High School

Also, I put in marshmallow. That was not the best idea. I put three in the batter to test, but the mixer wouldn't make them fluid enough. I then melted some, but it kind of got onto the plate thingy in the microwave. But I wiped it off. The melted marshmallow mixed in the batter fine, except for some that solidified on the mixer's beaters. But hot water got it off, and the muffins cooked fine.
Thats a funny way of making muffins :)

It was really something. Still, it went fine. Meanwhile, the English test actually went fine. It was all multiple choice, with a written response for a poem that was printed on the paper anyway. I didn't have any time to study last night because I was baking the muffins all afternoon, and then I went and got a burger later.

Today is Prom Night and I'm already regretting not buying the ticket.

Apparently a kid my school got seriously injured. Ironically a kid a year ahead of me who was in my drivers ed class was driving when a kid from my autoshop class was hanging off the side of his truck (a Dodge Dakota if you really want to know). He braked hard and the kid flew off the truck. There are many other stories of what happened, but this is the one my auto teacher told me so I trust it. Apparently the driver may have left without stopping to help him, and the cops might actually be looking for him but I'm not confirming anything because as you know us stupid high schoolers like to start rumors and over exagerate things so who knows whats happening. The kid had his side all cut open apparently and he may have hit his head hard so he might have damaged his skull. Thats all I know but it's a pretty big deal.

In other news BMW stereotypes are true. In auto class we are detailing cars to raise money for a trip to hopefully go to a go-karting and mini golf place (which I've been to a few years ago, but orobably not since I started high school). Me and a couple of friends were going to detail a BMW Wagon of some sort (530 xl or something like that, not an expert on BMW's so feel free to correct me). The car came in like 15-20 minutes late, and was used to carry around dogs (which is either supposed to be told prior or not be done at all because dog hair sucks to get out.) Anyway, I wipped down the insides then used Armour All to really clean it. I got it pretty good but were no $150 dollar detail service, we do it for like $50 I believe. We did the best we could to get the dog hair as well as the rest of the car and it turned out pretty good, but I wish we had more time *cough* *cough*. Anyway the next day I noticed that the car was still in the shop and I could already guess why. Turns out the owner sent an angry email to the teacher saying that it looked like we didn't clean it at all (Apparently cleanning the body and windshield of pollen and dirt while making sure the dash and centre console are clean isnt important.) We ended up doing the back end of it where the dogs sit a second time, but we used a wet mop and vinegar to pull it off while pouring baking soda all over it to clear the vinegar. We got a lot more hair out but the entire class was actually kind of mad. Then when she came back for the car she said:

So I got my yearbook on friday, and here's a compilation of some of the.. more interesting senior quotes.

Anyways, I'm going into my last week of school for this years, and that means finals. So I guess I won't sleep a lot for a while.
And I thought my Top Gear quote was good, these are gold

Heading into the final week as a junior. What really stinks about the finals at my school now is even if you take your final before the scheduled test time, you still have to show up and do nothing for an hour at the scheduled time that final would be.

Okay then. Since I don't graduate for another year, I still have time to think of what I want my quote in the yearbook to be.

I had to stay back after school to finish a science project god dammit, but the results were surprisingly good. My teacher actually said something nice to me for once:sly:

Had an analysis task in English, I really don't think that I did well.
A) Is there a particular reason why you feel that way?
B) Do you happen to know of any English teachers in this thread who might be able to help you understand why you might have mis-stepped?

A) It was a persuasive language analysis task, I feel that I was just summarising the article more than explaining the persuasive language techniques. This is what I ended up doing on the practice one, too.
B) I do believe that I'm talking to one :P

Okay, yes; plot recount can be an issue. But you don't want to just list the techniques being used, either. You need to focus it one something - the terms of the question. What you're aiming for is discussing the way composers create meaning.

The easiest way to do it is to STEEL - start with a topic Sentence, then name the Technique used, provide an Example, describe the Effect on the audience and Link it back to your topic sentence.

Thank you very much 👍 I should probably do a few practice articles before the next assessment task, persuasive techniques aren't something I'm particularly good at.

All techniques can be used to persuade - after all, persuasion is the purpose of the text. You simply need to make the case for each one.

Ultimately, you should be aiming for synthesis; how multiple techniques combine to create meaning.

I feel like I can play a drinking game involving my friends if I wasn't straight edge.

Taking a drink whenever one of my friends shut people off for their phones.

3 of them would make me way too tipsy . Phones really did a number with my friends. Now I can only guess 3 of my friends out of 10 of them will be going to Uni after school and 9 of them do Standard or higher. I keep hearing stories on how they just go on their Phones during Biology, Maths and English and then they complain about a "unfair test" (though the one on Biologys half-yearly was actually unfair).

I am now mostly out of the hole with my English mark. My mark this term has gone up to 81 percent. Considering that my mark dipped as low as 25, this is okay.

Two weeks to go. Junior year has been an amazing time. Made more friends than ever, good friends too. Got pretty stellar grades as well, and got less stressed about my future. I also hope that I made a positive impact on other people as well! Junior year is already shaping up to go out with a bang!

My senior class had our class meeting today. The principal told us that this has been on of the best classes in Kennett's history (which I think is kinda cool). We got all our paper work for project graduation, our papers for graduation rehearsal, and the slip for picking out our partner for the "walk of shame". That friend I had trouble with a month ago is the person I'll be walking with, to show to the class we are still best friends. Honestly, it didn't hit me till today that this really is the last few weeks of my senior year.

We had our last band concert of the year last night. Here are two of the three songs we played. Sorry for the bad audio quality. I had to secretly record it with my phone (hence the boring view). I play the saxophone so the balance of the instruments will be a bit off compared to what you would here if you were sitting in the audience.

This song had two blues improvisation solos in the middle.

Today I got both my math and chemistry reviews. I have a math unit test on Monday, with a chemistry unit test next Friday, but I've finished the chemistry review and haven't started the math review. The final units for both classes are apparently going to be quite short because we have less than a month left.
