So I just bought myself a Zoom Q2HD, mainly for the purpose of conducting video interviews at race circuits.

I know there are various different settings and lots of things to adjust, but does anyone know how I should adjust it so it will pick up the interview without being drowned out by the on-track activities?

Are there plug-in microphones available for it?

Any answers would be appreciated. 👍

Looking at the specs on their site, an external mic isn't listed as an option. You'd need to jump to the Q3HD for that. One thing you could try playing with, and perhaps you already have, is the setting involving the side mics. If you turn them down (or off?) that would narrow the mics range from an omnidirectional to a unidirectional - picking up from everywhere to only in front. If I'm reading it correctly.

Yeah the side mics were the first thing I attempted to fiddle with, but it doesn't seem to do much from what I can tell.

I think that it may be possible to use an external mic, as there's an option that reads 'USB Mic' with the USB section of the menus.

I just took a look at the manual - you misread that part. It says you can connect the Q2HD to a computer with a USB cable to use the Q2HD AS A USB MIC to record on the computer, not that you can use a USB mic on the Q2HD.

Ahh, jeeze this thing is complicated. I sort of wish I'd invested in a Q3HD now. :banghead:
