Watching qualifying to get in the zone for today :D.

YouTube Link

Me too. Glad we don't have to deal with the wet!

Q1 should be nuts with 15 on track today! 20 minutes of mayhem.

What a spectacular qualifying in the real Monaco! Let's see how we get on in Cote d'Azur ;)

Yes it was. I was watching and we'll have to follow suit in Q1 and Q2 as the track will be too crowded to run our normal quali 10 sec "gaps".

Best to just follow at a safe distance of about 2 seconds if the driver ahead is at your pace or better and a bit more if you are faster. There are going to be times where you have to abort a lap due to traffic and set up the next one. It's all part of the experience so we'll all have to deal with it. You get 20 minutes in Q1 and 15 minutes in Q2 so there should be a few chances to get a good lap on good tires. Nobody should expect to run 20 minutes without a single obstruction.... the slower drivers are entitled to also lap at their own full pace without interference.

If someone in Q1 runs a time that will safely put them into Q2 it would be nice if they parked for the remainder of the session, but we don't know exactly what "safe" is with this grid so this is just an "ask" and not a "requirement". 12 advance to Q2 (and Q3 times are washed away after the session for those that advance) so if you run a high 1'08 or mid/low 1'09 it would be shocking if that time didn't advance to Q2. That being said every driver has a right to the track for 20 minutes so.

Here are the logistics for each of the quali sessions:
  1. After pre-quali warm-up or the break between sessions we'll close/clear the track and reset leaderboard times. To reset your time:
    • Exit to the lobby
    • Re-enter the pits
    • Exit to the lobby again.
  2. All drivers will then stay in the lobby for further instructions.
  3. When the director announces pits are open all drivers in that session should enter the pits and stay in the pits.
  4. Once all drivers are in the pits, the race director will note the time on the race clock and announce the green flag time which will be the next even minute and the checkered flag time which will be 20/15/10 minutes later. For example:
    • All drivers for Q1 are in the pits at 1:03:23.000 on the race clock
    • Director announces green flag at 1:04:00.000 and checkered flag at 1:24:00.000
  5. Any time after the green flag, drivers can exit the pits and lap for Q1 until the end of the 20 minute session.
  6. Drivers can complete any lap started *before* the checkered flag comes out.
    • The checkered flag is based on the time and not the director announcing it... I'll be director and could be driving trying to complete my own lap so each driver is responsible for knowing the time and observing the rules. If I'm not on a hot lap I will announce the checkered flag over the mic and/or chat text.
  7. Once the checkered flag is announced you can complete the you're on and then run an additional in-lap at reduced speed and then should drive into the pits.
  8. Stay parked in the pits until instructed by the director to exit.
  9. The director and stewards will exit pits and record all best laps from the session while drivers wait in the pits.
  10. Finally, the director will announce the times of all drivers and results and drivers can exit the track when their time is called.
  11. Drivers will be instructed to exit the pits and a 5 minute break will begin once all results from the session are announced and confirmed.
  12. Drivers that are knocked out are welcome to stay in the lounge and observe, but will not be allowed to enter pits or track for the remainder of the qualification.

PS> Reminder we'll be running the events today AND tomorrow in my lounge: GTP_WRP001.

Just had another practice session to try get this time down a bit. I'm consistent in 1:10's soft/hards so figured it was driving style and knew the first part of S2 is where I'm losing time, I've improved slightly on that, just need to put some decent qualy laps in.

Think I fail at setup building at least ^^, I can't get anywhere near the limiter, but it means my fuel usage is very low lol :)!

I'm gonna have to unregister. I'm moving house, was supposed to have it done by now but it's been pushed back to this weekend, which is really the only window I have to make it happen now. Just bad timing. Looking forward to catching the stream and praying for a clean race for you guys haha.

oh noes! ... Glad to hear you're moving into the new house... sad to hear I'll be carrying the PURE flag on my own now. :boggled:

Unfortunately we're at 17 registered drivers with the recent drop outs... just short of enough for 2 lounges so the drivers are not only fighting for order on the starting grid, but to actually qualify for the race itself.

