^AH...I see that now. I was a bit cornfused because FK doesn't have you on the list but you do show up on the website. We need to get the pendings to actually sign up because it looks like we really only have TWO spots left?!?!

Good luck with the season and I hope the injury bug bites you right in the...nooo I don't really mean that. Er...yes I do.

Updated,

And I am assuming that VashTheStampede is The STDs?

Danoff?

OK, guys we need to get into discussing a draft date.

The date that is currently in there was just me tossing one in to fill out the league profile and avoid getting annoying reminder emails telling me that I need to do it.

The only date I know 100% I cannot do is August 31st. I will be at a college football game that day.

The only date so far I cannot do is August 15th. It's the same golf tournament that made me miss last years. Even so with the auto draft it wouldn't be a problem if that day is good for every one.

In general, would it be better to have the draft as late as you could to really find out how healthy the players are coming in to the season?

I get home from work by 4PM EST so after that is good, me being home on Saturday is hit or miss but I'm typically around on Sunday. I start classes after Labour Day but I have no idea what my schedule is like off the top of my head.

This season looks to be a great time. I look forward to the challange of more teams and less healthy players.

I've gotten hooked up with a yahoo league with my motorcycle forum friends and soon to be signed up with the other skyscraper geeks.

3 leagues = busy sundays this fall.

Signed up as "Mighty Turduckens". I don't really care when the draft occurs. Closer to start of regular season is better. If it's during the week, I prefer after 6pm PDT.

You will now truly know the experience of cheering and booing a player all at the same time. And then if you are a fan of a team (I''m assuming Broncos?) you get the added stress of hoping a specific player on the opposing team does well, but that everything else they do falls apart. Or cheering on your team, but hoping that their star will sputter that week.

For example: I am a Rams fan and have often been in a situation where I am cheering for the touchdown (rare as they are) but then asking why Holt always gets the pass.

Anyway, the NFL schedule has the last preseason game on August 28th and the first regular season game on September 4th.
http://www.nfl.com/schedules?seasonType=REG&season=2008#Week

So, do we want to wait until after the last preseason game?

Looking at Yahoo! September 1st is the last possible date as scoring officially begins on September 2nd. Apparently scores are done by week, so the first week begins on September 2nd.

Because we cover such a huge time zone difference anything mid-week would almost have to be 10PM ET/7PM PT or later. I am wondering if August 30th or September 1st might not be a bad weekend so that the east coasters won't be up too late.

And here are the settings we currently have:

Does anyone see changes that they want to make?

Most common rule discussions involve roster, points, max trades, max acquisitions, max waivers, and trade deadlines.

If anyone thinks we should make changes let me know.

One thing I just realized can be changed is that no-drafted players can either be dealt with using real-life waiver rules or just set up as free agents.

Anyway, let me know if anyone has any thoughts on changes and dates. All this needs to be set before the start of the season. Even the things that can be changed mid-season I refuse to adjust because they can have both positive and negative effects on people and I don't want anyone to feel mistreated by midseason changes. I've been in a league that had rules change frequently to attempt to improve things and it just led to fighting. So, I don't do it.

Once the rules are set plan accordingly, because they won't change.

A Broncos win will always come before a FFL win. I know I will be torn week after week.

So, do we want to wait until after the last preseason game?

I don't think there will be a need to do that. How many starters are actually going to play in the last game anyway? I will put in my first official vote to make the current day, August 29th at 11e-8p permanent.

Does anyone see changes that they want to make?

The only rule that I wish we would have had last year is for return yards to count. As good as Adrian Peterson was for me last year it could have been better, same goes for Wes Welker. I don't really care if that is changed for this season but you asked so I thought I'd mention it.

I hated the fact that I couldn't get rid of Donovan McNabb or Vince Young until what ever week it was set to.

That may work for me. The commisioner in my other league can't do that date, so that prevents any league conflicts for me.

