Grrr, starting to thing it might not be just Deathstar. :mischievous: Give me a minute guys need to restart the game.

Edit: Restarting the game crashed the PS3...hang on in there...

I hate to say "I'm glad it's not just me" but...I'm glad it's not just me. :D I was starting to get the impression that I am a complete idiot and I have no clue how to play games online, at least according to some of the information I was getting.

Back to the race...I got DC'd around lap 35 (surprise, surprise) but I wasn't in last?!?!?!? I was in 8th (out of 10). Not really sure what happened, but I'll take it. Tires started to get slick around lap 20 and took my first pit stop at lap 23. I accidentally filled up my tank, :dopey: but it was close to half full around lap 15. I'm sure I'll figure it out by tomorrow. I'll be popping back onto the track from time to time until then.

Bummed!!!! Wanted to practice today but I missed the start.......

Edit: tired of watching I am going to create my own room

Tried to get in here but it was closed.

Sorry @Allibubba99 we were even late starting by about 10 or 15 minutes. Seemed like there was some kinda mini room exlosion before we started, I think 3 of us got DC'd, having said that, you definitely seem to be getting the worse end of it Deathstar so it does make me think there is something not quite right on your end between you and the game.

Anyway, great practice everyone, good victories Jammy and Paul, across the board in GT1 our pace seems quite even actually (excluding Bart anyway) I think it will really come down to who get's the best race on the day. Learned a lot from that so thanks for coming along, will see you for support races tomorrow.

That was a very fun, but hard practice race. It was worth doing though, as now I have my strategy nailed down. Now if I could only get faster. Paul thanks for putting that together.

@dphino that was a nice long battle we had in the first stint. It made the race a lot more interesting, having the back and forth we had.

Great...now I feel like a complete idiot again. :(

Question: I was reading the OP again about the Support Races and it says something about a Pit Pause. For some reason I thought that was for the Driver Change during the Enduro and not for the short races the day before. Could someone please explain what the Support Race pause is for and the reasoning behind it?

...I am still in that room. If anyone wants to practice, it's still open.

First off...why is your text linked to Al's profile?

Second, pit pause: The main point of the pause, is because unlike the Enduro, which is time based (not lap based), the Support races are done like normal weekly races, with a lap count. Because the 2 classes are quite different in speed, it would mean that the GT1 class would finish, the GT3 would never even get close. So with the pit pause differential (2 minutes for GT1, 1 minute for GT3) and the extra formation lap the GT3 class gets, it should mean that the 2 classes finish at almost exactly the same time.

Make sense?

It was a bad copy/paste I guess. Fixed it.

Kind of, yes. But wouldn't the extra formation lap and the GT1 pause be the thing to equal the classes? Wouldn't the pause for GT3 defeat the purpose by giving more time to the GT1 cars?

My fingers... I give my word:
This is my first and last enduro with DS3. Next stop will be a DFGT or a G27.
Any comments/tips are welcome.

Yes, there was 2 choices. A 1 minute pause for GT1, and no pause for GT3. Could work, but also means all of GT3 just do a no stop and it's not very interesting ;) Option 2, which is what we chose, is 2 minutes with GT1 and 1 minute on GT3. All it means is a bit more strategy involved, and also good practice for the 5 minute driver change in the enduro.

Edit: I understand you aren't doing the enduro, but for those that are, it is a good little practice.

Get a comfortable chair/seat in a room that is out of the way from anyone else in the house. I have a DFGT with a stand, but no good place to set it up to play. I occasionally use it, but I need to set it up on the couch (sofa), put a ton of pillow behind my back (I have a bad back), use a neck pillow for head support, move the coffee (cocktail) table out of the way, move the PS3 onto the floor because the cords are not long enough, and plan it out when no one is home so I don't disturb anyone.

If you can take all these into account, you have yourself a nice situation.

"Why on Earth would you have a wheel with a stand if you never use it?" you ask? Well, I'm the winner of the Nissan/GTP/GTAcademy Twitter contest winner (toot, toot) so it was free. Don't worry, I used the crap out of it when I first got it, but I hurt my back again a while ago and it is just too much to use on a regular basis. That and it ticks my wife off when she gets home from work with the living room in disarray.

@GTP_DeathStar Are you sure your car is up to specs? You seemed really slow compared to the other GT3 cars.

Wow. That hurt. Yes, the numbers all match according to the OP. I'm just slow. Thanks for making me feel like 🤬. I know it was not your intention to be hurtful, but that cut deep. I guess it was only a matter of time before someone said something like that to me.

...it's your tune I'm using, BTW.

I didn't saw Rear Wings on @GTP_DeathStar's car.

No, it doesn't. However, the non-wing aftermarket spoiler (the one that turns the color coded one black) gives the car the same amount of downforce. I checked it out when I saw other people with the wing during practice in the past.

I think the one that moves up and down is a lot cooler than that "pull me over" wing.