Only 15 of the 17 drivers are guaranteed to make the grid with the slowest 2 going on reserve and filling in for last minute cancels (in order of quali). Three drivers have pre-qualified and if their times are better than those eliminated in Q1 or Q2 they will make the grid and the slowest drivers eliminated in Q1 will be reserves on Sunday.

Really wish this game would allow 18 or 20 on the grid and feel sorry for the guys that put in the prep time and won't be able to race Sunday. :(

Here's a little promo/intro oink put together for the event... Getting excited yet?!

Getting excited yet?!

YES! :D

Awesome piece there Paul 👍 I also feel for the guys that might get eliminated for the race, that will be a bitter pill to swallow!

EDIT: I've submitted my Driver Bio for Paul's livestream.

hmm.... just ran 20 laps on the softs to get the 40 miles I needed to finish running in the motor and check the wear/fuel rates. I'm rather surprised how the car doesn't get much harder to drive as the rears melt away. I was expecting lap 20 to be a tea-cup ride, and it ended up being just slow by not deadly.

p.s. Thank you for using "normal" fuel burn... that way the pit-crew isn't all bug-nasty. Keeping it between the armco for 78 laps is tough enough without doing all sorts of race engineering at the same time. 👍

My lounge is open for pre-quali practice. GTP_WRP001.

Knockout quali starts in under an hour!!!

15 minutes until quali begins. We've got 11 drivers + oink broadcasting in my lounge.

All other drivers should be here within the next 10 minutes.

Great qualifying, you guys are monsters.
Least I got a lot of practice getting out of the way. ;)

Should be fun tomorrow without all the push-push-push knockout pressure causing spins and walls.

watching the replay of the feed... looks like I need to figure out how to get those 32 s2. times... was only a couple tenths off elsewhere.
Really appreciate all the hard work btw. 👍

Congrats Bart on pole position 👍

I must say I'm slightly disappointed with my result, I was hoping to end up at least a bit higher. As it turns out, I'll be starting 10th (I came 9th, but Wes set a faster time in his pre-qualifying session). Oh well.

Here's to a great race tomorrow

Here are the results from knockout qualifying.

And then merging in the pre-qualifiers results in the following:

Odd numbers are on the left side of the grid.

Gazziboy is first reserve in case we get a last minute cancel or no show and Racingworld is 2nd reserve. Anyone not in the lounge 5 minutes before the event without prior notice will lose his spot and one of the reserves will take it (given they are willing and ready).

PS> That was loads of fun and I want to thank all the drivers for understanding the procedures as everything went really smoothly. I guess it helps that we basically just copied the real world F1 setup which everyone knows! And big thanks to oink for streaming it! Off to watch the recording now.

0.06 Off Q3!! Damn you 15hp (Ran at 710!) and GT5 corruption :)!

I'm so looking forward to the race though!!

A little disappointed with 5th, definitely could have gone faster than my 1.09.6 but couldn't get a lap together, kept hitting the walls :( Congrats to PASM though on pole 👍

Yeah, that's odd... you're laps got slower as the sessions went on.
Given how close you all were at the front (P1 moved around quite a bit at the end of Q2 it looked) it should be a pretty good battle. I'll wave when you go by. :sly:

curious... What's the "div x P" ?

P = "Provisional" sub-division. We allow drivers who run the WRS qualifier to run online events without waiting (since we don't really use the handicap), but they have to wait for the full processing before they get their subdivision and official handicap. Drivers who have been approved for online racing, but not official processed or added to the registry get this status.

I was a pure F1 fan in '90s, F1 was great to watch at this period.
And I remember one race, 1996, Monaco, I was 11 years old. Maybe the most intense race I ever seen in my life...

For your information, only 3 drivers on 22 (yea you read well, 3 drivers only) were able to cross the finish line...
