GTSPORT Takesound #1 in sales.

Folks have been waiting 4+ years for it, of course it will sell.

People read too much into GT Sport sales, especially when they compare it to Forza. That doesn't really reflect anything except 1) GT always had a much larger fan base so will always sell better, regardless of mediocrity, 2) PlayStation has a larger installed base so it should sell better, 3) Forza competes against itself with a new title every year versus GT which gets one every three to five years, and 4) four years into PS4 and this is the first and only GT on the system, whereas Xbox One has five Forzas now.

Don't read too much into the sales figures. They're not representative how how good the product is or how happy people are with it. It simply reflects how many PlayStation 4 owners were glad to finally have a Gran Turismo after all these years. It doesn't mean those people love it or that it's better than its competition.

It will be very interesting to see how Sport fairs the second week. The user reviews on sites like Amazon show a lot of people had no idea the game wasn't the usual CARPG-style GT game. These folks are very likely the minority (people that are satisfied are less likely to say anything), but the word-of-mouth could affect sales after the pre-order surge. The review embargo holding until after the game's release in some markets could be seen as a sign, too.

Also to note that, in terms of top-sellers that focus on online gameplay, most of them have regular updates, either free or paid. If GT Sport is going to follow the GaaS model and stay at the pointy end of the sales charts, it's going to need a steady stream of post-launch support IMO.

As for digital sales: even the most optimistic industry figures suggest 40%. There's no way Sport's digital take rate was double the physical.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: how is GTA V still selling so well?! Not that it's a bad game in the least, but after practically four years of sitting in the top ten, who is still left to buy it?

With a certain Italian former-plumber's adventure releasing this week, it's practically confirmed GT won't be a repeat winner on the UK charts next week. No shame in that though!

All of that said, sales figures don't really mean much to me. GT Sport selling worse than GT5 (in one market, on its first week) doesn't mean GT5 was a better game. Likewise, GT Sport having a stronger opening (and very likely higher lifetime sales) than FM7 or PCARS2 doesn't make it a better game to me, either. The only real affect sales figures have on my gaming experience is offering a higher potential number of online opponents.

GTA had a constant stream of kids that are just getting to the age where their parents are ok with them playing it.

Yes yes, we should support whatever a studio releases so they keep developing. Good logic, will definitely keep quality outcomes

Also, it's been four years since GT6, it's been two for Forza, I would expect GT to sell much more, esp as first current gen console release and with PS4 outselling XB1 by a bit.
That's not quite what I said or meant and the fact that you may wish a game bomb in the hopes the next time it will be better is the stuff of fairytales , all I've done was to mention the reality of any company being closed down, it's business and that's how it works not bomb and fail only to produce something better.

Putting everything to one side I looked at my Project Cars 2 stats and it shows that I prefer online compared to offline racing, so when it comes to GT Sport that's just how it is and you can always play Forza 7 as an alternative. :)

It's funny and sad at the same time that so many fans bought it, without reading news/reviews about it first, expecting it will be just like the game they played 15-20 years ago.

PS3 owners buying it again for their PS4. GTA Online constantly adding new content.

- World Population age 6 to 18: 1.4 Billion.
- GTA5 Copies sold: 80 Millions.
- As videogames get cheaper, more people have financial access to it.

GTA is a cultural phenomenon.

The only real effect sales figures have on my gaming experience is offering a higher potential number of online opponents.

And that business need to at least break even or else they have to rebudget, downsize, pivot or close.

Same logic can be applied to reviews too

I already feel like the replayability is dismal! I still can't fathom the genius behind no campaign mode! Already went back to fm7 and pacrs 2.

Given that people in the UK tend to be paid towards the end of the month, I recon it will still sell strongly despite the bad reviews, after that however, it will drop like a fly.

If nothing comes close to racing against Human competition, why don't you race project Cars 2 online? I've got some vacancies in my Monday series for clean drivers, but the Wednesday series is over subscribed.

