Thanks for the lesson from watching your replay. I can't believe all the times you're not giving gas or brake—just engine braking. I always go immediately from braking to giving gas, or gas to brake. Is engine braking into/through corners a common tactic for the fastest guys?

I don't know, ask them! :dopey:

But seriously it depends. In this combo, it was particularly efficient, maybe because the car had a lot of grip, I don't know. What I know though is that yes the engine-braking was really helpful since the speed was conserved all the way through the corner and with the large amount of grip that the car gained when giving gas, it was possible to go really fast on the exits too.

Went from 58th last week to 17th. Quite happy with that improvement. Now I know I can mingle with the other D1 folk*.

*Disclamer - lapi is a driving robot and therfore doesn't count. :sly:

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Holland says he does nothing but all on or off both brake and gas, but learning to go into a corner with that extra speed changes everything. It comes down to learning what speed you can handle, combined with what the car will allow, and then maximizing every corner, every time, without one single delay to input as far as what maintains the maximum momentum for that combo. The aliens pick a number for a corner, and don't drop below it. Ever. They always hit that speed. That's the key. You enter at 100 and exit at 120 for speed, while they enter at 102, and exit that same corner at 125. It's not magic, just technique, and they have it. Some of us learn it, most of us don't. You can blame the game, but that's why we race. Same game. They are always faster, combo be damned.

Could I also get some feedback with week 2 please? I actually shaved off .500 my final time but after I double checked. I totally hopped the first turn to correct and then yeah. But I thought Littlelefty would of submitted his quick time. Congrats to everyone again!

Wow! Some seriously fast times, I might have to download some of those alien ones and check out how it's done

Congrats to all who entered

I enjoyed this combo very much!

Do any of you oldschool GTP members have original combo videos (first ever WRS)?

To GTP_Grinols: Don't forget to save the ghost replay instead of the replay. ;)

Lol, it all worked out. It annoyed me that I did it wrong, so I stopped caring or trying. Then crammed it in at the end, only spending 20 minutes or so. Less time & effort, still a passing grade; It's like high school all over again! :dopey:

I'm gunna have to download lapierre4's replay so I can try to learn. I have a feeling it's got a lot to do with using manual transmission. /sigh :(

Congrats to all division winners:)

Nice combo I really enjoyed it:tup:

thought LittleLefty would submit his brilliant time?!

For the handicapped results does the 8 in the first 20 mean it is tough competition in Div 4:dopey:

Congrats to lapierre4, and all the other division winners.
Great to see a Canadian at the top!

I'm actually quite happy with my result this week considering how much (little) time I put in on this one.

Maybe I'll download some replays from this week to do some learning; that is the point of the WRS isn't it? 👍

Thanks, the french quebequer appreciated this :sly:

And EG, maybe LittleLefty noticed that he hitted a wall or something like that and couldn't submit because of that? Because otherwise I admit it's strange...

Congrats to all podiums in general and lapierre4 in particular. You owned this week.

I'm very happy with almost matching my handicap.

Wow, some amazing times at the top. On a perfect run I can maybe see that I left a whole second out there, so to be two whole seconds behind the winner is a bit awe inspiring.

Mixed feelings about my result as although I'm happy with my placement in my division and overall, to be so close to a podium slot and know that I left time out on the track is very frustrating, but I guess it's the same for everyone. I need to work on my consistency so that I can turn my fast sector times into consistent clean laps.

I've attached my PAL replay, but am slightly worried about how close to the wall I am in the final straight. I spent a good 5 minutes checking it over and over again in photo mode and could always see daylight, and no noticeable drop in speed. However, I didn't know about the data logger, so someone may want to triple check it. I'm happy to be corrected.

Thanks to all the admins as always.

Firstly congrats to Lapierre4 for an outstanding time and the overall win!

Well done to GTP_EvoGT89, GTP_Grinols, GTP_Shigegaki and GTP_GTLEAGUEOZ for your respective Division wins!!

Not to be forgotten are GTP_JoshMuggo, GTP_Zoky_CRO, GTP_osrg, GTP_Vagabond, GTP_cairnz, GTP_Andy2125, GTP_Whiblah, GTP_Munch , GTP_G3O_Hellas and GTP_Arcturus for their podium places!

Very tough week this one and I'm happy I made the top 10!!

I find with GT5's tyre model its faster to "coast" into the corners to set the car up for the exit. I find I'm able to carry a higher apex speed while using the tyre scrubbing to wash off the excess speed. Trail braking appears slower and overheats the tyre which results in slower apex speed and makes it harder to get back on the power. That is just from my experience, I'm only 9th and not 1st so maybe in wrong too

GTP_EvoGT89, what happened in the last sector? you lost almost half a second in 3 corners?

I verified some replays 👍, Now I figured I will provide some feedback, take nothing personally just my thoughts on the lap 👍.

