Heads up for my fellow Australian residents...

If you're after a G27 the you should get yourself down to JB hi-fi before April 4. They have them at 30% off so you can walk away with a shiny new wheel for AUD209!

http://www.jbhifi.com.au/games/accessories/logitech/g27-racing-wheel-sku-260218/

I've posted this in the sim hardware section, but wanted to give you guys a heads-up as well.

Jon (jtv90069), get yourself down to JB mate!

OK, thanks Jon. Now if you can inform my other half that the wheel and required chair/stand setup would not be an eyesore and is worthy of space in the living room....

She's sleeping right now Chris, I'll tell her later :sly:

EDIT: sorry, couldn't help myself... Take it one step at a time mate. Get the wheel and then complain you have no where to mount it. Use an ugly table and an uncomfortable chair and complain of back ache. If only there was something available that would solve all your problems!!!!!

No worries. Look out, she can be grumpy when she wakes up :nervous:.

In all seriousness, I dont really have enough time to devote at the moment, will reconsider once I get my PhD thesis done at the end of the year. Might reward myself with a wheel and stand :).

If anyone has had issues with loading times being slow, the "Rebuild Database" option in the PS3 Safe Mode menu is a useful tool. I did that last week to fix some issues with BF3 I was having and now GT5 is loading tracks in about 10 seconds for me.

This is the guide I used.

Ill give it a go my PS3 is a fat 80GB, over 4 year old (bought for GT5 lol) so might give it a kick it needs. 👍

Edit: Gave it a go only took a few minutes to do even though it says it will take few hours. Loaded up a few tracks and it is a lot quicker, in fact all GT5 and PS3 seems to be running quicker.

Thanks GTPorsche

Thanks for the tip GTPorsche, I was starting to pull my hair out at the outrageous loading times. Don't know what happened in the last 5 months but yesterday I had almost 2 minutes of black screen when I exited practise mode to go to the frikkin main menu. I'll try anything at this point!

I just tried it and it doesn't take long to do, works great and loading tracks goes instantly faster.
It gives the impession my PS3 just got some extra RAM Memory installed. 👍

See in the WRS leaderboard how do I get a scotland flag instead of british flag? :P, Also it doesn't show that I use a wheel how do I sort that out ? Is there something I've done wrong or still need to do?

It shows I use a wheel now  it's magic :D

I didn't want to put this post in this weeks WRS thread as I didn't want to come across as I was moaning to everybody :grumpy:

I have tried for a while now to get back up to speed on the game and get used to using the wheel again after my long break from the game. I am not sure if it is the new wheel firmware I am using that is making me so bad or if I am just that rusty, I am on the verge of giving up trying :grumpy:

Amazingly the brake pedal seems to be giving me just as much problems as using the wheel again. Half the time it's like i'm scared to push the brake more than half way in case I break it. At this stage I would go as far to say I would be happier with some DFGT pedals

To put all this into perspective, this weeks combo is a touring car on race tyres. This thing feels like it's glued to the road on R1s and yet I can't drive it or anything else for that matter. I am lucky to get around the track without flying off.

It shouldn't be taking me this long to get back up to speed, i'm lost and really don't know what to do. I have a feeling it's not just me and that it is the wheel giving me problems :grumpy:

I am no where near as fast or consistent as I was :(

Try go back to some older WRS, load a ghost replay (maybe not of your best lap right way :sly:) pick the same car and give it a serious try and see if you can catch it and pass it. Maybe it´s only an impression. If not try to compare both laps on the data analizer and see what´s happening.

Another option, don´t you have a friend with a different wheel that you can use for a while just to compare ?

Last, maybe you´re trying to hard and are tense and you know that the smother the faster :dopey:

Plato, I don't really have any useful tips but I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry to hear that you're still struggling so much.

I remember a few months back how excited you were about getting your new setup. It's a real bummer to hear that you're not enjoying yourself and I hope you can figure it out soon.

And by the way, you are moaning. lol

Guys, we're moving to the US at the end of May and so I will be selling my PS3 and G27 (the PS3 won't work and I can sell my G27 here for the approximate cost of a new one in the US so it's a no brainer).

Question: if I back up my PAL game save to a USB drive can I then load it onto my new NTSC US PS3? I suspect that I may need to continue to use my PAL disc for this to work.

Can anyone confirm? Thanks

PAL savegame won't work on a NTSC copy of GT5.

However,
I don't think you need to sell your PS3 as those are universal.
Marc (Hydro) and I exchanged GT5 copies a while back and now we both have our original PS3 with our respective GT5 copy. (My PAL and Marc his NTSC) + a copy of GT5 of eachother so we both have a PAL and NTSC version of GT5 working on only one PS3.
The PS3 automatically makes two seperate savegames. 👍

OK, so I'll need to use my PAL disc on the new PS3. Thanks

Yes, in fact if you wanted to I think you can install both versions (NTSC and PAL) on the same PS3. You could view replays from either system. Not really necessary for most, but I believe a few of the admins have this setup already as it's useful for being able to review any type of replay.

Edit: Tree'd by Speedy [again].

PS> We will welcome you to the US with open arms! Australia's loss is our gain for sure. Come join us for our online events now that you are in a time zone where it makes sense and hopefully have access to decent internet. We're a bit behind some of Canada and Europe as far as massive bandwidth connections, but it's still pretty good here depending on your location. (Don't move next to Lefty if you want fast internet )

Thanks guys

Christophe, PS3 is universal but only 220-240V hence the need for a new one. Not sure whether it's worth me buying a new NTSC game disc. I've got very little progression through the game, but I do have all the cars I want and quite frankly I can't be bothered to start again.

Will go NTSC when the next disc goes on sale!!!

You don't really need to play through the NTSC version if you're just going to check replays. Unless you have other ideas I would recommend you buy the XL version so you don't have to do many updates when the time comes round. 👍
