GTP_WRS-Online : Academy/D-League Racing - Suspended Until GT7

Thank you, everyone who joined us, students and instructors. Special thank you goes out to Gooners, who took Dean on string, and helped him through the circuit, nice approach Mohit 👍

Hope to see ya all next week.

Yes. Big thanks from me too!

Fun time guys. Sorry Dennis for the DC, we were having good fun :D.

Quick video I suggest you guys watch on braking. Every word he says can be translated back to GT5

EDIT: The video doesn't teach you exactly how to do it, but it gives a good idea on what trail braking is. It also helps you understand how ABS works.

Thanks for the video Mohit, some nice knowledge there, went ahead and watched the whole series.

Manu, I can always help you out with trail braking if you want in another session.

Yea this would great, I did some sessions with Denis (roomboter) earlier and was able to gain about a second in the hour, so im def open to more sessions and tips from you aliens :) cheers

Thanks for the vid indeed Mohit.

Thanks for the compliment Manu, but i don't consider myself an alien. Huys like Wes are the aliens.

Glad i could help you out. Gaining over a second in a 1 hour session is quit a lot. Coming out of the Academy lobby with a 2:18.5xx and after our private session leaving the track with a 2:17.3xx is quit an achievement 👍

The idea was to learn you more about trail breaking but i notice there was more time to gain by changing some of your habits. Habits that cost more guys in the academy lobby alot of time. Problem was T2 and T3. Choosing the wrong line and being to aggressive. Patience and setting the car up for a corner by sacrificing a corner for the next one. Sacrificing some turns will pay out the next turn.

That T2 was all about patience. That first double left-hander of T2 can be taken as 1 long turn. Diving in the first part, you only lift while you steer in and let the car roll and be patience. Look at the concrete part at the inside and judge if you have the right speed while pointing at the curb of the concrete part. Maybe you have to brake slightly if you liftoff a bit to late while entering the first part of the corner of maybe the slightest throttle of you lift off a bit to soon. Once you got the car pointed at the curb. And this has everything to do with weight shifting. The car has to hang nicely in the suspension. And there shouldn't be any major correction on the steering while you in that turn, cos that makes the car unbalanced and all the momentum is gone. If you do this right you can go flat out before you reach the concrete part in the second part of that long left-hander. With your left wheel over the curb of the concrete part in almost a straight line and aim for the next apex of the right-hander and clip that curb with your right wheels. Let the car wide to the left curb but don't touch that curb. There you set the car up for the next right and left-hander before you enter the tunnel. Steer in and brake a bit about 2 meters before the shadow on the track. Brake just a little just after you steer in and let the car roll and be patience again. Let the hang in the suspension again, weight shifting) You want to end up on the right side of the track. Saw alot of people ending up on the left side of the track and al the momentum for a good exit into the tunnel is gone. You sacrifice abit of time in the first part of the chicane to win it all and more back in the tunnel. The left-hander after tunnel you have to stay on the left side approaching the second tunnel. Saw alot of people ending up on the right side into the second tunnel. Yes you win a bit in the 30 meter but you lose it al exiting the tunnel. So stay left and set the car up for the long blind right-hander out of the tunnel.

That was my explanation of T2. If you do it right, you will gain aleast .5xx to .7xx, in that sector alone. But don't try to gain that time immediately. It's a very difficult sector. Just start to try the weight shifting part and being patiences, take it easy till you get the hang of the weight shifting. Once you get the feeling (what is a great feeling, once you get the hang of it) you can try picking up pace.

Hope it will help you guys out.

OP is updated and sign ups for this Saturday (Dec 15, 2012) are open!

This week is all about 'Slow in - Fast out' approach on cornering. The draftskills can be learned here aswell. And just like last week the SA races will follow right afther the Academy with the same combo.

See ya on Saturday !!

Nice event coming up, learned a lot from watching videos from the TT I think that and vagabonds video is a def advantage. I'll skip this week not in town but if speedy is willing to stream it or put it on YouTube I'd love to here what tips came out of the event

- I'm not sure how Friday fits me... though if it's at or after 8 pm GMT, I don't think there should be a problem.

