Henrik Larsson - to stay or not to stay?

Man U are having trouble on the attacking side. All you Man U fans, what is your opinion of the whole Henrik Larsson thing? I'm just curious since I am swedish. Plus, I think he has great football skills, which United probably could have great use of in this last part of the season.

Edit: btw, he just scored 1-0 against Lille!!

I think the goal vs Lille says it. lol

He's been a great asset to the team, and being a Man Utd fan from Manchester I would've loved to have seen a possible purchase deal. Hopefully Utd will look at Larsson again at the end of the season with eyes to bring him to Old Trafford permanently.

Shame he has to leave :(

So you don't think he's too "old" then?

I think he's a great player who bring good experience to an otherwise fairly young offense (Not including Giggs and Scholes).

Alex Furguson isn't known for getting rid of players due to age. Two good examples are Teddy Sheringham who played there untill 35 and Denis Irwin who was there untill 37!

Yeah I guess you're right! =)

Hehe, just read an interview with Henrik(which wasn't supposed to be published) where he talks about going back home and how different it'll be. Sir Alex is scottish, and HIF's manager is Stuart Baxter, a scot; "Any scot is as good as the other, so there will be no real difference". :sly: He's such a cool guy.

Henrik's got two more seasons in him yet.

Personally I think he's done a fantastic job at Man U in his short stay. He's scored a couple of very important goals and he fully deserved the standing ovation he got when he came off today. I would have loved it for Man U to have been able to sign him for a couple of seasons. As a summer transfer, I don't see that happening, if that was on the cards then he would have probably just not gone back. I respect his reasons for going though.

We will be short on striking force in the next couple of weeks. It will be Rooney and Smith for the next 3 or 4 games at least. However, people need to remember, we were top of the league and winning games before Larsson came, just because he's not staying, that doesn't mean suddenly Man U won't do well. Sure we're not going to be as strong, especially in squad depth without him, but he didn't put us at the top, nor is there any reason for us to drop without him.

Age is never a factor when you are still performing.

I think Giggs is 33 at the moment and is still going strong. Larsson brings a good amount of experience and knowledge to the table and after seeing him play, no I don't think he's too old at all. As L4S says, a good two seasons in him..... but they wont be at Man Utd unfortunatly.

Looks like he's definitely sticking to his word and leaving on March 12th... must be a rare thing to be able to leave Man U while the manager is practically begging for you to stay! It is a shame that Henrik may well miss out on a unique chance to win back-to-back Champions League trophies with two different clubs, but he committed himself to leaving and I think he'll stick to it unless the manager of Helsingborg and/or his wife persuade him to finish the season with Man U. Larsson is a credit to the game of football, that's for sure 👍