The only thing I can see with that day is that my wife has her first official pre-natal appointment that afternoon. That shouldn't be a problem unless we get some bad news, which I have no reason to suspect. In that event I will let the system auto-draft for me.

Which return yards?

Offensive kick and punt return yards?
Defense return yards?

If we do kick and punt return yards then I think we should also add negative points on defense for kick and punt touchdowns.

Yeah, that's the can't cut list. I can turn that off if anyone else agrees. It is there to prevent people who are so far gone that they give up from dropping their stars and changing how the rest of the league plays.

I trust everyone here to not pull something like that, so I see no problem with turning can't-cut off. Actually it is just a choice to use Yahoo or None as the list provider. I assume None means no can't-cut list.

Is there an auto draft in case some of us can not make the date?

Yes, just make sure that you have your pre-draft player list sorted by preference and it will pick the next available from your list when your turn comes around.

I wish it was bit more detailed, like you being able to say what position you want picked in each round, like:

Round 1: Kicker
Round 2: Defense

But, no, it is just a preferred order list.

EDIT: You can of course make adjustments afterward with the undrafted players.

Those, I don't want to open a can of worms so just leave it as it was last year.

I'm just gripping because I would have never drafted those two anyway. I'll just learn my lesson and make sure I set up MY autodraft better this time.

Looks like a lot of roster positions for 12 teams. I play in another league where there are 12 teams and there are only 2 wideouts, 1 rb, and a flex position - even then good players are hard to come by. I recommend eliminating 1 WR position.

Alright, thanks. I just wanted to make sure since I have an odd schedule from time to time. I will make an effort though to be part of the live draft if I can.

Yeah, I figured that this would be one thing that would definitely need to change since we have more teams.

I would also be ok with only two wideouts.

Oh yeah, In one of my other leagues which we are currently shooting for 16 teams they want to do this...

Roster Positions: QB, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/T, W/R, K, DEF, D, D, DB, DB, DL, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

 I've got to get them to change it

How does that work?

Picking a defense AND defensive players?

Instead of eliminating a wide receiver position, change the number of players on each team. Change it to only 15 roster spots, thus having two less bench players. If we were to pick up two more teams, thus making twelve teams in the league, the free agent list would be extremely bare with 17 players on each roster. I have always liked the three wide receivers on the starting lineup. Something to think about, which I have never actually tried, is making that third wide receiver spot a flex running back/wide receiver spot. I would prefer to see either of the above options instead of eliminating a starting position.

One other thing I noticed is that passing touchdowns only count for four points. That rule last year seemed a bit odd because I have always played where they count for six.

I also noticed interceptions only count for negative one point. Negative two points seems a bit more appropriate considering a lost fumble is negative two points.

I definitely agree on the -2 for interceptions, I feel that an interception is a big enough game changer that it deserves more than one point taken off for it.

I also agree on the 6 for TDs too, every league I have been in has done it that way.
I guess I agree on every suggestion, because I also think that three receivers is a bit much in such a large league. I love having the RB/WR option instead of the third receiver.

I didn't even notice the discrepancy of the interception penalty from the lost fumble penalty. I agree that -2 would be better. It makes basically any turnover -2 points.

While I didn't think about it this year, I do remember last year that the 4 point TD seemed odd.

I like both of these changes if no one has any disagreements.

I like making the third WR a flex spot too. But do we want it to be WR/RB or WR/TE? Both happen in real life. From a fun standpoint I prefer the WR/RB option, but the WR/TE spot makes you have to think more because you may find an underperforming WR is performing worse than a successful TE.

As for the bench number, last year I had it like that to have one back up for any position, but if we make a flex spot then that eliminates any need for that. Also, as we have more teams we do need to reduce the total players. My other league had a total of 16 spots one year and the last few rounds of the draft we were basically flipping coins and picking names that sounded cool because they were guys no one had ever heard of.

So, I completely agree on lower it to six bench spots, especially if we go with a flex position.

I up for any rule changes you guys think need to be made for our league. Most of you would know better anyway, so I would trust you to make the appropriate decisions.
