Since it looks like we are on the verge of running 2 lounges we were asked about the point system or point implications of running two rooms. This series is meant to simulate the real-F1 championship as close as possible within GT5's limits, but obviously the real life GP is not restricted to 15/16 cars on track so we have to account for that limitation.

The OLR team has decided to stick to the real life point system in that only the top 10 finishers are awarded championship points, but the system will allow a possibility for drivers in room #2 to earn points based on their performance.

Here's how it's going to work:
  • Points positions 1-6 (25 | 18 | 15 | 12 | 10 | 8 ) will come from the top 6 finishers in room 1.
  • Points positions 7-10 (6 | 4 | 2 | 1) will be based on merging the results from both rooms and comparing the total race times of the remaining drivers.

Thus the maximum points attainable in room 2 is 6 points and theoretically the top 4 in room 2 could score points, but even the winner in room #2 is not guaranteed any points unless their race time is quick enough.

It isn't a perfect system, but given the limit of 16 drivers in GT5 the OLR admins feel it's a good compromise.

Note: The race win and podiums from room #2 will count fully as far as WRS-Online historical results tracking, just not towards championship points in this F1 series.

Good decision (compromise). In room #2 (i'm there for sure) fewer lapping better overall race time.

Edit: also in room #1 fewer passing better time :)

Any decision how 1st quali session goes if more than 15(+1) drivers? More driver should run pre-qualification?

If more than 15 are participating in knockout quali we will run Q1 split across two lounges (half and half by division/handicap) and then the fastest 12 across both lounges merge into 1 lounge for Q2 and Q3. An OLR steward will be assigned to each lounge.

The guys who do not advance to Q2 will have to exit the main lounge, but can observe oink's feed to follow the remaining rounds.

PS. We are down to 17 confirmed and the reserves keep dropping so we are still in a one lounge scenario with a couple guys missing out. I'm hoping at least one of the reserves come through so nobody has to sit!

Any guess on how long Thursday practice is? I'm not going to be home from work until ~6PM EDT, just wondering if anyone will still be around to keep me company.

Its looking like Ill have to drop out of the monaco race. Big party in Leeds on sunday and Ive been invited to pop down.

A party? For an epic race? Bad choice son ;).

My guess is there will still be guys around. I might be late myself so chances are I will be there after 6 PM eastern.

I will not have time for practise on thursday. I will be there on Friday. I also will check at that time if anyone can watch me qualifying, as chances are I wont make it on saturday.

If you are officially withdrawing please fill out the registration form again with a status of No (Cancel) and your name will be removed from the list. If you are unsure change your status to Maybe (Reserve). This way the race organizers have an idea how to better plan for the event.

Same goes to anyone else signed up that may have had a change of plans.

It looks very much like we're going to be running one lounge for the race. That should be an experience, but it means there will be quite a bit of lapping during the race as the pace from top to bottom has a decent gap. That's fine, but lapped drivers need to be sure to observe the blue flag and that's not easy here.

The admins will be posting some guidelines for lapped cars later today before practice. If you attend practice today or tomorrow please try to observe these guidelines when a faster approaches whether we're in a race or in free run mode as a practice in both track awareness and knowing where to best go to allow a pass. We'll be happy to receive feedback and revise the guidelines before the Grand Prix on Sunday if necessary.

PS> If we are 16 in one room the GP itself on Sunday will need to be run in my lounge (GTP_WRP001) as the owner of the lounge is always reserved a spot in the room. Thus make sure I'm on your friends list. The practices today and tomorrow will be in the "B" lounge with mics-enabled (GTP_3D3_B). If we get a huge crowd (not expected) we'll shift to a mic-disabled lounge and post here in the thread.

PPS> Feel free to practice in the B lounge anytime today and tomorrow... before or after the official time slots. Just open the lounge and post here.

The WRS Formula 1 Championship Blue Flag Guidelines for Monaco

Lapping may be very frequent and tricky at Monaco so all drivers are expected to read these guidelines and ask questions or give feedback prior to the GP on Sunday. Ideally, practice these during the sessions today/tomorrow and then give us feedback. If necessary we can revise and publish updated text prior to the GP on Sunday.

The WRS Formula 1 Championship observes the blue flag rule per the OLR:
Drivers that are about to get lapped have to make sure not to interfere with the lapping cars. Slow down on the straights on either side of the track or maintain the outside line during cornering. If for whatever reason you happen to be on the inside line when being overtaken, stay on the inside line until all drivers that were about to lap you have passed. You are not allowed to deliberately block the lapping cars.

Having said that, allowing safe overtakes at Monaco is not that simple so the OLR admins are publishing the following guidelines and recommendations so that competitors know what to expect and when. Note that feedback received from the practice sessions may lead to minor changes to these guidelines.

We'll start with the beginning of the lap and go through the finish using the following map as a key.

Turn Specific Blue Flag Notes:
  • Sainte Devote: Turn 1 is an extremely fast and critical corner in these cars. As a lapped driver is approaching this turn he has to make a quick decision whether to allow the pass pre or post apex. If they can make the corner without holding up a lead lap car significantly take the corner at full speed and then allow a pass on Beau Rivage after the exit. On the other hand, if the lapped car is approaching quickly and early enough prior to the first corner the lapped car should pull to the right and allow an unobstructed pass prior to turn 1.
  • Beau Rivage: The uphill straight after turn 1 is a perfect place to allow a quick pass without costing much time. Pull to the right and allow a pass on the left.
  • Massenet: The long fast sweeping left hand turn at the top of the hill in T1 is NOT a good place to allow an overtake. Take this section at full speed and wait for a better spot.
  • Casino: The downhill section after Casino at the end of T1 is a good place to pull to the right, slow and allow a pass on the outside. The following section before/after the hairpin is very technical and a lot of time can be lost so if in doubt error on the side of allowing a pass prior to turn 5.
  • Grand Hotel Hairpin: Unless you are well off pace it might be best to stick to the racing line and continue full speed until you get through this technical section of the track. If you are damaged, on very worn tires or otherwise well off the pace, pull up against the left wall mid way on the short straight before the hairpin and lift allowing a pass on the right well before the turn in point for the hairpin. On/after the hairpin do not attempt to allow a pass until exiting onto the straight leading to tunnel as you will become a road block.
  • Tunnel: The long straight between Portier and the Nouvelle chicane is an easy place to allow a pass. Pull deliberately to the inside (right) at full speed and then slow/lift to allow a pass on the outside (left).
  • Nouvelle chicane: Take the chicane at full speed, do not attempt to pull out of the way once you've committed to taking the chicane.
  • Tabac: After the exit of the chicane (and clearing the wall) pull to the far left to allow a pass on the outside. This is another critical decision point as the next section of the track is high speed and technical and drivers need to use the entire track. If in doubt allow a pass prior to Tabac.
  • Piscine (Pool): Once your committed to going through the swimming pool section hold your line and pace until emerging from turn 16.
  • La Rascasse: Be sure to allow a pass on the right (pull to the left) prior to the small kink leading to turn 17. Between 17 and 18 pull to the inside (right) but take care if the car passing may be attempting to enter pit road. Once committed to the final turn (18/19) go full speed until the front straight.
  • Final Straight/Finish: Once the final straight pull to the right to allow a pass on the left.

General Blue Flag Notes: (apply to all of the above)
  • Be clear and deliberate when allowing a pass - send a clear signal to the lapping driver. First, pull off the racing line at full speed and then slow to allow an overtake.
  • If there are a couple lead lap cars in very close proximity be careful not to interfere in the battle. It's best to let them both pass before or after an apex and not get in between especially leading into the most technical sections. If there is significant room between them it's safe to allow one pass before and one pass after an apex depending.
  • After allowing a pass and pulling in behind the lead lap car(s) be sure to leave a bit of room for error in the next braking zones. If you haven't been following a car for a period during the race you might be caught off guard by the dirty air. You aren't racing for position and on this track you really can't gain a lot of time in the draft as it's offset by the dirty air so it is best to leave some extra room and get in clean air.
  • Use the rear view for awareness to find out if an approaching driver is battling with you for position or a car lapping you. Not knowing who is behind you is not an excuse for ignoring the blue flag. Practice using the rear view just like anything else.
  • There may be situations where a lapped car is faster (fresh tires, softer compound, differing pit strategy, damage to lead lap car) and in those situation the lapped car is allowed to overtake if the pass can be done cleanly and quickly. If the lead lap car comes right back up to pace and can re-challenge for the position the blue flag will come back out and the position will have to be conceded again so be sure to use this exception wisely.

