Oh and I had a quick idea, what if we started some sort of periodical? Blog, topic, post, whatever. We could have willing instructors (hello) post up articles detailing a certain topic or idea they have a passion for. It can be anything from a paragraph to multiple pages but it would be a great resource for people that want to pick the brains of experienced online racers.
I already have an idea for an article talking about the psychology behind following someone and ending up copying them unconsciously, especially when they take the wrong lines and make mistakes haha. It's interesting stuff.
Sounds really good. I'm watching this with interest; I still don't have enough confidence in my skills to be teaching others, but if time zones work out, I'll try to be around to help a bit, and writing and trading ideas is something I can definitely do.
I've long thought that one of the things we could do in the WRS was to compile a couple of things:
1) A do, don't do list, and maybe a list of when and how it might be a good idea to break those rules. Any amount of resources are available that tell you about line, apex, trail-braking, heel-toe, even racecraft. But there's so little depth! Maybe this should be more of a "toolkit to try" type thing?
2) Template corners. There's some corners that are either completely their own thing, or are particularly good examplars of their type. It would be possible to get someone skilled in analysis to compare replays (preferably premium model combos) from WRS weeks to show what techniques some good runs used on particular corners - it would even be possible to highlight strengths of different driving styles this way, or what is needed for different cars/drivetrains.
3) Beyond my couple, racecraft "moments", or even strategies/tactics paying off.
If there's examples for this out there already, even for different games, it'd be handy to be able to point at. Maybe previous WRS iterations?
