If anyone is interested and hasn't signed up last minute drop-ins are welcome. If you haven't run the attack format before it's a fun change of pace:

Attack Format:

• Run the first sprint race (N laps = ~15-20 mins) and record gaps at the finish.
• Run reverse grid for second sprint race, but there's a twist
  • The last place finisher starts on pole and takes off on green flag.
  • All other drivers hold on the grid until their individual release time.
  • Each driver's release time is based on the race one finish gap (actually gap to last place) multiplied by X% and rounded down to nearest second. There is a maximum gap of one minute or 3/4 of an average lap time.
  • The gap percent (X%) is dependent on the track and passing difficulty. If it's harder to pass and thus harder to make way through field then X is a lower number giving the faster drivers a bit more time to make their way through the field.
• The overall event winner is the driver with the lowest "total" time across both races including bonus deductions.
• Podium finishers in both sprint races get a "bonus time deduction": 1st=6 secs, 2nd=3 sec, 3rd=1 sec

It sounds more complicated than it actually is and the gap calculations and scoring is all automated in google docs. And remember these are all unofficial events so a good time to get your feet wet if you haven't raced with us before.

What are we thinking for lap counts today? I'd guess around 15? I'm assuming we probably want to eliminate the pit variable for this format so should be a number that everyone can safely make without a stop. It's not easy to pass on the track so I'd go for a gap percent at or under 50%.

I'm probably about 70% probable at this point so looking good. If people stick around after maybe we can run a few laps around Fuji as an informal practice for next week?

That all right, race 1 was worth the attendance alone. I hit a personal best 1'20.8 in qualifying which I was happy with. I killed the front tires over the first 12 laps before giving up the lead to Marc. My longest run in the car prior to the race was 6-7 laps.

Plus the test race at Fuji was pretty good practice too. Good information going into next week. Wish I could have hung in Bart's wake at least for a couple laps though. Didn't get any practice in the draft all by myself in second place the entire race.
