Paul, glad you could capture one of my wall face plants in the video. I have to say after making a few minor changes to the car after the races on Saturday I had a lot of fun on Sunday even though I managed one or two additional wall encounters.

I was a little scared of posting this combo to begin with given the nature of the course, but it went very well in the end. A couple multi-car pile ups, but pretty much no way to run 8 races here in close quarters without a couple of those. The grid size was perfect as it would have been quite impossible with 13-16 drivers.

We're going to do a slightly more wide open course next time with sports tires, but I want to come back to a city course on comfort tires in the near future.

Quite. It seems that events like these are less likely in the weekly races, so it's nice to 'escape' to a mad city race like this in these parity events for a totally different racing experience, but with the same amazing quality racing.

So, it turns out Easter is Sunday, March 31st. I was tentatively planning to have the next parity race on March 30/31, but I am thinking of just putting it off for a while and keeping that weekend clear of events.

Note: We've got some other plans for April weekends so the next available parity slot after this would be end of April or early May.

Looking for some feedback.... what are your thoughts? Have a parity event the weekend of March 30/31 or hold off for a while? We could just skip the Sunday time slot and run as normal on Saturday too.

I dont much care for easter personally, but im sure people will be with the fam and whatnot, so just running saturday might be chill for enough people to make a race

Same here, don't care about easter, just a normal day for me...except the fact we have an extra holliday on monday :)

So it looks like we'll be parity racing on Easter weekend. :dopey:

The admins (specifically hasslemoff and JTV) have a completely crazy parity combo planned for the holiday weekend... figuring the crowd might be a little lighter than usual we're going to take the opportunity to try something a little "risky". We'll announce the details on Sunday night after the Greatest Hits event is complete.

We've got three slightly more "sane" combos tested and ready and we'll keep those in the bank for a later date.

You do know how to keep everyone at the edge of their seats, Tim. I can't wait until the announcement... :)

Damn it Tim, now I'm curious about the "risky" combo :dopey:

My sunday specs were 195 bhp / 1050kg 423pp max speed 192 kph Comfort Medium tyres.

maybe we will do some parity racing on a kart track :) But to make it more intresting you will need to drive youre car in reverse :)

Parity Formula (courtesy of DeadNutsEven Racing)

We'll publish a track, target time, max speed and tire compounds. The current specs:

  • Track: TopGear Test Track
  • Target Time: 1'30.000
  • Max Speed: 175 kph / 108 mph (your speed should not exceed this at the end of the longest straight*, and you should not hit the rev-limiter)
  • Tire: Comfort Medium (Use a softer compound if you cannot obtain the target time without going over the max speed)
  • Car Choice: Any Car

Your job is to choose any car in the game and set it up any way you like until you can just reach, but not exceed the target time using our online specs (listed below), but be sure to run online with tire wear / fuel consumption set to off. The tire compound specified is the primary option and is a reasonable target for D2-D3 drivers. If you are having a hard time achieving the target lap time without exceeding the max speed then you can use a tire one compound softer. If you are D1 and/or alien driver you can use a tire one compound harder to achieve your result.

You can:
  • Use a car stock (but please break it in and change oil so your power is constant)
  • Use a fully tuned car (any parts as long as you meet the requirements)
  • Use ballast or power limiter to fine tune your achievable times
  • Use a clutch and any shifter (as long as you use it when you set your times)
  • Use any view (cockpit, etc. as long as you use it to set your times and as long as you can drive safely and maintain situation awareness)
  • Use ABS (or not) -- as long as you use the same settings to achieve the target time

You will have to put some practice time in to get consistent with the car/track and fine tune your setup as you improve and approach the target time. We may even organize a few of these session prior to the event, but for now just post to this thread if you want to use the lounge for practice and invite others to join. If you don't prepare enough and are still on a steep part of your learning curve when you show up for the event you are likely to improve significantly during the race and create an imbalance. We will have some procedures to correct that during an event, but the more prepared you are the better the racing will be for everyone.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss the best approach to converging on the best specs for you. Choose a car that you can be consistent with. If you have trouble with consistency choose an easier handling car or opt for the softer compound. The idea is for everyone to have a shot at a win and be able to negotiate traffic safely.

Once you have a car and spec picked you can sign up for the event and use the registration form in the 3rd post. You'll be asked some details about the car and specs. You can update your specs at any time by filling out the registration form again. If you are interested and want to save your car choice for later just put in TBD in the fields. This will help us get an advanced measure of interest for any event.

