The widest shots in the sets are already at 70mm, which is the widest for the lens. Perhaps the 50mm f/1.4 would have been a good choice in this situation?Nice set. Great portrait cropping. Did you shoot any wider shots of the performance?

I've noticed this as well with my own 50mm f/1.4. I think it's a limitation of the 450D's focusing/metering system. The center point still focuses decently at f/1.4, but the outside ones certainly not (unless there's lot's of contrast/light in the particular area you're focusing on). You can very clearly see that it has trouble finding focus when DOF is really shallow. It's certainly not a trouble anymore once you stop it down a bit (but then again, why did we get ourselves an f/1.4, certainly not to stop it down ). Manual focus will still work of course, but will be difficult with the shallow DOF.i did have my 50 1.4 with me but it seems to have a habit of hunting whereas you take the picture and look on the body and it looks in focus but when you look at it on a computer you can see the focus has shifted
