How long is the practice race?

The full 2.4 hours. Very very rough math gives me an estimated 72 - 74 laps for the GT1 class, and maybe around 6-8 laps lesser for the GT3 class.

You don't have to take part in the full 2.4 hour race as it's just a practice, you can pull out anytime.

But please do not just leave for being frustrated from how the race is going. I've gotton DC'd once and I didn't know a lot of important things about strategy and how the car feels at certain points in the race. Result really doesn't matter or how many times you spin, the data you can gather from these full practice races is way more important.

The OP was wrong but we fixed it last night...those on the fence about which class to run have about 14hrs from now to decide. I think that's just @Bleached and I at this point.

Search for "Finalizing Your Class" in the OP.

Congrats @Revoy for pole in GT3!

A Practice Room has opened up on this fine Friday afternoon to drive some laps in your McLaren.

Room ID 1472-4710-9866-6905-5172 Open  Closed due to another PD DC. Seriously, Sony needs to get involved.

Practised quite a few laps tonight. Pretty happy with my progress. I got under 2'01 for the first time, and by the end, I could consistently get 2'00.xxx for three hot laps in a row after a restart. My best was under 2'00.2, but could not come close again on a clean lap.

A really good time!
I hit 2.00.xxx a few times, but I believe I can't go any further with my DS3. This combo requires some technical gas breaking that is hard to emulate using buttons. Yeah I know... stick. I just don't feel comfortable with them.

All setups okay Deathstar?
I mean, DMZ and UPnP, cache clear, modem restart, etc.
Well, Brazil does not have best connection in world but I have no issues about being DCd.

These connection issues only happen with Gran Turismo. No other game has an issue and no other device has an issue. It's only GT. I looked into the DMZ thing but it required me to change some settings with the router. The last time I messed with the router settings I broke something and could not connect to the Internet until I had someone else fix it. I'm not doing that again. If there is an easier fix, I'm all ears. I am also not running a wire across my entire house; it's 2014, not 2000.

Well those are the two most highly recommended steps to take, so...?

At the risk of being called a PD apologist :dunce:, and ignoring the fact that other racing games have gotten it right :dunce::dunce:, I think racing games are pretty damn hard to code for online. The normal player-to-player "closing velocities" are very slow (passing someone after getting a draft), but you also have to allow for other real-world scenarios where the closing velocities are the other extreme...two guys playing "chicken" and swerving to miss at the last second, for example. An airplane game would have to deal with this as well, but aircraft are not nearly as agile as cars are, so predictive algorithms can allow them to handle latency between players.

FPShooters have very slow player-to-player closing velocities by comparison and are probably much easier to code for, but yet are probably the most common "other games" that people compare GT to.

I'm not a PD apologist, but I am a realist. They aren't going to address this and they haven't since GT5 was released. You have a problem with your connection somewhere either in your house or with your provider or between you and PSN. It's too bad the game is finicky, this may be a function of game requirements, sloppy programming, bad implementation, bad servers, whatever... but it is what it is. If you are not on the DMZ then you own part of the problem. If your router is so finicky that changing a setting takes down your net then maybe your anger should be with the manufacturer of that router or your internet provider. You are paying them a lot more than you are paying PD so direct some anger/attention/frustration their way.

PS> Please move any further connection issue discussion to the appropriate thread we have in this WRS-Online forum.

Going to have to remove myself from tonight's practice.just got the call I've been waiting 2 months for my 600bhp r33 is ready to be picked up so I'm heading out to the garage now and will be admiring her for the rest of the night .
Enjoy the practice guys

I read through that thread before and most of that stuff is over my head. :boggled: The thing that I don't get is this: if a normal, everyday gamer, like myself, needs to understand a lot of networking techniques and terminology in order to make a game behave as it should, then something is wrong how Sony has set up their online gaming, or at least with Gran Turismo and it's dedicated servers. :irked: If I wanted to go through the trials and tribulations of setting up and customizing my home network as much as I play games, then I would throw away my iMac and PS3 and fix my Alienware that has been sitting around for years because I had more money than brains when I purchased it. I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to computers, but networking is something that I could never really grasp.

What time is the Practice race?

WAS. it WAS at 20:00 GMT, meaning it started some time ago. You have to start reading the thread posts for yourself. I understand you are new here, but when you are continually asking questions about pretty obvious information posted on the same page as your question it is a bit frustrating.