I can't speak for the other guy but my experience with PCars 2 is constantly getting kicked out of race servers for no reason. Even though my connection and everybody else's seems good. And sometimes when I do find a server to race in it is usually while a race is already going so I have to wait on the race and hope that I don't get kicked out when the race restarts or hope that the person running it doesn't just leave and leave it empty all of a sudden.

I think with GTS the reason people like it online is because you can always join a race. Much like joining in Battlefield 4 where you are always joining a battle. No waiting. SO FAR, my experience with GTS I have yet to fall out of a server or get disconnected from it. But I have heard otherwise from other people so maybe it is a location thing for both games.

While I am a fan of project cars(1&2) I don't really use the single player mode much on it anymore. Honestly, I am thinking the future of racing games will have the majority of the game being played online. I am not saying that is a good or a bad thing.

On the other hand, shoot me some info on your Monday series please. I like racing in league races when I can.

Online Gaming has endless replayability because you are playing against real people, who all behave different. That's the beauty of GTS. A working System which pits the gamer against others with similar skill. But sure if you have friends in FM7 and PCars who race with you, it will be fun too. I don't want to race against Drivatars ever again. Who needs them if you can have REAL people! In League of Legends there is a single Competition map, but the replayabilty is endless. That's esport.

To get the real picture, we'd need to see where GT Sport sales are in a month or so's time. In the UK on Amazon, the majority of buyers have given the game 1 star, which is pretty much the same as the PS4 version of Project CARS 2. Even though GTS pre-orders were high & made the first week sales podium (like PC2), lets see whether people continue to buy the game after all the negative user reviews.

I just went through the 1star reviews and whilst there are a lot of verified purchase reviews the majority are fake reviews especially when I saw someone complaining about how the game has only super cars and race cars (they don't know about N class vehicles) as for the sales this is a bundled title and will be sold with most PS4's over the Christmas period, regardless of what people think of the game it's going to be in many people's hands.

No they are not.

I've done a comparison of verified purchase reviews on both amazon.com and .co,uk and the ratio of negative verified reviews to positive verified reviews is roughly 3:1.

Interestingly a higher number of unverified reviews are positive than negative, as such you can't dismiss them out of hand, and more importantly neither should PD. A significant number of people who have purchased it are not happy at all, and they are quite open to saying so.

Exactly so why are people whining about how many PS4's there are?

As people have said larger install base, It's also a console exclusive and the name is a system seller, Lets compare Ferrari and Marussia, Both raced in F1 and made roadcars in recent years, However Ferrari will always perform better based on it being a longer standing brand much like GT, Also you have to consider things like advertising, Sony can afford to advertise GT over the moon they have a lot more money than Bandai Namco, So the advertising budget for PCars will be much much lower.

IMO the reason for some bad reviews is because people are judging this game for what it isn't , rather than for what it is. Some people are disappointing this isn't GT7 so they give Sport a bad review.
Which should not be a problem, after all it may be an indicator that Sony and PD failed to anticipate the market needs, or failed to communicate the change well enough.

After all Kaz himself did say that GTS would offer everything from past GT titles and more, as such some will certainly have taken that as an indication that it would have what they were expecting. He also said in the past that GTS could well be considered GT7.

As such its not a surprise that some expected it to offer that.

I agree with every point you said , i wasn't saying it was wrong or right to give the game bad reviews based on what it isn't. I was just pointing out a reason for some bad reviews.

Surely the kind of people who read Kaz interviews already knew what GT Sport was, plus they had a demo up for a week showing exactly what the game was. other than going door to door informing everyone i'm not sure what more PD could have done.

I hope Kaz and Translator-san go door to door for GTS2. They should be careful though because there are some real fans™ out there, sheesh.

Even if you judge it for what it is, it's still a mediocre game lacking content aka modifying dynamic weather cars and tracks.
