Not a good start, but it's due to my lack of confidence with the track more than anything else.

40.293
21.293

Improvement in all three sectors, but none of the sectors on this lap are my personal best so still some good gains to be had.

39.423
20.666

Cleaned up the final sector a lot, but still work to do. It will have to wait for another night though. It's nice to run a time trial for a change. 👍

Ran some laps with this last night. No splits to report at the moment (although I'm off the pace in sector 1 -will watch Chris' video tonight). Not a big fan of the track, but that's probably because I'm not very good at the roundabout section.

Have to say though, the car is a real corker and it's nice to be able to run a partially tuned car rather than stock or maxed out. Nice job Tim 👍

Thanks for the video Chris! As ever, I'm not doing anything wrong, just not as fast or on the wrong line. I don't get the corner entry rotation as much either, might need to try different brake balance and abs. 👍

Can't get the hang of this yet, may come back to it later in the week, definitely prefer weeks where we are using arcade mode :boggled:

First try, still finding it hard to figure out the middle sector, how's everyone approaching that ring?

No worries guys. :) Hope its some use.

Virtually flat out in 5th - I reckon its possible fully flat on the right line. Exit from sector 1 is important too for the entry.

A little step forward:

39.060
20.566

I can definitely see at least another tenth in sector 1 - most laps now I'm up about a tenth and then lose it again in that fast left/right before the split marker. Short shift from 1st to 2nd exiting the square hairpin helps with traction on exit and so better speed for the uphill bit.

39.531
20.704

Had a .100 at the split but totally shafted sector 3. Still only a t1 best of mid 4s, can't seem do the tight right hander very well. Lost a tenth there on this lap. T2 and T3 pretty decent

Edit

39.452
20.654

Lost a bit in t3. Got another three tenths to find. Here tenths! Here boy!

For the silly circle part, dive to inside and hold 103-105 (an exercise in coasting and part throttle -if the outside tyre lights up, you're stuffed), then hold the inside and accelerate, you will naturally start to run wide. Find the sweet spot before getting too wide and straight line the exit taking the jump at 127,128 perhaps 129 mph. Don't run over the inside or outside red at all.

The turn after the jump is one of my favourite corners! :)

I just treat the Spiral Bridge as a double apex corner. I imagine the apexes being in the same spot on the map. After hitting the apex, I went to the outside lane and stood there until the second apex came, and then I hit that. You should go to the outside before the jump. It helped to get me these splits:

21.016

👍 I'm holding minimum 104mph but I'm heading in full throttle and using the understeer on entry to scrub off speed, so I am lighting up the left front as my speed drops. Hitting the jump at 128mph.

Miniscule improvement:

Small improvement, but I'll take anything I can get.
40.227

a 5 tenths improvement in T1, but a loss in T2 with a gain in the OT! :sly:

Chipping away.. progress is progress. 👍 A session is productive if you get even the smallest improvement. If I run for an hour and make no gains, then I call it a day and come back the next.

Tim mate, I have to say I am enjoying this far more than I anticipated and its all down to this wonderful car. 👍 And thank you so much for not ruining its lovely exhaust note.

Another small step:

39.013
20.525

Seen my first 38 1st sector now - 38.937, so chasing that down. :)

I was pleasantly surprised to find this was a SNAIL car from a couple of weeks ago, so it sits nicely broken in :) Threw on the mods and had a quick twirl (couldn't bring myself to have another go at Suzuka...)

39.964
21.111

Still tons of time out there, but I like the track and the car seems like it will be good fun for longer/several stints 👍

Announcement: Change of Specs for this event effective immediately.

I apologize for this, but it's been brought to the admins attention that there is a loophole available in the current car regulations for this event which necessitates a change to the car regulations.

Background: With the removal of a few parts (ECU Upgrade and Catalytic Converter) along with the addition of all three engine stage upgrades the HUD can be made to look identical to the current specs, but the car with those altered specs has much more power. Also, the supercharger was thought to be detectable by HUD and audio, but that turns out not to be the case. As a result and considering we are early in the cycle of this competition, the admins have decided the best course of action is to immediately change the car specifications and thus maintain the integrity of the competition.

Here are the changes that will be required from the old specs:
  1. Remove Engine ECU Upgrade (revert to Standard ECU)
  2. Remove Catalytic Converter: Sports (revert to Catalytic Converter: Standard)
  3. Add Supercharger

The end result will be a car with 410 HP instead of 399 HP. The car should be at 514PP after the change. The tachometer will now show the red line at exactly 7500 RPM whereas the previous regulations resulted in the red line at 7800 RPM.

I have driven the car for about a dozen laps with the new specs and it drives *very* similar. Hopefully, the work that many of you have put in already to work on your lines will translate to this new setup. I would say the only area of track that I noticed any meaningful difference was the roundabout where 6th gear comes into play now (whereas before I didn't shift into 6th until the exit to the jump). There may be a slight tranny tweak necessary to optimize that part of the track (or other) with the new power curve, but I believe the basic tranny and the rest of the setup should work well pretty much as is.

We will be deleting all splits currently on the leaderboard. It's likely you'll be able to go faster with the new setup anyway, but we'll clear all existing splits to reset the event. All new splits posted in the thread should be the result of laps done using the updated specs.

Again, I apologize for this mess up which is completely my responsibility and thank Viper for pointing out the loophole while we still had time to correct it. Hopefully those of you who have already invested time in the car can leverage your track/line knowledge with the new setup and will be right back where you were in a short period of time. Be assured that it's just as fun to drive, sounds the same and handles pretty much identical to the previous setup.

Good luck.

NOTE: The OP has been updated as follows:

In that case here are the splits with new specs to get the action going again:

39.432
20.639

Pretty much exactly where I left off, knocking on the door to 1 minute.

Oh, well that changes things a bit! I'll give it a go tomorrow.

DOH! Well if you say the car handles similar to the old configuration and the fact I still wasn't up to full power makes me think the last 3 hours wasn't a total waist! Great job again WRS for working so hard and keeping things fair! Look forward to trying out the new specs tomorrow after Bob gets me up to full power.

Al

My splits anyway...

40.060
21.040

Hell, it don't matter anyway!! I am having loads of fun running this TT. 👍:)

Guess I'll go make those changes now so I don't forget later.

Edit: First thing I noticed is the gears need to be slightly adjusted for the changes made.

Edit2:

While I'm sure we all appreciate Viper's attention to detail, a car running more power would've had a steeper acceleration curve, clearly verifiable in the data logger when compared to a car running the correct specs. Not that it matters now...

Anyway, here's a few shots while we wait for more splits :sly:

Fair point Chris but you *could* get someone who didnt run the combo verifying a single replay with no frame of reference in terms of acceleration curve. Shame to lose splits but ill run again to get some good ones back ;)

True enough... I'm sure Tim knows what's best to keep it fair anyway, I was just sounding off. :sly:
Nice gold rims Chris, Does changing rims have much of an effect on the car?
Thanks :) No difference in performance that I can tell. I can't remember which car it was now but a while back I did back-to-back tests with stock vs custom rims and it had no noticeable effect. Just aesthetics - gotta love that gold chrome 👍

True true, I always go with red rims

It would have been verifiable in the data logger if someone used so much extra power, but I think it would have been difficult to detect if someone used the extra power in combination with the Power Limiter.