Very nice lap mate 👍. If I was to be very picky I would say you lost a bit of time in the last chicane, a little late back on the power which cost you exit speed. Frankly, its extremely easy to do and its a bitch of a corner to get right anyway, especially when ahead of your ghost .

Keep up that level of driving and you will be D1 in no time

Nice lap 👍

My little advice.
A little too sideways after turn 2 which cost you some momentum heading up the hill. I also think a few changes with your gear selections might return more consistent results. 3rd gear after T1 (not 2nd) for example, and selecting 4th earlier for the power onto the back straight. I found when using 3rd onto the back straight the car wanted to go sideways costing me time, plus it was far to easy to over rev the car and loose time upshifting to 4th.

I also think you cost yourself a little time braking for the last chicane, I found it much nicer to just simply roll off the throttle and turn in, then power through the turn. Its far too easy to scrub off too much speed and loose your revs by braking. In GT5 I try to get away with lift off throttle in those type of situations as its far easier to be consistent and keep your apex speed high.

Overall though it was a nice lap with solid lines 👍

Its too close for me to call, but since I watched it, I will give you my feedback on the lap.

I think you need to make sure your staying within the power band of the car, a few times you needed to downshift (first corners 5th, corner after back straight 3rd and last chicane 5th) and other times you took a little long to upshift (heading onto the back straight). Try to focus on getting your lines right. Outside / apex / outside, maximizing the track useage which in turn allows you to keep your speeds higher. Lines and car placement can make a big difference in your lap time even if your not braking or cornering at the limit. I try to figure out the lines first, then try to drive those lines fast, you dont want to be overdriving the car and ending up offline. A good example was when you ran a little wide in the tunnel turn before T1 which put you far too wide for that right hander afterwards and you had to slow down a lot and change to 2nd in order to make it which cost you a lot of time. Being a bit later on the power through the tunnel in order to get the car further left might have cost you .1 but that was a lot less then finding yourself offline at exit and needing to slow down and drop to 2nd.

Overall its a very tough combo and you did well to get the car around the track, Just try to focus on lines first, then driving fast 👍

Checked:

Good lap , you could have been more on the accelerator thought. 👍

Next time when you rename the zip file , please do it after zipping.

MadMax

Cheers for checking and cheers for the advice, all tips very welcome.

Will be checking some of the faster laps for extra clues to the really fast times.

To be honest I drove the lap a lot better in segments, but could never quite get it all together in one clean lap. The first tunnel was a good example, and I took that much better quite a few times, but would ultimately then make a mistake further on in the lap.

I also know that my lines through all of the corners after the back straight weren't great, but I was being deliberately over cautious in order to ensure that I got a clean lap down as I was running out of time. I felt that I lost at least half a second (combined) through the last 3 corners before the final chicane.

Interesting note on the gear shifts though, and to be honest that's the part that I'm still learning the most after switching from running AT on a DS3 in previous GTs to MT with a G27.

It's a learning curve though, but I definitely feel that I'm becoming a better driver due to WRS. I really need to work on being consistently fast now though, as I feel that I'm too on the edge at the moment and so am only putting in one clean lap in 20. Unfortunately though, with only 2- 4 hours a week playing time it's difficult to build that consistency.

Any tips on how to make a wife more GT friendly? :boggled:

Any tips on how to make a wife more GT friendly? :boggled:

No problems 👍

Stick to it and its always a work in progress, the great thing about WRS is we have so many people to learn from and improve. Hopefully I can pickup a few tips from my fellow countryman Josh

and I have nothing for the Wife issue . Ask Ron (Mr P), his wife (Kelly) plays GT5 and is damn fast too 👍.

I know it's probably been asked, but is it possible what we could have like a thread, or a post that explains all the statistic parts of the results?

1---1'19.464---GTP_lapierre4 r=0.994 (d1/-0.381)

>> Division 1: Par: 1'19.470 Gold: 1'19.822 Silver: 1'20.174 Bronze: 1'20.527

(Settings: Weight = 1.000 Squeeze = 1.455 Scoot = -0.039)

And such how the handicap is worked out, thanks. :)

I only have 1 problem... for some reason you guys posted my time to be 1'26.345, when i posted my time to be 1'24.079.

Congrats to the podium winners! I hope my issue with FetchBot gets resolved or the mods will have to manually enter my submission time. If a name change is needed I would be happy to if that would solve the problem.

Firstly congrats to Lapierre4 for an outstanding time and the overall win!

More congrats to all other Div. winners & podium placings. 👍

I felt like I really struggled this week, but judging from my results, I ended up par with my handicap, which is a bit :odd:

Congrats to the winners and podiumers, some really quick laps up there. Feel I'm getting closer to D1S times with the G27.

I see some D2ers on the cusp of D1.👍

Also, I was quicker than Animera in the final sector, albeit by 8 thousandths, but that's a massive victory. The final sector is really good fun in that car, throttle on nice and early in the left hander then it's squeaky bum time through the final chicane.

Off to have a watch of Rudi's lap.
