Workers Compensation Tax

Erm Fail I think. Your not really getting compensation if some of it's being taken away from you in taxes, silly government.

Fell free to inform me if I've missed something here, I'm not that familiar with the American taxes.

Employed / Student

Working one day a week on a casual basis at an investment bank, I was previously in a real estate area but got moved to funds, a LOT of people (especially front office) were axed though.

Full-time student with no job on the side.

Have begun to look for a full-time job to begin in this summer. Thankfully companies seem to look for my type of people to hire (I've checked). To boot I'm taking the practical line that is offered through the economy and adminstration studies, so I'll have experience when I'm finally done with college. So I'm mildly optimistic about my future job.

My mother, and the company she works for, has a bright time a head of them. They sell "Getting hired, for dummies"-courses that the government agencies purchases and then send unemployed people to. So far they have a 90% success rate with getting people hired when the trainee-periods ends.

Full-Time Student and practically Full-Time Worker. We've had no staff cuts as far as I'm aware, though the industry I'm in, working at a University, doesn't really lose demand as quickly as the crisis has come around.

Me and wife are employeed full time , she came home today with a letter in her hand about ready to cry , they are forcing their employess to a 5 % pay cut , if you don't like it , then leave the company is their opinion. 👎

Word, son. Its probably saving some of her co-worker's jobs as well. If my previous employer would have made 5% pay cuts in order to keep people working, I would have been happy with that, because I don't want more people losing their jobs.

I got my first 5% less paycheck today.

As others have said, she could have come home with a severance package. I will take a temporary pay cut if it means I keep my job.

Trust me, if the company is hurting and they went this route then they are actually trying to do the best thing. However, they have to take the take it or leave it approach because the initial reaction is for emotions to run high and employees that angry will quickly quiet down when they realize what their only other option is.

Sorry to hear that. But 95% is better than 0%.

Thats exactly what I have been trying to tell her guys , she's starting to come around and realize this. AT LEAST YOU ARE STILL WORKING.

I always get that saying. Though at my local Target, sometimes we are understaffed but we get the job done.

That is the trend now , the fortunate ones who are still employed are having to do more. And my employers stand right now is its an employers market right now so every one is on a shorter leash so to speak.

Well, this is happening at the local store. I believe that the top execs. didn't get a pay raise or Christmas bonuses though I don't believe that they are hating that.

Thankfully we're both still employed, although both our companies have already come to us and said there'll be no payrises or promotions this year. :(

They did, however, fire one of my local colleagues for Gross Misconduct the other day, but won't give us any details. There were 5 guys (who do what I do) in the area who're overloaded as it was, and now there's only 4 of us. Given that they're not going to hire a replacement we've now got 5 people's work to cover with 4 people, and no extra incentive (other than we're still employed!) They're truly living up to their "More with Less" mission statement for the year. We'd better be getting bigger bonuses instead! :sly:

Similar here. We've not got rid of anyone, but people who have left have not been replaced. We now have 4 designers producing the artwork for 740+ pages of magazines every month. We felt understaffed 2 years ago when we had 7 people doing the same work. :indiff:

Good god. :ill:

My wife is in the same boat. She's running a section that used to have 5 people in it and now has 2 and half, plus they've added extra work, PLUS they've gotten rid of the experienced contract employees and replaced them with inexperienced permanent employees who otherwise would have been laid off from elsewhere within the company.

I haven't been paying enough attention to Target, but we had the same things come through at GAP Inc. during the holiday season. Sales were down pretty hard across the company for the last quarter, and they did cut some jobs. As of right now though, if I'm understanding things correctly, sales are pretty good. Better than we anticipated, actually.

The only thing I'm noticing, as I spend more time in the mall(s), is that everyone has a sale going on all the time. It looks like its really the only way you can drive sales anymore.

I am so thankful for Kroger right about now...everyone needs to buy food/groceries even if prices are going up I am seeing more and more people go to food stamps/food cards.

I was suggested to get one. Being a college student, it does cut down funds. I asked my friend that he should get one though he said that it would be in better use for someone who needs it.

Time to revive this thread, Things have changed once again for my family. One Son has returned to work, while my married Son has lost his job at Kroger warehouse and had to move back in with us. Wish we could re open the poll.

Well I got my job in January and it has been fine since, the store just got done doing a remodel and has hired more people. I'm not making much(can afford rent, food and bills but not much else) but it's better than nothing.

I think I mentioned I lost my job in November, and since then I've gone through a divorce and having to move back with my parents... which also meant moving from Spain to Venezuela. Since I got back, though (a bit over a month ago) I already got a permanent job plus no less than six separate freelance gigs. Venezuela might be a 3rd world country, but there is work and I'm really happy for that.

That's good to hear, interesting as well. Is it something to do with the petro-dollars down in Venezuela?

If you're a college student, its getting rough to find a job. Working both of my retail spots almost every day, its a steady stream of 15-20 people every shift coming in to fill out applications for one or two jobs that might be opening up. Most of them are about my age, some of them recent college graduates, but not everyone. It just sucks around here right now, and with me on the verge of finishing school, I'm starting to worry about what my prospects will be come January.

If your school has a job assistant program get in there last year. Better still if you can start dating someone who works in the office who will call you when something comes in so you can be the first in line.
