High School

@prisonermonkeys we read one in class that dealt with rape and homicide and it was pretty good. I was brainstorming a plot on the west coast of the United States that death with a tyrannical government and the importance of nationalism in the face of tyranny.

Is it the best thing to write a short story about, probably not. But I've been dubbed by our previous teacher as one of the best writers in the whole of the classes so I doubt it'll be too bad.

The first thing that I tell my students is to avoid it. Just because it can be done, that doesn't mean that you can pull it off - and you stain to lose a lot more getting it wrong than you will gain from getting it right.

Nope. Way too complex. Especially when you consider that nationalism and tyranny are not diametrically opposed - you can be nationalist and tyrannical at the same time. In fact, most tyrants have appealed to the sense of nationalism in the population.

Your idea sounds less like a short story and more like the headline act for a Tea Party monthly.

Was about to go out of the house (I did but my dad sped out of the parking lot) and then this happened

You could see it from a Mile Radius....

Had an end of the year cookout in my ag mechanics class today. Grilled some good burgers and brats.

Next class in chemistry we have a titration lab. Unlike the recent precipitate one, this one won't be formal. Today I also had a meeting to sort out my mandatory work experience hours. I think the minimum is 30, and I can do up to 90 or something. Regardless, 30 is the min. We've hammered out a rough plan that should allow me to get I think 75 hours done over the summer (Which would only take a couple weeks), with the rest being done around September.

LOL NAPLAN is genuinely pathetic and I simply can't understand why it needs to be done. Doesn't go on my report so therefore I don't consider it much.

It's designed to assess trends in student performance in literacy and numeracy over time. It's less concerned with the performance of the individual and more interested in the school, the region, the state and the nation.

Ultimately it's about gaining quantitative data that can be used to show student outcomes, which can then be used for socio-political purposes. Personally, I'm not a fan, as it doesn't engage higher-order thinking skills, though I can see the benefit on a supra-educational level.

On a Tuesday?

That's weird.
I have school off for Tuesday next week because professional development. I have Monday off because Victoria Day, which means nobody works. If it wasn't a holiday, the Pro-D days usually fall on Mondays or Fridays. This isn't the first time I've had a 4 day weekend this year. There was the Easter weekend, and there may have been another 4 day weekend before that, but I'd have to check.

In other news, we did the first have of the titration lab today. Someone broke a pipette. But someone dropped one before that and it didn't break. The sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid weren't that strong. The sodium hydroxide wasn't even 0.1M, and I was only using about 30 ml at a time. Still have to figure out the [HCl].

Meanwhile, I just remembered I have an interview from work experience, and I forgot when that was supposed to happen. Cause I need at least 30 hours of work experience, and I have it planned out to do 90 in total, with 75 of those happening over summer. I'm still not completely sure if 90 is an upper bound or not. But 30 is the minimum, and I should easily get 90 done.

I got the results from a science test I did recently, I ended up getting 73%. I also got 100% for a chemical bonding assignment that I did a while ago, which I was honestly expecting to fail. I was shocked when I got it back lol.

My AP Environmental Science class is doing absolutely NOTHING for the rest of the year. Watching movies and stuff is way better than academics. :dopey: I say this because we've already taken the exam and there's still two weeks left. If I got a 3, 4, or 5/5 on the exam I earn $100 from Notre Dame University from the AP-TIP grant. :D

Tomorrow I have some sort of English test. This won't go well. Math has also been a bit bumpy lately. But I'll get through.

Meanwhile, I baked some muffins to bring to chemistry. The teacher decided to make the beginning of every Friday in May where we have class a time to bring snacks. The column I was in is up this week, so I baked three dozen muffins. The class has 30 seats, but I'm not sure if there are actually that many students, and I have some elsewhere. I adjusted the recipe to 30, but I played loose with the measurements, just like with significant figures. Some of the muffins didn't hold together very well, but they're mostly fine. I don't think there would have been enough butter anyway. Using oil never crossed my mind. Also, I put in marshmallow. That was not the best idea. I put three in the batter to test, but the mixer wouldn't make them fluid enough. I then melted some, but it kind of got onto the plate thingy in the microwave. But I wiped it off. The melted marshmallow mixed in the batter fine, except for some that solidified on the mixer's beaters. But hot water got it off, and the muffins cooked fine.

Yeah.
