Can't make it this Saturday guys :indiff:, Good luck all 👍

Have cancelled my entry on the Google Doc thingy

Now that the weekly WRS race is over we're going to be devoting the lounges to practice for the marathon on Saturday. Look for a schedule tomorrow, but always feel free to jump in one of the lounges and set it up for any of the four events.

We'll posts some sort of schedule tomorrow where we'll set up a couple of the lounges for different races and you can join any or all of them throughout the day.

But until then just post here and jump in and set up the lounge if you want to practice. 👍

The main lounge (GTP_3D3Racing) is setup for "Mountaineering Online" in case any of you need a break from "9 Lives".

I only have time to run a few laps, but I'll leave the PS3 on and lounge open for an extended period of time in case anyone wants to practice. We'll switch the lounge over to "Decisions, Decisions" or another combo later tonight. If I'm not at my PS3 feel free to organize practice races... lap count is set to 8 which is about 15 minutes.

Your also free to practice another one of the marathon combos in the GTP_3D3_B lounge. You'll find the lounge specs above, but as in the new standard always set "grip reduction" to real.

EDIT:

OK, I've set down the gauntlet lap (1'45.752 1'45.497 1'45.143) and I'm taking a break for a while. Now come in and beat it. :sly: Not bad considering it's a few tenths hundredths from three tenths faster then the best lap time during the race (1'45.478 which was under low fuel and draft). Of course this was our first race and no D1 drivers showed up that day so I'm sure they'll be well into the 1'44 range (if not faster).

Even after just a few solo laps it's clear to see this is a really fun combo. I remember now why we chose this combo to launch 3D3 Racing.

Here's a good offline track lap write-up that applies for the most part online for those of you who didn't run the race the first time around. There are a few places I use 2nd instead of 3rd online:

Using 6/9 BB, No AS, ABS 1.

1st corner requires hard steering, and practically full throttle, ride up the mound on the left as tight as physically possible, and then exit with 2 wheels on the grass on the right, turning the wheel reasonably hard, then opening out once on tarmac, may require lifts along the way, seeing 168km/h+ down the short straight means you've nailed it (saw 170 once and a .9 T1)

2nd corner brake down to 2nd gear at 93-95km/h and proceed to avoid hitting all inside rumble strips/cobble stones for the remainder of the lap (except for the chicane 1 corner after T1) Even the most minor touches spells disaster for exit speed, or you will only reach a similar exit velocity to that of a non rumble strip contact effort, therefore you will suffer a net loss as your entry speed will be poor in this situation)

3rd corner stay in 3rd, brake tap, glide a bit, and power out at just under 100km/h. Very important to be smooth when exiting (in general), with the steering wheel, If you're too fast exiting, no amount of extra turning of the wheel will help the cause, open out the steering lock reasonably early as it's an FF car.

4th corner, brake down to 115km/h, glide momentarily, power out 110km/h, avoid the inside stuff.

5th corner, brake down to low 120's, the limit I think requires a slight lift as you enter the tunnel as close as possible to the wall, at around 112km/h, avoid loosing track position is key.

6th corner I don't brake but commence a glide at the appropriate moment, 113-115km/h depending on line, you can gamble by cutting it ultra fine with the wall and you receive this extra bit of grip for some reason when you land, but difficult to time.

7th corner, brake but don't immediately downshift to 2nd, wait half a second, then power out at around 91-92km/h, avoiding using too much exit rumble, and especially no grass, compromises line and exit speed.

8th corner, 3rd gear, position car significantly over to the left before the jump, not all the way, but enough so that all that is required is a momentary lift once you land, accelerating out in full throttle ideally, I lifted slightly exiting because of carrying too much speed and lost a bit of speed at the following right kink, you should see 154km/h If you have ideal speed.

@Art -- I moved the networking discussion posts to the GTP WRS-Online : General Discussion thread so as not to clutter the event thread. We can continue the discussion there until we get the networking thread up and running.

Checking firmware was the first thing I've done, have the newest one. Going to sleep anyway, it's past midnight here.
(maybe should we continue later via PM? Don't know if my issues are realted to the event enough to continue in thread)

EDIT: oh, nevermind, you posted when I was still writing.

Setting up lounge for KazSpa right now and will run for a couple hours. Rumors have Gravitron and EDK showing up at some point when they get too frustrated with "9 lives"... All are welcome -- assuming you have the DLC that included Spa that is.

EDIT:

I'm out, but Lucas and JTV are stilling running... not sure for how much longer. I couldn't match the high 2'11 practice laps we were doing in the fall at Spa, but I think that's because we weren't using real grip reduction then and we are now. I managed a single 2'12.161 but most of my better laps were 2'13 flat.

Using the tune from Vagabond offline (w/default ride height values 0/0 that seem to work fine online).

Note that you are NOT allowed to use a custom transmissions for the race... this will be detectable on replay via the sound and shift points. You must select the standard transmission and thus use the default gear ratios.

I can squeak 8 laps out of the tires, but that's pushing it... performance drops pretty significantly on 7th lap and 8th lap feels like ice.

I left soon after, as the Nurb was calling. :D

2'13.3 was my best lap, but most were 2'14's. I agree that the Real Grip setting is slowing us down, vs when we ran this last. The 800hp does nothing but spin the tires if you get 2 off in the green/grass areas.

