You can try some things in the meantime, Jon. Like tonight, we have NA practice...if you're online in GT5 around the same time you were last night, you could try to join the lounge for a minute or two to see if you connection stuff is up to the task. We recommend wired ethernet and setting your PS3 IP address in a DMZ on your router, for best results.

Thanks Lucas, if I get the chance to run tonight I suspect it will be later on after we've finished getting the house straight for our guests. I can't run a wired connection from the router as I'm on a different floor. Will try and join a lounge at some point and check how the connection is. We have high speed cable internet so as long as Yo Gabba Gabba isn't being streamed in HD from Netflix it should work OK. I'm a complete novice at this though, so will make sure I read all the documentation that you, Tim and Marc have already created.

Kevin and (maybe) Marc run wireless, I believe. Wired is just a little insurance against *ahem* household interference. :ill: With my Comcast wireless modem/router combo, if someone is hitting the wireless hard, it's pretty noticeable on other wireless connections, whereas the wired connections during that period seem fine. The DMZ thing is more of a preventative measure against invisible driver issues. We haven't had those for a while, so either our drivers have gotten better about their home setups, or GT5 has gotten less picky. :)

If the wireless online racing doesn't work, maybe you could try this, Jon.

I know they don't come cheap but I'm using it to get the digital tv signal upstairs and after getting rid of some bugs in the beginning (just resetting by pulling out and putting back in), it works like a charm now. :)

I'm usually on nightly from about 8:30-10:00 Pacific (after getting the kids to finally go to sleep :sly:). Your on the main lounge friends list so feel free to jump on anytime and drop a message in the thread.

You most likely will not see any issues when the lounge is small (6-8 drivers). The real test is how a connection acts when there are 12+ drivers. That's when issues like lag, invisible driver and more frequent DC's start cropping up with GT5.

Couple things to check when you run an internet test in the PS3:
  • NAT 2 (not NAT 3)
  • UPnP Enabled (you will need to enable this in your router if it's not on already)

I think putting your PS3 on the DMZ will work around any problems getting the PS3 to work with your router using UPnP, but if UPnP works as it was designed you won't need DMZ.

Finally run a test at http://speedtest.net when nobody else is using your internet connection at home. That will show you the "potential" of your connection, but realize that's seldom realized in GT5 because you will be connecting to drivers around the globe versus a server close to your location. Select a server from Europe for a second test if you want a better idea how it will work.

California:

France:

Even though those results to France look slow, they are sufficient for GT5. I almost never have issues with the EU race which is normally filled with guys from EU and AU. So if you get anywhere near those results your connection is fine and it's just down to your in-home network configuration

With the OCD just being updated, the Tamora and Tuscan Speed 6 have shown up there.

They weren't previously in the game as standards though.... :odd:

I'm pretty sure it would be drandad's 93 straight.

We don't have a central database of GT3 and GT4 participation, so I'm not completely sure about those. But especially in terms of consecutive, this one would be really touhg to beat.

Insane record :dunce:
I'm sometimes suprised how much time people invest in this WRS, I do the best I can to do the events, but sometimes real life just kicks in.

Is GTP_Striker actually part of the GTP Registry? His Twitter account got hacked and it keeps DM'ing malware links.

NO. You can search the official registry here: Official GTP_Registry.

We have no control over anyone who wants to create a PSN ID with a GTP tag. The only way to know if someone is on our registry is to check the official list linked above.

I looked through it before i posted my comment. I couldn't figure out how to sort it alphabetically. ;)

Just open the thread and do a search with your web browser as the entire registry is shown on page 1. In the google chrome browser it's just "Ctrl-F" and then you type in 'Striker' or any other name and you'll see there are no matches. I'm sure it's the same in IE or any other browser, unless you are using the iphone in which case I don't believe there is a page search feature and you're out of luck. :sly:

PS> If there is a page search feature in the iphone browser (safari) I'd like to know about it because I've wanted to use it several times.

Yep, I'm on the GTPlanet app, and it's limitations. All I could do was a general search for user GTP_Striker. Which is not listed as a GTPlanet registered member. Using a mobile browser (Chrome, Opera, or even crappy Safari) and then switching to the desktop theme, would access broader search functions.

Side note: Chrome for iPhone is a wonderful browser! Too bad crApple won't allow is to set it as the default browser. In particular, m.youtube.com stays in Chrome and does not force the lame app to launch like Safari does.

mohitraina91

That links to google.com, useless for this search situation.

The Chrome App, interestingly enough, has "Find in Page" on the menu up the top right.

I rather thought a google search string like "GTP_Striker site:wrs.gtplanet.net" would work, but it helpfully brings up a nonexistent record instead.

I have read an article about the PS3 Hardware (PlayStation 3 Slim Teardown) some time ago. One of the things I remembered was that the PS3 slim has a universal power supply (100-240V, 50/60Hz) although the sticker on the PS3 case states otherwise.

I did some more searching and found this site: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Power_Supply

There is no need to sell your PS3 and buy a new one as long you don't have a very old PS3 model.

Just for completeness if anyone else is moving from a 240v to 120v region, the above is true and I'm still running my PS3 from Australia without issue

Figured I'd check in. It's been a while since I've even looked in this forum. I'm now in my fifth week of college this semester and I'm in almost full time this semester. Between the hours in class/lab and doing homework, I've had nearly zero competition time. Now that I've finally gotten into a routine, I hope to be able to start competing again soon.

What do you suppose pd means when they say "adjusted changes in control characteristics when altering vehicle height from standard" ?

Does that mean the front and rear suspension settings won't be reversed anymore?

Also wondering if the increased wind resistance will affect top speed. If so it may cause some varying strategies, will you opt for more top end, or better cornering. That could make for even more interesting TT's.

We are betting that your guesses are the correct ones, but like all updates only time will tell.
I really hope the downforce changes work as you have posted. With the F1 event right around the corner it could make the race that much better if there are extra variables thrown in 👍

Since the car used in the qualifier has a wing, I wonder whether that could change things a bit...

We can't adjust anything but brake balance in the qualifier?? That's what I thought at least.

That's right, Wes, but Daniel is concerned that the times for the Qualifier will drop as a result, if the drag coefficient for the fixed wing on that SLS is changed underneath. It's a valid concern, and a good catch - it should be testable, though (in terms of reachable top speed).

Oh right, thanks for explaining Ren.👍

We can all help by noting maximum speed in several places.

Did I miss something? I have'nt had an update, and can't find this statement anywhere in my version or on the official website.
