I wasn't actually 'playing' but I Whammed! myself. For some reason I didn't want to hear the YouTube video so I looked for it on iTunes to know what the song is.

So I went back to the mall one last time, and had a scary moment. I heard the intro to the song, and I thought all had been for nought, but a woman started singing and I did a little fist pump.
:yuck:

:P

Ya know what, who cares if I have been Whammed!?

Next year, i'll be back.

In fact, the battle was lost, but the war has just begun. And I won't just be back, i'll be ready, iPod and all. Wham!, you just won a single lone battle. Next year, I will fight you and this song everywhere. I shall fight on the beaches, I shall fight on the landing grounds, I shall fight in the fields and in the streets, I shall fight in the hills; I shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this forum or a large part of it were subjugated and Whammed!, then our members beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the GTP Premium members, would carry on the struggle.

I've not heard Wham! for a few days now. Normally I can tell when I've recently heard either Wham!, One Direction or Rebecca Black, due to severe ear ache.

Been whamed today at work, as for now I am working in retail, IT HAD TO HAPPEN.

This is pretty much how my reaction was:

Whammed another 3 times in the last week. Just surprised that not one of them occurred on Saturday! Total of 6 times now so far I believe

Well, I got whammed last night. The club I was at started playing a load of Christmas tracks, but none of them were "Last Christmas" thankfully. Then an hour later it started playing without warning.

Hey, at least I don't have to be so wary about trying to avoid it any more.

I'm scared I'm at the dentist and they're playing christmas music.

Edit- Made it out fine. Only heard one song which was by the Beatles. Still alive.

Went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Paris yesterday. Was afraid I might get whammed but made it out safe and sound.

OMFG! I came extremely close to being Whammed! just less than a minute ago...

Basically, it suddenly came in the radio. There was no announcer around so it just suddenly started, but even though I haven't heard the song in a year, I just recognized the intro and knew what to do. Now I'm listening to Cutting Crew... the real 80's music :dopey:

You were Whammed!, if you hear any part of the song at all, you're out.

Well, I'm not sure how it goes... the OP says "If you hear the intro, then you're in a sticky situation. Continue to hear it and it might be a cover, or your worst nightmare (i.e. Wham!)" which sort of hints that if I hear the intro, I would still be on safe ground but would need to either shut it off immediately or take the risk and see if it's a cover after all.

Good question. I think if it is a cover, you should at least distinguish. If the vocals comes in and sounds exactly like it, you have a second to turn it off or you're Whammed! But you have to talk to the OP.

No. It says stick around no matter what to see if it's the original. Therefor, you don't end up running away thinking you've been Whammed! when it was just a cover, or vice versa. The ultimate goal is to get to 2012 without hearing the song at all, you heard it, you're out!

But he's saying how to distinguish between a cover song and the original song without risking being Whammed!

My whole point has been missed. If you hear ANY part of the song AT ALL, you lose. There's no need to try to escape if you've already lost. The only way to stay safe is to not hear it.

You don't. If you hear it, you hear it. If it's a cover you're good. If not then you lost.

@ Both Quotes
Well, what I meant is if a song is a cover, but you don't know for sure. But the song can also be the original one. But either way, you're Whammed!, right?

If you don't know for sure stick around like the OP says to make sure you're not Whammed! And no, only the original song will Wham! you, unless you're playing the Hardcore way.

If you hear the intro, but you aren't sure if it's Wham's or not then stay to find out. It won't be fair to run away from the song assuming that it's a cover because it might've been the real deal - therefore you'd have heard it.

@ Carbonox.. you sure that the song you heard was the original? Because if it doesn't sound like the original, it could've been a cover 👍

@ SVX if you just wanted to hear the song for the first time then it's not really a Wham! because you don't know what it sounded like.

Almost got Whammed! today from an email link but I recognized the YouTube code before I clicked it. I might not make it.

Close call AGAIN at school today. Wow. So we have a 5 min warning bell before class starts and in between those 2 bells, they play music. All I heard today was "Last christmas.." and me sating "fFFUU...wait its only a cover!!! YEEAAHH"