Sorry man I was just trying to make sure you didn't have wrong specs causing that. You should put a wing on the car and look at some of the faster guys in GT3 see what lines they are using and where they are braking etc. Also don't slow down for GT1 cars just stick to your line and we'll get by you when we can. It's the responsibility of the overtaking driver to keep it clean so as long as you're not blocking people just stick to your line even through maggots and becketts.

I'll test it with a wing now, but the numbers are all the same; and according to the programming, that is all that really matters, right?

I don't ever remember purposefully slowing down for the GT1 cars. It may just seem like that because I'm Darth Slow. Sure, I got out of the way, but I don't recall hitting the brakes or anything. There were a few times I hit the rumbles and got a little squirrelly when the GT1 guys were approaching. I even got slammed into once (not enough to spin me out) by a passing car. It was a blue car, but I can't remember who it was.

The guy who hit you was @mohitraina91 :P at least i'm pretty sure I didn't hit anyone. But the wing shouldn't make a difference which is actually stupid because the other wings have way more surface area but anyway.

Guilty :guilty:. I saw you go very deep into the first corner, and I made the mistake of looking at your car instead of the apex. You dropped your speed to make it into the first corner and I kept watching you instead of reacting. Lucky for both of us you didn't lose too much time.

The part I've marked as bold, you shouldn't be doing. You shouldn't be getting out of the way. I felt bad passing you each time because you actively made my job easier and it cost you significant time every time. That's just one part though, the bigger issue is safety.

When I come to pass you, you should be holding the racing line. It's the GT1 car's responsibility to go around. Even if you're holding me up for 3-4 corners, you should keep doing what you normally do. Each time I went to pass you I was unsure what you were going to do, and if we both move the same way we'll crash. If a GT1 car takes you out, it's their fault. If however they take you out because you moved off the racing line to give them room, it's your fault. Remember we're approaching you at a very high speed and often don't have time to react to sudden movements.

Your whole job when it comes to multi class racing as a GT3 driver is to be predictable. Hold the racing line and let the GT1 cars worry about passing you.

@Daniel Pinho and @serfon, please read what I've posted above. I saw a little bit of what I've written above by you two. You guys may think it's helping, but it actually does more harm to both sets of classes.

We do have the one hour support races tomorrow where you can practice this again. If you guys have saved the replay, check out how Hasslemoff and Patrick did it.

I've been told to get out of the way of passing cars when being lapped. I've even seen people get in trouble for not getting out of the way enough. I'm getting conflicting information. Which is it?

What Gooners (@mohitraina91) said. When the faster class passes you it's not considered "being lapped". If the leaders of GT3 are about to lap you, that's when you let them by (blue flag rules).

 OK...let me get this straight. Half of the cars (GT1) I don't let by, but I don't block either. The other half of the cars (GT3) I need to let by me to pass. :indiff: Because of my pace/speed, both classes will be passing/lapping me; so you can see how this will be confusing. :guilty: What do I do if there are four cars coming to pass me, two are GT1 and two are GT3? Do I just keep racing, without blocking, even though I won't be letting the GT3 cars pass easily?

:sly: This can all be resolved if I am allowed to use a few HP upgrades. (kidding)

Welcome to the chaos of multi-class racing. There won't be packs of GT3 and GT1 cars. The GT3 cars will get passed by the GT1 fairly quickly by design, it's not like they are locked in long battles. There are points in the race that might be chaotic, but that's what multi-class racing is about.

As WRP said, it can get a bit crazy sometimes. In short, if you are getting genuinely lapped by a GT3 car, you should allow them through. If this happens to be at the same time as a GT1 car is also passing you, just make it predictable, don't swerve off line, just let off the throttle slightly, and hold your line. A lapping GT3 car will know they are lapping you and should be aware of the passing GT1 car too, so should be cautious, and pass you at an opportune and safe moment.

In the case of the gt1 guys just stick to your line there cars have a advantage in speed and they will pass you at a safe opportunity minimising time lost to both you and themselves,

In the case of gt1 & gt3 cars in a pack the same applys stick to your line so it's easier for everyone to predict what you will do and they will pass you as quickly and as safely as they can.

The main thing is don't panic and enjoy the race after all it's ment to be fun

In this case the GT1 is very likely to just follow the GT3 car so if you stay where you are there is no problem.

Thanks.

...and I tested the bigger wing. No difference in lap times or car control. Going back to the smaller one because it is WAAAAY cooler looking. :D Someone owes me 7000 credits.

Is there a steward available to watch me pseudo-qualify (or not :scared:) for GT1? I'm in a friends only room, and most, if not all, stewards are on my FL.

Thanks.

I just watched some laps of yours on replay. Here are some observations that should help you go faster.

1. Don't redline the gears, shift much quicker. Between 7 and 8000 rpm.
2. For some of the faster corners you are going down to a gear that is too low. If in doubt stay in higher gear, it will generally be faster in this car and it is easier to control.
3. It is generally better to brake early to get on gas earlier. This is especially true, where there is a long straight after the corner.
