Help me set up the Alfa 155 DTM for GV 300 Km

Hi, I'm trying to win the Grand Valley 300 Km endurance with the Alfa 155 DTM but I'm not fast enough.

At the first 4-laps I pull 4 seconds from the second car but, as the laps go by he gets faster and faster and eventually passes me around lap 8.

I need to make this car faster and more balanced, wearing the front tyres less.
My current setup is only good for consistent 1:56 laps, I need to be at least 2 full seconds faster!

My current setup:

420 hp Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI

Brake controller: 6/5
Driving aids: ASM: 0, TCS: 1
Downforce: 38/53
Suspension: Spring rate 18.3/16.3, Ride height 50/53, Dampers (bound and rebound): 10/10, Camber: 2.4, 1.3, Toe: 0/0, Stabiliser: 7/6
Gearing: Auto: 7, 3.800 Final drive
Torque split: 40 (to achieve better tyre wear and reduce understeer)
LSD: default
Tyres: RSH/RH

Please help, I need to be faster and get a good tyre life!

Try this SETUP. I have used it and it makes the car handle pretty well, though I'm not sure exactly how good the tire wear is. But I would guess it to be pretty good.

The setup is great, I managed to get consistent 1:54 laps with a best lap of 1:53'400.
But it wasn't enough to win the race, there was a very fast RX-7 LM Edition in the pack.

I endend up in second place with a race time of 1:58:18'794, 50 seconds behind the RX-7.

I think the only way to win this race with this car is to caredully select the opponents. I will do it, just because i love the Alfa and the 140+ A-Spec points.

Well glad I could be of some help! Glad I could recommend you to a good setup for the car. I haven't used the RX-7 LM yet in GT4, so I don't really know how much power the car has; but I would bet it has more than the Alfa.

I've been testing this same track for this race, I've tested the RE Ameria RX7 and now the Altezza Touring Car, I'm still testing but I've tried just about everything under the sun!!!..

I pull 8 Seconds in the RE Ameria in 5 laps, then they pull it all back over the next 5 laps. (By they I mean the RX7 LM and the Woodone Supra). I then fight them for 5 laps and we all pit on lap 15. This continues, but if they get in from of me on the 2rd 5 lap stint I've lost as I just can't keep up anymore...

I've tested the Altezza and it seems to run slightly faster than my RE Ameria RX7, but I have not been on the track long enough to check it's tyre wear and such....

BTW, Both cars give 200 A Spec points for this race, I WANT TO WIN IT WITH ONE OF THEM!!!! lol...

I'll record and post up settings soon... ;)

deep dish star, Good luck with this, I know what you're trying to achieve here, it's not easy... The reason the RX7 LM catches you after 4 or 5 laps is that his tyres warm up and he start planting the gas... He's much faster than you and that's why he catches on warm tyres...

:)

Good luck to both of you on winning the race. I can't really tell you how capable the cars you are using in winning the race, as I haven't had GT4 long enough to get to any of the endurance races yet. But I would bet that each of the cars you mention are more than capable of winning. Keep on racin'!

What tires are you using for the races?

Hi ViXeN, I'm glad someone else is also trying this sort of thing. :)

I have two questions if you don't mind:
- What lap times do you run with the RX-7?
- How can you make the tyres last for 15 laps? On the Alfa I'm running RSH/RH and by lap 10 they are toast (orange). So, I pit 5 times against the opposition's 3! :(

I get 1.54 - 1.55 laps, and I race on RSH/RSH and 15 laps is easy enough, Lap 15 is on Orange tyres.

The RX7 LM car pits on lap 15 as well, the Supra on lap 14... I haven't had a long enough stint to be able to test further yet, but my next mission is to try out RH/RH and see how much faster I am that way, I want to see if I can keep pulling the gap so that when I pit they don't overtake me...

It's a long process testing this track because it's 30 minutes +/- before you can start seeing what happens at the pit stops...

Keep me posted too though, as I'll be keen to hear how the Alfa handles this...

I'll get more info on my car settings etc for you...

I guess the RX-7 has better tyre wear, being a FR car.
The 4WD Alfa chews the RSH front tyres in ten laps.

But pitting only 3 times and running 1'54 you should be very close to winning. What's your race time? You need a very low 1:58 race time.