Are people putting fuel and tire wear on for these practice times? tried taking in off and performance drop was substantial, absolutely nailed T3 and T1 on the RS tires yet but my T1 is 0.6 off, which is kinda understandable but my T3 is 0.8 seconds off and I so far have not run a T3 that hit the lines as perfectly as that
EDIT: Has my submission glitched for my RS time? 1'19.573

Yes

I'm stuck at the DMV trying to l renew my license and as we all know that's an adventure. Someone else will have to open the practice room (GTP_3D3_B) and post here when it's ready. You guys can run free run or short races, whatever you want. I'll jump in as soon as I get home...

Lol they let you have a license ? ;)

After a 4 hour marathon session practice is finally over!

Wes pre-qualified and his time will be revealed in the thread after qualification tomorrow. Anyone else who wants to race and can't make the Saturday session needs to qualify before that session takes place. Either tomorrow or early on Saturday. Post here when you are available.

The "official practice" tomorrow starts at 22:00 GMT, but feel free to open the B lounge at any point and post here. There will probably be a few of us in the B lounge tonight around 8:30 PM Pacific.

UPDATE: AT this point there are 15 drivers confirmed (+1 broadcaster) for the knockout qualification so we should be able to hold it in a single lounge. There are still two on reserve so we'll have to see how that turns out. Again, make sure you are on my friends list because the events this weekend may very well end up being in my lounge (GTP_WRP001).

Opened the B lounge... Will be AFK for 15-20 minutes and then run for 90 minutes or so.

Yesterday in practice i did test the blueflag thing and noticed that those guidelines works quite well when you made it clear to passing driver when to make pass at right place in right time - not much time lost.
How to make yourself to ghost did not work that good. Even when you're faster driver and slower driver comes behind you should go ghost so that one could pass you safely.

Ghost mode should only be used if you are stuck facing the wrong way or pinned against the wall and traffic is coming. I think you have to be at full stop, on brakes and hit start... It's not easy to do fast on my wheel which always crosses me up and I hit the PS lever instead of start (they aren't labeled). :scared:

I will defenitly do more practise tonight, but it will be at strange hours (probably during the night) I will post it when I am in the B racing room.

Full stop and then start. If you're not full stop then autopilot takes over and try to drive your car. Not easy thing to do (going to ghost) - takes some practice too.

Ye that ghost thing is crazy hard, I span out a fair few times trying to get on the pace (Realising one problem was my car only had 675 BHP!! It's upto 711 now so a bit more run in and should be a little closer, as they were some crazy times :D!), but it gave me a good opportunity to try ghosting when spinning. Ye very hard, problem I found is because your in a spin you can't literally just stop, it takes awhile but by that point you could have caused a pile up or caused cars to slow (Sorry Wes, James and Mohit!)

heh, missed practice yesterday as I powered on the ps3 and realized my GTP account is so seldom used the poor guy was broke (had 30K in the bank!). Ground out some seasonals to pick up the 10-mil and buy the car... but then I noticed I can't have the Billies break it in due to the Ferrari F1 restrictions. (I really hope GT6 drops that stupid engine break in nonsense) :grumpy:
So I guess I'll be practicing on my own tonight as I need to be in race-mode to get the miles on my Massa special.

I'll send you an FR tonight WRP. And I noticed yesterday that my 3d3 requests hadn't been picked up yet. So I'll need those for Quali tomorrow.

See you all in Q1. đź‘Ť

If your still needing some break-in, that thing can run indy laps in seconds, so it shouldn't take too long if you wanna just grind it out ;)
