FWIW I now do what Kevin suggests for turn 1, however I slam it into 3rd and bounce the limiter at 110mph and use the engine to break me out wide for turn 2, I do this just shy of the apex for turn 1, I am then free to concentrate only on line and position and without having to concern myself with a gear change, I get the exit of turn 2 correct more often using this approach. I also try to run wide, right out to the outer rumbles so that I can straight line the exit and not risk the grass on the left - 2 wheels on that grass and you are struggling for line to take the tunnel and will likely never get it back.

Cicua/Simon is right about the lap I feel, turns 2 and 4 (?) and the final turn are the ones that count.

No more for me today, I must have done 100 laps before lunch while I had peace and quiet ;)

A few more tomorrow after a large bacon buttie. 👍

Have a good night tonight gentlemen, wherever you are and whatever you're doing.... happy new year

At the risk of being passed, here's my turn 1 writeup. The tunnel turn is much less consistent for me, and I'm convinced that's where I'm losing the majority of my T1 time, my turn 1/2 is pretty solid.

Coming down the front straight, make sure you do a blip into 5th, even if it's just for a moment. The downshift into 4th helps with weight transfer and getting the car pointed.

I've tried kicking the car up onto the rumbles on the right hand side of the track, but that's not necessary to pull this off, and might actually be slower that just being on the very outside of the tarmac.

Just after those rumbles start, downshift into 4th while braking VERY lightly, and aim for the first apex. As you come to the apex, brake more, and downshift to 3rd, and let the car carry all the way out to the right rumbles. All of that should be one smooth, relatively fluid motion, the car should make it's way out there smoothly and on it's own, don't force it.

The shift into 3rd BEFORE hitting the rumble is essential, in my mind. It causes the car to become unsettled when it hits that rumble, and if you aim for the second apex with some more aggressive braking right then and there, it will rotate the car for you and take some of the needed braking out of the equation.

Try your best to get the car to that second apex rumble, but the main thing is to be far enough over that your momentum as you mash it back to full throttle doesn't carry you out into the grass on the right.

You'll feel it when you get it right, but the main thing is to be smooth, brake lightly, and use the gears to help the car rotate.
Very nice write-up Kevin.👍
Yours too Matt.👍

T2: 20.646
Almost there..

I assume you meant T2 ;)

That is an insane first sector - I've gone under 25 seconds 3 times in ~ 200 laps!
Double thanks.👍

Best is 24.556.. so there's still time left to find. I do the same as Kevin and you through turn 1 but I use the grass on entry to the tunnel to take a wider entry and make the car slide a bit.. It's very inconsistent though.

T1: Insane split
T2: 20.646

Uau Wes , is that a alien light that i see :sly:

And what´s with all the D2 division? Annual meeting :dopey:

Fantastic splits by everyone 👍

I see that i must joint the .5 club so new splits

T1: 24.871
T2: 20.706

Happy new year to all

Wizardry teachings.

Thanks for that Kevin 👍 I was never hitting that wide right rumbles after the 1st apex before, which set me up all wrong for the 2nd apex.

Now to try and get my T2 down.

Who do I have to bribe to get my splits to update? ;)

Gonna repeat those just in case.

T1: 25.015
T2: 20.795

When I get an obvious dirty fastest lap, I make sure I don't finish in front of my ghost so it doesn't register it as the fastest lap.
Even if this means giving up speed on the main straight towards the finish.

I turn my ghost off the second I see him. I also have the track map turned off. I find myself getting distracted trying to "chase" myself, so instead I just try to look for better lines.

edit: Just re-submitted my old time that I have a valid video for.

T2: 21.070

Man I just can't figure out this asphalt junk

T1: 25.897
T2: 20.985

I sure hope that running iRacing and SCCA in my Miata this next year will fill in the blanks for me because even though the game is so much cooler then iRacings bland graphics, I must be on another planet when it comes to figuring out how to run around these courses. It's like swimming in sludge to me, all I can ever do is small baby steps and never any revelations as to where I'm so far off.

I sure hope that some kind of enlightenment occurs this next year because I just have to apply some reality to this hobby. Watching Kevin run at Laguna has just gotten into my head and I have to make sense of how it all fits together. This stuff is so much fun and these weeklies keep me continuously interested as I can’t get away from it for very long without giving each weeks event a go. As always keep up the great work modds your efforts to make this one of the greatest places to hang out at is much appreciated by Little and my self as I’m submitting w/ these splits. Good luck to everyone and have a Great 2012 👍

I thought I was done, then decided to give it another shot. I had a smoother lap, well within the boundaries. Much happier with this one.

Top of D2 is scary close.

I had another go, bad session and very frustrating.
Barely went into 24s at T1, gave up after 30 minutes.
Will have a go tomorrow...

Went out and got something better this time by lowering the aggression level a bit more.

Nice splits Jake!!! 👍

Now all you gotta do is clean up that first sector where you're losing two tenths!! :sly:

24.950
20.725

About .1 left for me at this point. I know that's not near enough but I don't see much more than that.

Thought I was moving up in d2, not anymore. Still having fun though.

Another fun combo.👍 Squeezed a little more.

Lefty, I didn't know you did iRacing. I agree the physics are from enjoyable. The new tire model is an improvment, depending on which car your using. I'm waiting for the Dalara Indy Car to get the new tire model. It's the only car I like to drive in iRacing.

A bit late to the party, but here are some more splits to clog up the D2 leaderboard:
T1: 25.025
T2: 20.754

24.815
20.771

Fastest first sector, second fastest second sector , oh and a POO third sector :ouch:

Need another 0.15 - 0.20 and I'll be happy

Had another crack at this, quite a long session of 1 hour produced these splits:

T1: 24.605
T2: 20.639

Not bad but still looking for around 2 tenths.

I've never had to deliberate so long about who I'm going to quote, but I'll go for my bro, Jon (close 2nd was Kevin's writeup:tup: and Matt's bacon buttie post:tup:). Crazy nice splits! I hope you can fix up the POO, as that was probably my biggest revelation last night...T3's here can all FEEL similar, but can easily be 0.3+ apart in time difference.

Happy New Years all, from one of the very few timezones who haven't hit midnight yet!

:scared: I learned a new verb, seriously had to check it in online dictionary. You may be surprised how this board helps me improving my english.

D2 pushed so close to D1 with this combo, but white paint is lighter than red :D
Just hit the top of D2 yesterday... for minutes, until Energizer post, and today I found myself .... 8th? Very hard battle here, and also w-g-e and Aussienicko separated by 1 thousendth

Best wishes for the new year to all WRS racers

First session of the New Year.

I tried for a while to get Vagabond's first corner method to work but couldn't pull it off. My preferred method is more like Millross'. If I can get close to my best in all sectors there's about .3xx to come, but realistically this could be my best.