Sorry I haven't been able to reply to your post sooner, but I haven't been at home for the last couple of days and have had no access to a computer either. I actually couldn't tell you what lap times I run with the RX-7 because I have yet to drive it in GT4. In fact, I don't even know where you get the RX-7 either. (After looking at a Prize Car List, I found it its from the Roadster Enduro.)

You can make the tires last longer by backing off of your race pace some and trying to the conserve the tires by driving as smooth as you possibly can. The only problem being here is your lap times will probably suffer some. But you should be able to get an extra lap or two by doing that. With the Alfa being 4WD, the front tires will be worked more than say a car only having the rear wheels driven.

One big piece of advice I have for just about anyone is that the tires should be staggered to where they wear at the same rates. There is no real reason to be using a harder tire on one end of the car, only not to use all of it grip before you pit.

The RX-7 LM is terror on wheels in all of those around 500 HP races. None of the other cars can keep up with it except maybe a particularly good JGTC or DTM car and it usually only pits because it is low on fuel. I'd try lowering the downforce on the front of you're Alfa or putting more power to the back with an AYC if you can. It doesn't negate handling that much and it should save your front tires a little.
Alsoo, Vixen, how much fuel do you have left when you pit in?

Toronado, I'm above half @ lap 15 when I pit in the Re Ameria, not sure yet on the altezza as I only tested lap times in it...

Do you add fuel when you pit then? It sounds like you could go through another set of tires if you don't add fuel for one pit stop and then add it the next.

I only fuel every second pit, but it seems that the RX& LM does the same as his pit stop is as quick as mine... Then on the longer second stop, it's also the same time.... So I think his fuel economy is as good as mine... So I can't beat him there...

I got a major bug with my game at the moment, I can't load any races... I get the Red Speedo thingy when it's loading the track and it just hangs there... Not sure if it's my game or the PS2??? But it's driving me nuts, So I'll not be playing for a while until I can get it fixed. :(

Well I just thought I would ask about the Fuel thing and make sure you weren't spending extra time in the pits that wasn't needed.

And that must suck for you, with the whole game not working. Majorly lame! 👎 Though I haven't played much GT4 in about a week, haven't really had time. I was out of town for a couple of days and the last couple of days I have spent on my new car.

On Topic: Nah, I make sure the pit stops are as quick as possible, lol... I only fuel on my second pit stop mostly, Some cars with longer lasting tyres are a little more tricky...

Sort of off topic: And I've confirmed it's my game that's busted, I tried a buddies game and it worked fine, so it's not my PS2 thank goodness... I'm going to take the game back to where I bought it this weekend, hopefully I'll have a new one by then...

Very off topic: I'm going to get Enthusia at the same time as getting my GT4 game replaced, can't wait...

P.S. Once my GT4 game is swapped, I'll do some more testing on this event and post up my results, settings and such.

Hi, I kinda gave up on the Alfa.
I bought a Cusco Subaru Impreza (it's a JGTC GT300 class car) and fitted a stage 3 Turbo, which gave me 426hp (versus 420hp for the 155 DTM).

I took it to GV 300 Km and... OMG, so much better than the Alfa.
I lapped consistent 1:51 laps, achieving a race time of 1:54'58.963 and some 127 A-Spec points.
The tyre wear was better too, I pitted 4 times (every 12 laps).

I guess the 155 DTM just sucks, the Impreza with a very similar power to weight ratio is much, much faster.

Well considering the Alfa is over 10 years old, the slower pace can easily be explained there. The Alfa should also eat up front tires to because of the front wheels doing both turning and putting power down. I wouldn't say the Alfa sucks though, it is just an older car and does not have as much pace.

Exactly, I think this time around PD introduced the age factor. The chassis just isn't as sharp and demands corrections at all times.

This is a great improvement over GT2 (the last I had played), in which a 30+ year old Ford GT40 had a chassis just as good as a new car of the same class.

They had it in GT3 also. Though I'm not exactly sure how fast the Alfa is compared to the other DTM cars. I haven't really done a side by side comparison of the different cars. It doesn't really surprise me at all that the Cusco Impreza is faster.

It's a pity you lost interest inthe challenge Deep Dish... I'm going to continue this as soon as I get my GT4 game fized... I think it's the CD that's scratched which is stopping it from loading...

But I'm gonna find a way to win with 200 points on this race... I may give the Alfa a try...
