GTPlanet Stock Car Challenge

I'll make a run tonight....I couldn't do jack last week with the 190...I was 10 secs off the pace. The Green Grass at Sonoma must have been messing with my mind. LOL

So after a dozen plus laps today I was able to improve my time but still far from achieving my goal of staying within five seconds of the fastest time. I could only manage to pull a measly 2:26.778. My main problem continues to be those descending esses (leading to the hairpin). I've been able to match Vic's ghost up until there and then after that he just disappears. I tried watching your replays but comparing it just looks like I'm doing everything wrong so there's too much to correct, I don't know where to begin fixing my mistakes. I think I will just leave it there and maybe try to learn the track on a slower car, maybe that will help in the long run.

Managed to get my time down to 2:23.873
I was able to get ahead of Im_Lukas ghost many times but would lose any lead I had going into the downhill esses after the esses I would be way behind 1.5 to 2 seconds and half my laps would dirty fun combo but very frustrating

Week 6 Standings
Sutuki 2:20.852
Im_Lukas 2:21.983
ImaRobot 2:23.459
Blue028 2:23.701
VICGT1970 2:23.873
Fat Tyre 2:26.778

Looks like Sutuki won this week

Alright I hadn't realized we'd lost two nights already. Sorry, I don't know what to choose, I thought first of picking the
Nissan #75 Cunningham Racing 300ZX but it's a DLC car and I'm not sure if everyone has it. I'll go with the 2006 #007 Aston Martin Racing DBR9 at Catalunya GP. I guess you guys won't find it very challenging but I just love that track.

Also if Sutuki sees this and wants to override this and pick something else it's all good 👍.

Well I took a quick couple of laps earlier on Fat Tyres combo while my friend was away eating and managed to pull off a 1:48.146. This is a very fun combo and although the car is easy to drive, once you start to push it can kick out quite suddenly.

I guess you guys won't find it very challenging but I just love that track.

The challenge here is to go as fast as possible, so if people don't find a combo challenging then there is still plenty more time left to find. :sly:

Also I used to hate this track but one of my friends loves this and makes us race it all the time, now it's one of my favourites. :)

I'll just tag @Sutuki here in case he had another combo in mind, in which case disregard my time in this post.

I had my first run today, been pretty busy with work and now also got a flu so I hadn't touched the game since the Bathurst run. First flying lap was around 1:54.xxx and after a dozen laps or so I got it down to a 1:50.1xx. Hopefully I'll be able to run a bit more tomorrow since I think I'll call in sick but there's also the problem that I'm feeling tired like to be using the wheel and I'm absolutely rubbish with a pad.

One question though are we meant to be using sim damage? I realized when I did that 1:50.1xx that I had it on and had 2% damage on the engine, Is iit possible to gain aan advantage by having it off? You know as in being able to push the car harder and not suffer any consequences?

It's hard to say if it's an advantage or not, but I suppose it can seem like it. When you run with damage off, you're able to run lap after lap without wear, and you'll be able to perform your best through each lap as your car will be at 100% at all times. After a while, if you have damage on, you'll get slower little by little due to wear to the tires, engine, transmission, or things like that. I hotlap with it off now.

Yes, that's what I thought although the only thing is that if weight is actually simulated then you could perhaps gain an advantage as well (?). I mean, let's say you're running damage on and you are careful so your engine and transmission is fine but you end up with only 10% of fuel in the tank the car should be lighter and be able to run faster, yet if you run with damage off the tank is always full thus you always end up carrying the same amount of fuel and weight. Is that right?

By the way new time 1:49.294 I'm pretty happy with that, if I get to the 1:48.xxx I'll be ecstatic.

I've always wondered if gas tank weight is factored into the equation, but the amount of time it usually takes for the tank to run low, my tires where usually pretty depleted so it was hard to figure out if there was any advantage/disadvantage. In my opinion, I do not think it is factored in.

Just ran a 1:47.360, racing against your own ghost is so useful. It really helps when experimenting with different lines as it gives you immediate feedback on whether you're gaining or losing time. Also racing with @VICGT1970 's ghost helped me find a better line through that first 3 corner complex.

My take on whether sim damage could be an advantage/disadvantage is that the very fast guys I talk to have damage turned off when they set their fastest laps, so at best I reckon sim damage could be equal to having damage off, as if it provided an advantage they would likely use it. However even if you were to keep everything in perfect condition before you started your fast lap, I think given the small amounts of tyre wear, brakes, engine, transmission damage that you would receive during the lap, it would slow you down slightly.

I managed to get my time down to 1:47.213 just edging out Im_Lukas for now

 Wow that's an amazing time! You know I was using your ghost yesterday and up until turn 13 I think I was maybe 8 tenths behind. I was awful going through that last chicane and I lost the car several times trying to get through the last turn as well, you navigated through that slow sector beautifully. From then on I lost an extra second, in those last three turns.

How do you approach those "slow" sectors? I mean there you have three consecutive turns (t14, 15 and 16) and one mistake on the first one carries onto the next and so on. Reminds me of the sector I was having loads of problems with at Bathurst.

Congrats on the week 7 win Vic. If every other game is anything to go by, I am going to be terrible around Monza, but I do love the LFA. Not so much time for me to run this week unfortunately.

It seems to be the case that I'm slightly better in the slower cars, which is odd, as 90% of my racing is done in S class .

I tried a handful of laps a couple of days ago and I think I nearly got to the 2:00.xxx mark, I'm still feeling sick so I haven't felt like sitting on my rig :ill: it sounds stupid but when you are sick fighting with the FFB it feels like a workout. I'll see how I feel tomorrow, I did have problems with Xbox Live that day though and I couldn't load any ghosts which made it hard, I think I should be able to cut an extra second if I follow one of you guys.