Event Settings
  • Game Mode: Normal Race
  • Laps: Two 10 minute sprints (7 laps) + two 20 minute features (13 laps)

Standard Clean OLR Rules Apply:
  • Unless otherwise specified, all rules from the original WRS event apply.
  • You are expected to drive clean at all times as if you are racing in the WRS. All participants are required to follow the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines.
  • 3D3 Race Stewards (who are taking part in race, but will review the replay) reserve the right to kick out or invalidate the result of any driver from the Race Room for driving offensively. If you ignore any warnings from the stewards and are kicked out of the race room, you will not be allowed to participate in future 3D3 events.
  • Contact with walls should be avoided. Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification.
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • Runoff areas are not part of the track including green painted concrete.
  • Limit your contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • No hybrids
  • No cheating of any kind
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • Passing and Blocking: Aggressive blocking is not permitted, but the driver in front has the right to choose his/her line and braking point and drivers behind should respect that line. These events are "for fun" so just play nice and take a conservative rather than an aggressive approach when possible.

Stewards Notes:
This combo will be tricky and demand patience... good luck!

Good Luck, OLR Team:gtplanet:

We may decide to run all shorter races (no full length features) if we want to reduce the chance of an "intercept" at the track cross over.

We figured parity racing, which almost guarantees a close pack for an extended period, would be a perfect time to use this track for the first time (maybe only time) in WRS-Online events. Plus, being a holiday weekend the grids are likely to be smaller so less risk of spreading out.

If we do have any collisions... heck, this is only for fun anyway. :sly:

EDIT: And as I said before all credit for this combo goes to hasslemoff and jtv. 👍

Gate 2 is now over, so I can do the Parity Racing :)
Need to test some cars, all that I know is that it'll be a stock car.

HAHA! After we talked about how crazy racing on this track is...Here it is!

Unless someone really screws up and gets very far behind, I don't think its likely that a cross over would happen. But if you think it is likely to happen, then I agree, shorter races might be wise.

I always aim to use stock, but remember you are going for a specific target time and can't go under... so I always target stock and end up doing one of two things to tweak for those final tenths.

  • If I get too fast I lower power and/or add ballast and/or lower aero if available. That's what Pekka would call "stock - detuned".
  • If I can't quite get to the target I add parts that do not affect the handling and cannot be tuned. Drivetrain upgrades first like the twin-plate clutch will sometimes make the car 2-4 tenths faster alone.

If you have enough time you can probably switch cars until you find one *very* close to the mark... but frankly I never have that much time and once I invest a couple hours in a car I'd rather make a few tweaks from stock rather than start from scratch.

Finally, you'll have to be ready for adjustments on race day... so you want a little room both ways. You might find yourself running a tenth or two below the target on race day just due to driving in pressure when your best comes out. You will need to adjustability to drop power in that case between our sprints and features. Or you might find for some reason you can't reach the target and want to make a tweak up a bit. Just be sure to give yourself a situation where you have a little wiggle room both ways with the setup you choose. That's why we removed the option of a recommended garage car as there is no way to fine tune them.

I was chuckling inside when you were telling me a race organizer would have to be crazy to choose this track. I knew we were about to announce it and you were calling me crazy.

Honestly, this event is 100% about fun... we don't have too many opportunities to use this track and this is the ideal setup really. A now or never scenario.

I plan to hop in the lounge starting between 19:00 and 20:00 GMT today. Haven't even done a lap yet so I have no idea on a car. Will probably stay until I get a car to the right pace... if anyone is around at that point wouldn't mind a few short races too.

Ill hopefully make it after 20:00 GMT :)

Might be able to hop in, but probably unlikely. I'm gunna work on a car now. Will have it ready for practice tomorrow evening, so I'll post again then see if anyone's down for a practice then.

Looks like I'm not going to be able to make it to the lounge until a little after 2:00 PM pacific, probably around 2:15 (21:15 GMT).

Signed up for the parity races for saturday and sunday.
Still have to choose a car tough, was going to do it yesterday, but only then noticed that I haven't unlocked TTGT yet :dunce:
Actually it was quite fun to do these challenges again, the Elise 111R race was quite difficult to get 1st.

Managed to unlock it and will try out some cars tonight in the lounge around 21:30 GMT.

I've got my car picked out, but specs not final yet. Still very sloppy at this track so my times are not consistent. I should be at practice at some point today.

Remember the main lounge is reserved for Academy from 19:00 GMT to around 21:00 GMT today so use the B lounge for parity practice during that window.

I've switched my status to reserve for both days. I'm highly unlikely on Sunday and more likely on Saturday, but family activities and weather will dictate my participation.

I've got the car of my choice down as well: the Lotus Esprit Turbo HC '87. Real old skool Esprit, with the BBS alloys and soft suspension. I'll leave it stock and tune the power to laptime specification. Seems to be somewhere around 150 bhp. It's a hoot to drive :) and it's British.
