Heikki Kovalainen

I'd like to dedicate a thread to who I think is the future of Formula One - Heikki Kovalainen. (After Michael Schumacher departs, that is.) Anyone who has seen this kid race knows he has talent. Example: Race of Champions: Nations Cup - He beat out every other driver out there in the singles races - including Schumacher, Kanaan, Alesi, Loeb, McRae, and many more - to win the Single racer Championship. And he was absolutely dominating the doubles with his teammate Marcus Gronholm; winning every race he was in, until he had a battery problem in his 360 Modena Challenge car. He does have a contract signed with Renault in F1 in the coming years, and I can't wait for him to show the F1 racing world what he has to offer on the track.

Any comments? Opinions?

Edit: If this thread isn't in the right place, by all means, move it. I wasn't sure where it should go, so I put it here, being as it involves a future F1 driver.

yeah, he really rules. it was a great display. who agrees that jimmie johnson should stick with nascar? lmao.

if this thread should be anywhere else, it could probably be in the motorsports board.

He helped Team USA win the Nations Cup a few years ago. Maybe you should stick with looking at some facts.

umm....i kind of designed that to go both ways. i have respect for jim.

i feel bad for him though.

He has talent, that's for sure. But is talent going to get you into Formula 1,no.You need the benjamins(money).
You need sponsors, wich he doesn't have, yet.Atleast not any major ones.I'm sure he'll get there eventually.

well he is going into rally, not f1.

:dunce: .....right?
Kovalainen? or Johnson? If you're taking about Kovalainen, like I said, he's already signed a Formula One contract with Renault, under a Driver development program, like a lot of the Nascar teams are doing in ARCA and ASA.

Kovalainen definitely has talent. But it's far too early to tell whether he'll make it in the world of Formula One.

The Renault Driver Development program picks drivers up and drops them as the wind around Flavio Briatore changes direction.

Finnish driver... :sly:

I agree of course. I would like to ask, GTChamp2003 , did Räikkönen have money when he came to Formula 1. I can say he didn't have at least much. Kimi's parents are ordinary people. So why would Heikki need big sponsors??? He had shown that he can drive well.

Finnish reporter Erkki Mustakari interviewed Kovalainen some time ago and Heikki said he (and Nico Rosberg) focus now to GP2 but maybe 2006 he can be hopefully at least test driver. He takes easy, he doesn't want to go to Formula 1 too fast.

Well, maybe i said it a little bit wrong. But it's true. You can't just be a good driver and not have any sponsors behind you.F1 teams need money aswell. It's just like with Christian Albers. He is a good driver who wants to get into F1 but he doesn't have enough sponsors to do so.I based my opinion on that.

Yeah, Miniardi chooses its drivers (most of the time) on who has the biggest pay check, Klien got his drive in 04 because he payed for it and so did various other people, unless you've got money or a decent sponser behind you it's very difficult to get your first season in F1, and unless they really perform (for the car they're in) chances are it'll be their only season..

Don't worry, Albers just found himself a major benefactor.