Since I know why had I lags at Monza (explanation in General Discussion thread), I think I will run KazSpa and Laguna Seca (would somebody gift me that MR-S? Don't have one  ).

👍 The MR-S is a strange beast... you have to shift way down in the RPM range way before red line... Makes a huge difference in acceleration. Plus car is loose as can be. I think that was one of the only races where I turned on Actice Steering which is now banned. :scared:

I don't know if that original race was held before or after the tire wear change in one of the GT5 updates... but I ran a one stopper to steal the win from Dragon and CSL in the NA race... If it was before the tire wear update then there is no way a one stopper is going to be possible.

MR-S sent to GTP_Art. It has 3 tunes on it, with the B settings sheet selected at the moment, which is the one I used for online. I haven't driven it for a few months, so no guarantees. :D Probably want to change the oil and test it out before tomorrow's race.

I finally know my schedule for Sat and it outright stinks. I'll go amend my sign-ups.

Just signed up for every race except Spa. This will be my first 'real' online race and can't wait untill tomorrow.

Decided to join an endurance race on my main account just before I saw that I was added to the database and this race marathon was tomorrow.👎

Guess im going to be putting in the hours tonight to be able to gift my new account (GTP_JSOCCER9) the cars.

See you guys on the track

I processed your online registration so you should show up shortly in the registration images. Also the PSN friend requests are incoming from our private lounges which are used for all events.

You won't need the car for Mountaineering as it's provided for you since we're using the car from the recommended garage (no tuning).

The cars for Decisions are not "giftable" if I remember correctly. You'll have to recycle your used car garage until one of them shows up which won't be too bad considering there are 3 to choose from. In case you didn't already know just flip through 5 of the B license tests... you don't have to run the tests, just load each one and then hit the right arrow to go to the next. When 5 load you'll have a fresh set of cars in the UCD. Rinse and repeat until one of those cars shows up.

If you don't have the Toyota Superautobacs Apex MR-S '00 I can gift that to you unless you already have it in your non GTP account.

Welcome and see you tomorrow on track.

I have the Toyota on my main so thats not an issue and it gives me an insentive to finnish the 4.5 hours left in my tuskuba race.

One question, because i missed the practice sessions I was thinking of putting in laps in the offline practice section but then realized the physics differences. So just wondering how big of a difference the physics are.

Thanks

Pretty big differences in physics. Better to set up your own lounge to practice with the online physics.

Or if you want the possibility of company while doing practice feel free to jump in one of our lounges and set them up according to the specs in the detail posts above.

There may be a few practice sessions tonight... not 100% sure. I'll most likely be in the lounges later, but I'm west coast and may be a bit late for you. I usually don't get online until 8:00 PM Pacific. Not sure if anyone is going to run practice for an east coast time tonight. Just watch the thread in case.

We're also going to have the lounges open well before all of the races for pre-race practice.

Might join you actually seeing I still have 4.5 hours of racing to go before I can get one of the cars.

Ill keep an eye out for you on the online lobbies

Sent a FR to GTP_JSOCCER9. I'll be able to practice whatever after 9:30pm PT again tonight.

I can make:
- 1st race for sure, assuming I wake up in time
- 2nd race I may just watch the first 20min as a spectator (if there's room)
- 3rd race I might join just before 4pm PT (already practiced last night)
- 4th race I have no idea

I think my sign-ups reflect those realities. :dopey:

What will the lobby name be and at what track?

I'll be looking for you

All races are in GTP_3D3Racing... I sent you a friend request already so you should see that lounge after you accept the friend request and sign out/in of PSN. That tracks and cars are all listed above. I'm flexible which we practice... if nobody is on I may do some Decisions or Laguna as I haven't practiced those at all yet.

I, personally, would like to put the most time in at Laguna seeing that i havent raced the car/track combo yet.

Oddly enoguh i race the 207 online at grand valley not too long ago and for fun race the DTM cars at the ring' in arcade mode not too long ago also.

Just luck of the draw i guess.

Thanks for all of the information and I hope to see you guys later.

I've just jumped in the lobby for some quick practice.
I might just run through each event for 20-30 mins or so, or until other drivers join.

I'll be on in 30 mins I hope.

Still got an hour and 15 minutes untill i finnish this edurance race.👎

Hope to be on within 30 mins of ending the race.

I have 790hp on my GT-R N24 Schulze Motorsport '11, is that what you guys have? I'm just wondering if I put an upgrade on it that I shouldn't have.

Servers just kicked me out of the lounge and PSN. Hope they don't have problems tomorrow. :scared: I'm going to call it a night... Ate my pasta to energize for the marathon tomorrow. Remember to drink lots of water and don't go out too fast.

EDIT: First questions now useless because I found the answers. However, I have more.

The original event never (or rarely) talked about the aditional upgrades like tranny, suspension, and drivetrain and which of them can be used. I would like more specifics on that.

Thanks.

Note that the only changes from the original events as far as the event regulations are:

  1. Grip reduction will be set to real for all races
  2. Active steering and ASM aids are disabled (SRF was never allowed)
  3. Penalties are off
  4. Qualifying for all events will consist of an out lap and 2 hot laps only (to save time)
  5. For the Decisions, Decisions race we've added 5 laps (30) to make the race 1 hour.

We're going to run a standing grid start for Mountaineering. If the system messes up the grid order again we're going to do rolling starts for all the remaining events. A race steward will let drivers know before the race which start method we'll use.
