[*]Willie Parker - RB
Willie who?
You won't be disappointed.
[*]Joseph Addai - RB
eh...so so. If Manning is on, how is Addai going to put up good numbers?
A passing game only works if you have a threatening running game. Addai was extremely valuable last year.
[*]Jeremy Shockey - TE
Not bad...wasn't he getting up there in years?
There are few tight ends that I call a true threat. This is one of them. Don't forget this is the man who lost his helmet and took three more hits before going down last year. Too bad we don't award badass points. He is one tough guy. Plus, Eli is not quite his brother and Shockey sees a lot of short passes as Eli tries desparately to save himself.
[*]Chicago - DEF
WOOO HOOO!!! If defense in this league is important I am very stoked about this pick. Thanks YAHOO! 👍
A strong defense can sometimes make up for points a weak offensive player failed to put up.
[*]Vince Young - QB
I am ready to start Young over McNabb. I was hoping to pick up Young anyway. I think he is going to have a breakout season.
Yeah, this would be a toss up for me as well. It may take a couple of games to determine who is best. If Young breaks out he will be the obvious starter, but when McNabb is on he is priceless.
[*]Chris Cooley - TE
#2 on my TE list. 👍
He was my backup last year and was great when he got the ball. Again, when he got the ball. Some games he brought in lots of points and others he got me nothing. His performance will be determined by the rest of his offense.
[*]Robbie Gould - K
Still just a kicker. Nobody likes the kickers anyway.
Just a lonely kicker, eh? "They're going for two"
(Adam Sandler reference). Gould started as my backup last year but quickly became my starter as Chicago couldn't get it in the end zone. They always got in field goal range and Gould would kick about five times a game, rarely missing. As he isn't with Chicago this year his value is yet to be determined.
[*]Pittsburgh - DEF
You better show up on the Chicago off week
This is a nice backup to have.
Give me some time to review the competition and I might make a few small changes but for the most part I am happy. As Danoff mentioned I do have some risk in front of me. But maybe like the stock market goes, High risk can equal high return. I have my fingers crossed.
As is always the case in football it takes a couple of games to determine the best. You can always count on a few solid teams but invariably a large number of playoff, and even Super Bowl, teams struggle the next year (Pittsburgh).
My draft is usually made based on research and gut decisions, but at least two players get switched out after the first two weeks. And of course, deciding who should play will determine who they play against. Many times I have switched out QBs because they were up against a blitz happy defense.
I also suggest reading Tuesday Morning Quarterback on ESPN.com. It has proven invaluable to me. When Gregg Easterbrook stays on topic he throws out a ton of common sense wisdom and stats, such as kick early, go for it late. When I see a coach punting with two minutes left while down by three on 4th and 1 I scream. Which also points out the fact that a coach can ruin or exault your fantasy team.
And that brings about my biggest wild card this year. How many coaching changes have there been this year? It seemed like coaches were being fired minutes after their last game last year, even with a winning record. So, many strategies will be changing and other coaches will hedge their bets at taking a loss without risk rather than trying to win on a risky last hope attempt. Sometimes those risky plays can lead to big plays, and big fantasy points.
And nothing will kill you more than watching a team take a knee, robbing you of the two points needed to win your fantasy game.
The only bonus to the fantasy vs real game is that players are watching their fantasy points to judge themselves. So, expect to see some attempt to make plays that will garner high fantasy value.
