GTSPORT Takesound #1 in sales.

If you sell more than FIFA in the UK , then you're selling A LOT.

For real. I'm genuinely shocked at this, considering FIFA 18 has only just come out as well.

So do the GTS figures not include digital download? Does anyone know what the figure is including this?

I predict a heavy drop in sales after a few months. That is because new players would have already missed out most of the online seasonal features (like the fia championship) and the game and save requires the servers. That means, that if you buy the game a year after, it is one less year of life for GTS and less a year you can play it. (PD kept GT5 servers for about 5-6 years and I'm praying that they keep the GT6 servers running)

Also, it makes me sad that this game format is being so well-received. I hoped for a massive flop, so that PD would open their eyes and would do things properly next time (for example, I don't mind having 150, but I do mind having all those VGTs and same type of race car). But guess, it's only me.

So you wanted GT Sport to flop in the hope PD would make a game more to your liking? If everyone thought like you and this game bombed the studio would've most likely closed and then where's the game you would've liked? Nowhere. Don't worry about people like myself who have actually purchased and enjoy the game as you want it to crash and burn on us, not cool at all. GT Sport is a packed in title or a PS4 bundled game meaning when a new PS4 is purchased another title is sold, it's going to be in everyone hands whether they like it or not and come Christmas PS4 bundles will fly off the shelf anyway, it's one of those titles that will not fail.

FIFA 18 was at number one for the previous three weeks mate.

No data on downloads is available as Sony don't release that data.

Yes yes, we should support whatever a studio releases so they keep developing. Good logic, will definitely keep quality outcomes

Also, it's been four years since GT6, it's been two for Forza, I would expect GT to sell much more, esp as first current gen console release and with PS4 outselling XB1 by a bit.

Happy for PD and the game but surprised myself about the record release sales, especially coming after Pcars2.
I guess a lot of GT fans, like myself, were just anxious for finally a release of the game on PS4 and intended to buy regardless.

That is crazy as hell. PD should definitely be celebrating.

  1. Gran Turismo Sport
  2. FIFA 18
  3. South Park: The Fractured But Whole
  4. WWE 2K18
  5. Middle-earth: Shadow of War
  6. The Evil Within 2
  7. Destiny 2
  8. Grand Theft Auto V
  9. Forza Motorsport 7
  10. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy

"and also outperformed late PlayStation 3 arrival Gran Turismo 6"

Before I doubted PD Could recover after GT6... I stand very corrected. So Congratulations to Polyphony Digital and kazunori.
I want to know how many will be returned because Joe public didn't get what they were expecting?

Well I'm very surprised considering how much more amazing Forza 7 is than GT Sport. I'm actually shocked. Let's hope those at PD can slowly create a gem of a game through car and track DLC and solid updates.

Could've just edited the first thread instead of making another, but I'll let staff handle that.

I'm not surprised it outsold F7, but I'm surprised it was 3 times. That's pretty remarkable, and the fact it doesn't take digital sales is even more of a positive.

Forza is a Microsoft Xbox exclusive. It's not on PC.

Aren't there double as much PS4's sold as XBox One's as well? And before you mention PC - Forza on PC is a joke, several months after FH3 was released I checked on the opening race how many people set a score on the scoreboard on XBox vs PC, I believe 93% was XBox or something, only 7% was PC.

I bought PCars 2, Forza 7 and GTS. Actually the most amazing game is GTS. I love the other two games but nothing comes close to racing against Human competition. The Online part of GTS is so addicting, it's already a gem of a game.

If nothing comes close to racing against Human competition, why don't you race project Cars 2 online? I've got some vacancies in my Monday series for clean drivers, but the Wednesday series is over subscribed.

I'm not at all surprised that GTS has sold well in the first week compared with GT6 in its first week because it has been heavily advertised in the UK - there are GTS posters at virtually every bus stop - I can't drive through my local town without seeing GTS posters every few yards! GT6 launched very quietly with almost no advertising, but it continued to sell steadily for a long period.

The adverts don't give any hint regarding the lack of content in GTS compared with recent editions of the game so I expect a lot of copies will be traded in quite quickly for other games by the more casual players who might have been expecting more for their money.

Somewhat surprised that it only sold a fraction of GT5 in the first week despite a much bigger install base.

I usually don't have time when my friends play but with GTS I can find a decent race with drivers of equal skillevel whenever I want. I would love to have a similar matchmaking system in PCars 2 or Forza.

GT is way more popular than Forza in Europe.

Because you can't find decent races at any time of day everyday.

I have PC2 and AC too.

There is a whole world of online clubs and leagues open to GT Planet members which has been there to enjoy since GT5 days - hopefully GTS with its emphasis on online racing will give people the courage to try online racing in other games - but I recommend it against fellow GT Planet members rather than randoms.

That's about it in a nutshell. Anyway, the "the game I would've liked" is nowhere to be found already.

Am I not cool for not caring about you and everyone who enjoys GTS? Maybe. But are you cool for not caring about me and everyone who doesn't like the changes? See?

It's because people will always buy these big franchises that all my favorite games have been ruined: Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, etc... and now Gran Turismo.

The solution would be: PD can keep doing GTS2, GTS3 and so on, but I'm waiting for my GT7. But yeah right, if GTS becomes highly popular, it will only be dream. I miss the days when games could (also) be enjoyed alone (offline) and were not only about the graphics.

Do you spend a lot of your time looking at pre-owned sections of stores around London ?

I just happened to walk past them when walking from meeting to meeting, you never know what classics you'll find.

Because you can't find decent races at any time of day everyday.

I have PC2 and AC too.

Exactly why I ended up selling PC2, I get no kick out of racing against AI no matter how good they are.

This is very strange, has it always been the case? I never considered anything other than digital. I reckon those sales could dwarf retail... Would be really interesting to find out...

PS4 has sold more worldwide units than Xbox, I'm so not sure why this is a total shock. It's a late AAA title too. With quite a few sitting this game out for now this time around, I'd imagine many "new to GT" players have bought it. Just those factors alone should be enough for a rare Motorsport title to have sufficient momentum.

If you look long and hard at eBay UK used auctions, the sheer amount of ppl selling the game (complaining lack of features/content) shows a clear lack of knowledge for GTS, also suggesting "new to franchise" owners blind purchasing.

Driving games have gotten more popular in GT's absence, so this has helped bring in new people, digitally or otherwise. With only a 2.5 star (or 50% rating from 100% if you prefer) on Amazon UK, sales is just one thing.

GTS is also appearing in new console bundles now, so it should help sales figures/charts. If people aren't keeping the game, and numerous existing fans sit on the fence, there are going to be far less people in lobbies. Far less paid DLC sold, etc. That's something that pure sales doesn't take into account.

In the light of so little other meaningful news for the franchise, we'll have to be happy.

EA estimate downloads will be 40% of sales by the end of this year.

In UK FIFA is almost always on top

It was for the three weeks before this.

Opersite happened to me, tesco didn't have any but asda did
Really happy it's doing so well in the UK!

I tried to buy my copy of the game from a local 24hr 'ASDA' (UK supermarket chain), at 1am on launch day. Although all the billboards/advertisement stuff was on display in the store, there wasn't any cases on the shelf, just place holder cases. I asked the customer service lady and she kindly allowed me to help her check the lockers where they keep all the games by the checkouts. Nothing but a handful of other titles and a vast sea of FIFA 18. :banghead: Turns out the guy responsible for handling the games, finished his shift at 10pm the night before release. Customer service lady told me he was a massive gamer and was herself very surprised he hadn't put any GTS out on the shelves, or in the lockers, (personally I think he's a Forza player ).

Needless to say, after a wasted late night/early morning and dashed hopes, I took my money elsewhere and purchased it from a smaller 'Tesco' (another UK chain), later that morning. I doubt they'll feel it financially but I've vowed never to buy a game from 'ASDA' again!

It will be very interesting to see how Sport fairs the second week. The user reviews on sites like Amazon show a lot of people had no idea the game wasn't the usual CARPG-style GT game. These folks are very likely the minority (people that are satisfied are less likely to say anything), but the word-of-mouth could affect sales after the pre-order surge. The review embargo holding until after the game's release in some markets could be seen as a sign, too.

Also to note that, in terms of top-sellers that focus on online gameplay, most of them have regular updates, either free or paid. If GT Sport is going to follow the GaaS model and stay at the pointy end of the sales charts, it's going to need a steady stream of post-launch support IMO.

As for digital sales: even the most optimistic industry figures suggest 40%. There's no way Sport's digital take rate was double the physical.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: how is GTA V still selling so well?! Not that it's a bad game in the least, but after practically four years of sitting in the top ten, who is still left to buy it?

With a certain Italian former-plumber's adventure releasing this week, it's practically confirmed GT won't be a repeat winner on the UK charts next week. No shame in that though!

All of that said, sales figures don't really mean much to me. GT Sport selling worse than GT5 (in one market, on its first week) doesn't mean GT5 was a better game. Likewise, GT Sport having a stronger opening (and very likely higher lifetime sales) than FM7 or PCARS2 doesn't make it a better game to me, either. The only real affect sales figures have on my gaming experience is offering a higher potential number of online opponents.

...Slightly Mad Studios also took the silver on the debut week of Project CARS 2 last month....Meanwhile, PCARS2 goes from 26th to 38th.

To get the real picture, we'd need to see where GT Sport sales are in a month or so's time. In the UK on Amazon, the majority of buyers have given the game 1 star, which is pretty much the same as the PS4 version of Project CARS 2. Even though GTS pre-orders were high & made the first week sales podium (like PC2), lets see whether people continue to buy the game after all the negative user reviews.
