easily get through half of the race before pitting. I had done some laps on RHs yesterday so I knew what grip level to expect, but not how long they would last. My plan was to drive conservatively and get through at least 15 laps on SSs, maybe 1 more if possible to account for the lifespan of RHs, which I expected to be shorter.

I qualified 5th out of 9, lost 1 place in first chicane but later overtook a couple of cars crawling through the sand at Lesmo 1. For some reason I missed my braking point for Ascari, went wide into the sand, and had to wait for all cars to pass before rejoining. I was in last but got close at times, and only climbed up while people pitted. Although I tried to save the tires and drove quite consistently (ran wide a couple of times), my left rear went down to 6 after 15 laps and I did not dare to go for another lap, so I pitted for RHs.

I was given the choice of SHs or SSs. Knowing that I had done 15 laps on SSs already, I thought doing it again wouldn't be that hard. But after the first laps on the new tires, I lost the pace completely. Not necessarily because the grip was worse, but my feel for the grip limit and confidence in the tires went away. I gained a couple of places from people doing their second stop, but had no chance to keep it as I was getting tired, sweating and clinging to the wheel while struggling to keep the car on the track and get it to the finish line. My loss of concentration caused a couple of late brakings which put me off track. My unsmooth driving style didn't help keeping the tires alive, my rear left went down to 6 on the penultimate lap. And so I finished dead last, 30 seconds behind the car in front.

This race was certainly tough, and I'm impressed by those who managed to keep the pace up. It's a bit sad though that some were affected by the bug and couldn't change to RHs. Just as in practice, the first 15 laps wasn't too bad, but the second stint was absolutely a killer. But as always, it was a proper challenge and I'm looking forward to the next time!

Yah, this tire change bug is a real pain. Bart even went into settings in our room and changed some things before the race... it didn't help. He was host and wasn't impacted. I wasn't impacted. Others in the room were. I have no idea why some were and some weren't.

I think until this bug is fixed, we just have to stick to a single compound and that's the end of it because it really stinks to put in all the preparation on both lap technique and strategy and have a bug render it useless. For this week, it's too late to change anything. Although I believe even with a single compound the bug can force you to pick degraded tires so even that's not 100% sure, just less likely.

Next week we are doing sprint races without any pits or tire changes. So we won't have to worry about it for a bit. Maybe the bug will be fixed within two weeks (maybe pigs will learn to fly).

Well done to everyone, you all made the finish in a brutal race

I had some luck that Revoy and Matthew lost touch with me from the first chicane on. Then Matthew pitted early and I thought he was going for a 2 stopper or a long run on the hards. I was expecting him to be ahead of me when I pitted on lap 13, because in practice he had beaten my time on the hards by a tenth 👍 But Matthew ran into some traffic, and the gap was about the same.

From then on it was about keeping a consistent pace. I didn't push too hard on the first laps after the pitstops and I had a rythmn going.

Here are some pictures of this epic event :)

Tires we're the least of my concerns. Fuel was the issue. I knew I needed to pit for fuel but waited a lap to long and rolled into the Pitts. (Luckily!)
Batteries must be low on my slide ruler.
On lap 25 I knew I was trouble so I had to balance between conservation and keeping Hasslemoff and Allibubba behind me. To much pressure! Got a head ache.
Fuel consumption is a lot worse with little draft and being under pressure.
Next time: 10L more.
Race was a blast in any case. Live learn.
Thanks guys!

SS and RH is like driving 2 different cars.