By the way, - I had a great time yesterday, testing this "combo" (- I think it was that we were testing?), with Frank, n0ize (Daniel if I remember right?) and Speedy . Plus, I got to know them a little better :sly:.

Yeah Dean, was a nice practice yesterday 👍 and yes you remebered my name correctly, it's Daniel.

Fridays would be ok with me, if it is after 20.00GMT. But today I can't, going to watch "The Hobbit" at the movies :dopey:

I am making a deal with my wife (details to remain private!). I should be able to make it but I am only posting a 50% promise.

I added you to the database. You should show up on the registration table with the next pic update.
I haven't checked yet but don't forget to send the FR's on PSN to GTP_3D3Racing, GTP_3D3_A and GTP_3D3_B.

Welcome and have fun! :gtpflag:

EDIT: FR's accepted. See you on track. :)

Yep, will do. :)
I'll put a post up when it'll go up. Plus, you'll see if my sig is updated with a green 'ONLINE!!!' next to the livestream link. ;)

You guys can have a look at the Online Race Livestream here (http://nl.twitch.tv/speedy6543/b/317658650) from Event 35. Just fast forward to 22min, that's where the formationlap ends and the race starts.

Also, I see I uploaded the PAL replay of that race here in this post as well.

See you guys on track this evening. Don't know if I can make it at 20:00GMT but I'll join as soon as I can.

Cheers speedy, if you have a capture device could you save for YouTube? Cause the sound isn't very good on live stream and I think you can't hear people talking through that

You won't be able to hear other talking in the livestream because it doesn't pick up audio going to a headset.

- So the WRS Academy (and Saturday race) will be on Twitch/YouTube? 👍

I've signed up somewhat tentatively as an Instructor to help out. I can't be loud on the headset that time of morning (family), and may have to turn it off or bail out early, hence the 60%, but I want to be able to bolster Bart and Christophe if I can.

Like Shawn said, voices are not going through to my laptop.
The only way to hear the voicechat is me disabling my bluetooth mic but then I can't say anything to the rest.

I've gone for 18months premium on Twitch so the sound and images are a bit more clear.
With a year-end action it only came down to 1.6€/month. :)

I had fun guys. - I might not be able to join in the Tuesday and Wednesday races, but I'm pretty sure I can join in these two races on Saturday.

I had a great time today! Well worth the deal I made with the wife! I really enjoyed running in traffic in the first race. I was having issues with instablility under breaking though, mostly at the end of the long straights. The back end just wanted to swap places with the front. I tried to brake in a straight line but maybe I am using too much pedal pressure at the beginning of application. Sometimes a touch of gas would settle the car, any thoughts? B/B 6/5 ABS 3

Al

I used the default then 4/6. Default BB worked better, but I didn't try any other BB settings. Was a lot of fun until I went off in the dirt on lap 5. My tires seemed spent then, or maybe it was me that was spent! :)

I was using 6/5 ABS 1, was perfectly fine when I hit my brakingzone correctly. Slightly too late on the brakes and I'd have to brake and turn at the end which resulted in a loose back end. In this 4WD Lambo it's not really an issue as you can catch it pretty easily.

Using a higher ABS setting makes your stopping distance longer which will lead more into braking and turning in at the end of a brakezone, leading to more loose turn-entries.

Al, when the 6/5 ABS 1 still gives you problems you could always try going to 7/5 or 6/4. Just remember to start braking on time. Honestly I had the same issues at the beginning in this Combo here. My best lap in the Academy was around 1'54.4. By the time the Attack Races were starting I found at least 0.5 sec on track making a quali of 53.9. In the race I even had a 53.7, no draft as I crashed out in the first lap. :sly:

If I heard Frank correctly we're sticking to this Combo for another week. So please take note of your times you ran yesterday so you can compare them with those from next week. Also, you can watch the stream of the Academy and/or the Attack Races. Download and watch replays from the Time Trial week 18. You can even hit the lounge whenever you want to get a little more practice.
