Jumping in the main lounge right now.

Joining you now.

EDIT: Out.

I think my car is now set. Mostly stock (removed wing or rather switched to my green no wing version). Added 30 KG ballast to slow it down in the corners (longer brake zones) just a little so I could add the Clutch: Twin-Plate and Flywheel: Sports to aid acceleration.

It's still quite a dog on the straight... if I make it fast enough to be real competitive in a straight line I hit 1'43.8 relatively easily... it's amazingly nimble around that final corner which is where much of the time is gained... wish we could go two wide there.

PS> I've officially passed EDK in post count. :sly:

You're right, Ren, the G4 is quite the cooool deathtrap.

Scott, however, might just make the Alpine work. 👍

Tim, Scott, and I ran some practice, and a short race, and this is a great combo. :D

Yh I had a blast in the earlier practice, looking forward to the race.

Played around with my Clio last night, detuned a little further so that my best was about .6 away from the target for almost all of the laps. Every once in a while I would almost hit target. Madrid can vary wildly lap to lap as there are so many places to either make or break your time. I will not be driving quite as agressively as this racer did.

I just noticed my car is over the allowed weight, going to set up another car. Once I do find it, I will re register with the new car.

If you want to practice a bit with whatever car you go with, see how its pace is compared with the one I'm using, same one in yesterdays practice, I could always jump in the lobby?

Thanks ,got it worked out. I will be using the Spoon Civic. I should have read all the details before choosing the first time.

The main lounge is open for parity racing practice. First race starts in less than an hour.

Thanks for the racing guys. Some really great battles. I still can't believe it was the last lap and 6 or 7 guys all within 20 metres, 2-3 across the track. Just crazy. Anyway, thanks for the race and all the guys I battled with :sly:

Some of you who raced today did not post your race specs. Can you do that for our database? Even if you are not racing tomorrow.

Out of interest, how come tomorrow's race is quite early?

We've had the past parity races on Sunday at the same time... basically because some of us can't always race in the middle of our days. :sly:

Oh of course. I guess late at night for me, is midday for some of you guys across the pond. Yeh that makes sense.

I'm running a tad late... If the room isn't open yet feel free to open it. Be there by race start.

Can the following drivers enter their specs in the reg form before I close the registration:
  • GTP_PASM
  • GTP_n0iZe

EDIT: nevermind... looks like there is a problem with the form and you guys already put them in.

How did the race today go?

PS. Did you change your car in the end Tim? Registration says you didn't, but I thought you had had it with that speedster ;)

A couple pics from Madrid:

I didn't change my car, but I did remove some ballast to make it more competitive. I ran a 1'43.6 out in front during the first feature race... but it was the outlier and every other lap I was alone was over 1'44.100. But it was much more consistent and not quite so easy to pass. But still I had nothing for the rockets and once a car like Kevin's MR2 got in front it was lights out. I think Kevin may have hit a 1'42 there in that last one from the lead. :sly:

Anyway, it was more fun today at least being in the mix for some of the races and some extended close battles which is what's this is all about. Running away with a win in this event is as good as finishing in last by 5 seconds... basically defeats the purpose.

I ended up dropping my power to 145bph, Tim. I can't see what i put up on the form though because it doesn't appear to have updated.

Max speed was 117mph, can't remember the PP, weight was the same.

I really did not think the MR2 was going to be as good as it was, I did not even manage a 44.1 until warmup today. Once I hit a 43 in race, I took the Sports Exhaust Manifold off, but then my best lap was a 44.5, I just could not get back to the right pace.

That was an 8 HP drop, so I decided to drop it just 4 HP using the limiter, and that basically made no difference. My fast was a 43.5 in that last race, but I ran several consecutive 43's. I would not say I "ran away" with the win though, Pekka was very close for a good portion of the race.

I'll be sure and take more time practicing before the next one of these, I just was not quite as up to speed on the track as I thought I was, and found a few tricks with gearing in corners that netted me loads of time.

I think I have one lap faster than target in draft at Monza, never ran faster than target in clean air.

Was fun racing today, though, still was able to have some tight battles with many drivers, and most important, very clean.

I think we all found a lot of time at Madrid. I prepared a lot for this one and just kept finding time to the point where I had to cripple my car over and over. We just don't run Madrid very often so we haven't squeezed every ounce out of the track.

I know that I've improved greatly at Madrid just because of this event. I'm looking forward to running here again as there are many places to gain/lose time and it's a lot of fun driving.

I like the parity formula as it really exposes me to cars and tracks I wouldn't otherwise drive.

Agreed to all of that. I learned a couple of lines during the races, and several extra tricks to get the power down. In the last race, because I missed the Draft / following an Alpine braking point, I punted Scott, and waited. I was running laps alone not long after (deathtrap :sly: ), trying to catch the field and going all out. After some solid low to mid 44s (and only a few mistakes) weren't getting the job done, I tried yet more stuff (I was really enjoying myself) - and came up with 3 43.4s in a row.

Now, part of that was definitely getting used to the car and track (last turn rhythm particularly, as you mentioned somewhere). But the other part, I think, was that in the process of adding ballast and limiting between races, I'd actually given the thing more traction and less risk - so it wasn't as fast, but could be pushed more easily, and on skinny old 1971 tires, that matters a fair bit. Something to think about.

Here's a replay from the last few laps of the first 'Feature' race. Where there was about 7 cars within about 2 seconds. Some great racing.

Not to mention a nasty incident right at the very end. I somehow managed to be the only one of about 5 cars involved to come out facing the wrong way...and then Bart comes round the corner and (not his fault of course) hits me one more time for good luck ;)

Paul, glad you could capture one of my wall face plants in the video. I have to say after making a few minor changes to the car after the races on Saturday I had a lot of fun on Sunday even though I managed one or two additional wall encounters.

I was a little scared of posting this combo to begin with given the nature of the course, but it went very well in the end. A couple multi-car pile ups, but pretty much no way to run 8 races here in close quarters without a couple of those. The grid size was perfect as it would have been quite impossible with 13-16 drivers.

We're going to do a slightly more wide open course next time with sports tires, but I want to come back to a city course on comfort tires in the near future.
