You've been given so much time to submit your lap time (Aug 09 2008), so please don't use time zones as an excuse for your failure to send me your submission in time.

Wow, that was fairly serious response to my Homeresque Doh statement . I was not really concerned as I only put in about 30 laps and did not like my removed by moderator time. I will try submitting next time maybe.

edit: sorry, i did'nt think that my horrible x'ed out time really counted as it was several seconds out of the top 100 times and was not even submitted.

"The lap times for the qualifier will never be published, only the divisions placements. The purpose of this is to keep as much of the qualifier a secret for those who wish to join he GTP_Registry at a later date."

Reading the rules FTW.

It will be funny if the next game update adds private events to make official GTP racing possible but changes the handing so much that all the times sent in will become irrelevant compared to the times then possible.

True, I did mess up on the Time zone issue. The lap time posting an x'ed out bs time that was no where near the online "available to be viewed by anyone" top 100 times, is just silly.

what happens if your lap time was placed first in division 3?

Let me tell you; Everyone will then know the cut off time between division 3 and division 2. Still silly?

I think it's silly that you should need to do this but with 300-odd competitors involved I'm afraid my faith in humanity doesn't quite stretch to expecting everyone to be honest.

I do wonder what's to be gained from lying about a lap time, since it'll be pretty obvious that you're punching above your weight once the private races start up but I've no doubt some people will do it anyway.

Rules are rules, people, play by them or sling yer hook!

 This is a very good point - why anybody would want to be in a higher division than they can rightly handle is beyond me :nervous:

Actually scratch that, it works the opposite way - eg. I make up a time that puts me in the division below where I should be and I look like the king for a couple of races before I get promoted.

If it wasn't pretty much guaranteed I'll be in the bottom division I might actually consider this :mischievous:

It's not about people lying, it's about letting the drivers decide their own limit instead of being spurred on by having prior knowledge of the cut off points. We've already discussed that this was not possible for the higher division, and it was therefore something we had live with. This was all caused by the way the replays were saved. Remember, this qualifier wasn't our first option.

I was fighting with that same point. I wanted to put a ton of hours into my lap over the last few weeks. Eventually, I didn't. I sat down one time, did a very nice one, and forever haven't been able to mirror it. It's not beyond my everyday capability, and when I watch the replay I can see plenty of points where I could have done better, but I am very comfortable with competition which would be matched to that lap.

I think, at this point, it is much much much better to do just that. To have put a lap in that makes you comfortable, but that requires concentration to match. I'm not sure how the ranks will change from now, whether there will be more TT's or just based on live racing.

Sure, everyone wants to do the best they can, but in a live racing settings, you can't allow yourself the same level of concentration and patience that would would if you were to work on your qualifier lap for days and days.

I had big problems with wheel (at 200 and 900 DFP) or controller, although its been ages since I used the controller. I like my steering ratio very precise, and every tune I have has Max Turning Angle at max - which isn't a tuning advantage, just more of a steering style preference. Such is life.

Exactly why I didn't put in a thousand laps trying for that "perfect" one. That might have put me in Division 4 and I would get my arse kicked. :nervous:

Thats what I'm worried about, i outdid myself in qualifying. Posted a great time (for me), and hardly got close to it since. Its squeaky clean.. but a bit of a fluke.
Maybe they'll let me drive the safety car ?

I remember it wasn't. And I understand your "secrecy" rule. But let me tell you this, the reason I submitted my poor laptime (shortly after returning from holidays and close to the deadline, because I was lazy) became ultimately from watching GTRP-Struppi's (sp?) replay, available because he is in the top ten. I just couldn't believe how smoothly he made his amazing laptime. That alone made me realize, without the shadow of a doubt "ok, that's it, I'm just not skilled enough to do this". And submitted.

It's no shame to aknowledge you're just not as skilled as others. The point of this all is to have fun, not to show off.

I think you missed the point, the time that was changed by a moderator was post as for example 1:23.xxx = x'ed out. On top of that, it was not submitted so the point is moot.

No discussion of lap times is permitted. What is hard to grasp about that?

The GTP_Registry is now up to date, 👍 and all members who didn't submit a qualifying lap time have been removed. However, those who wish to join up again at a later date are free to do so once the registration process start up again.

If you don't see your GTP_Tag in the registry and you submitted a qualifying lap time to me, then I'm afraid there was most likely be a problem with your submission. the type problems will range from:

  • Submitted a qualifying lap time, but not registered as a GTP_Tagged member
  • Submitted a request to be added to the registry after the deadline
  • Submitted a qualifying lap time after the qualifying deadline
  • Submitted a request to be added to the registry to the wrong place (my user profile / my PS3 PSN ID account!!!!!!)
  • Submitted a qualiyfying lap to the wrong place (my user profile / my PS3 PSN ID account!!!!!)

Oh, mr_VOLCANO, I'm aware of your problem and I will deal with it.

Although I've been dealing with many incorrect PM'S as I've been getting them during the last few weeks, I still have 20+ incorrect or late PM's still sitting in the 'waiting to be processed' folder. I will deal with these as soon as I can.

Still working on the divisions. 👍

Is there any place on the site where we can learn about the future creation of private rooms for the divisions? I still have no idea how its going to work. Will just just be an :xx system? Sphinx, don't bother to answer it, you have plenty on your plate.

A wave of thanks to Jerry for putting this up (and putting up with everyone) ! :)

I dont think so, as nobody knows how the private rooms will work yet. I think when they are made, somebody will set a room up and invite / password it until everyone is in. Then the race begins!?

well actually the first events that are going to be based on these stats will be just like you stated because not all of us are good FR; MR; RR drivers.
so Unless the events are ONLY ABOUT the classes that were mentioned above and were evaluated, then Sphinx will have allot of work to do after the first few events that are FF or 4WD/AWD

I smell shady logistics.
