Holden's pictures update June 2014

Nice quick one from last night! I love how the out-of-focus stuff leads your eye to her, very well composed.

I also like the flame-spitting pictures in the rallycross sets, and indeed like your favorite, great timing on the splashing drift.

Simply brilliant! 👍

few more from today rest in the link above

few more videos uploading from other in car cameras (mini and 240z) those should be up tomorrow

I'm glad you've dropped the yellow tint style but your cropping is far too tight for my liking. I do like the crop on the black Ferrari however, it works with the angle.

another quick in car video from the mini cooper

and also a 240z

Well your shots are nice and sharp and have some lovely tones in a couple of them...however I'm not keen on the really thin style of photo's that you've done for the whole set. It doesn't really give it a sense of speed, it just makes them seem far too closely cropped. If you wanted to get the frame filled a bit more by the car could you not have moved somewhere else on the track to get a better view? Although I'm not familar with Knockhill so I wouldn't know. But I don't think the funny proportions of the images work in your favour they don't add anything the images sadly. The only shot which I quite like is the Ferrari, and on the full set I like this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/42427406@N05/4590293164/ nicely framed 👍

Sorry to be so negative but about most the shots, but I just don't think they work overly well. Sorry.

Oh and on a side related note, is the Bruce Taxi Mini brand new this year? I saw the Mini's last year when they visited Cadwell Park and I couldn't remember seeing one with Bruce Taxi's on. Those Mini's provide some fantastic racing I was amazed when I saw them. 👍

yep mini is new this year already on round 2 and the second mini  dont think the minis are doing cadwell this year just the legends and classics.

Ah thats awesome 👍 Shame they aren't doing Cadwell though, they were ace last year. :(

I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of the thin cropping either. As mentioned the Fezz shot is great. I like the one under it as well 👍 The departure from the extremely warm tones are good as well, you've managed to do this quite nicely whilst retaining your unique style in the editing which makes it recognisable.

Well as of tomorrow the 450D is being retired, new camera on the way :)

Been a good last few days for it with an EP Launch on Friday

And a charity event on saturday

The camera's did well over the year and a half i've had it and has got involved and to know people and make friends for life with people that i might not have ever had the chance of meeting both in the music scene and motorsport, aswell as a couple of magazine and bbc features and also with some bands and promotional companies aswell.

The 450D isn't being sold though,Last week i met up with my best friends brother who showed a band some of my pictures and they wanted promo shots done and one of them told me that his friend and one of the band members girlfriends was going to do photography at college and do band/gig photography and if i wouldn't mind taking her to a few venues and teaching her(dunno why cause i dont think its that good) but agreed to anyway as i know alot of venues wouldnt let her in due to her age but already spoke to 3 owners of different venues i go to who have said its ok aslong as shes with me so thats the hard part over!

Spent the last 2 days with her taking pictures around glasgow at skate parks and down the clydeside and she is rather good so the 450D is being passed on to her to use at gigs etc.

One of the last pictures i took on it

But thought the very last one should be of who its being passed on to.

These band shots are great. The colours are warm but not overdone, and the framing is better as well due to having a little more of the location visible in the shot. The first shot in particular is fantastic. So will there be a replacement for the 450D?

Yeah the 450D's replacement arrived yesterday.

Nothing actually has been done colour wise pp to these as this time I actually had some control over the lights. At the event on saturday the orginisers wanted to use orange(!) spot lights which just made everyone look like they had too much fake tan on so managed to get them to use a yellow spot light and orange ambiant like which worked well.

Not been in this thread in a while, have to say that some of these shots are amazing me. The gig ones are definitely top of the tree, clarity and colour in them is spot-on 👍

Seems like it takes excellent videos too. HD I presume? As for the audio, is it possible to use a splitter to take the vox and guitar off to the camera somehow? Then you'd have virtually studio-quality images and sound.

Yeah HD 1080p 420 mins to upload that video raw

It was something i spoke to the sound engineer last night and he's going to bring a few things in next thursday that we are going to try out and i have a remote mic that i used for motorsport that ive been told is good for gigs so going to try that at one next wednesday.

Sounds good. A bit of background noise wouldn't hurt actually, adds to the atmosphere. A mic placed somewhere close to her should get a nice mix.

Great pics!!! I love the live video options, very clear pic! I'm curious what mic solution you find for it.

If you like to give it a sense of speed try experimenting with slower shutter speeds. The blur effect will sometimes give you some surprising results. :) If you like tight shots don't be afraid to crop out some parts of the car. It dosen't have to be a full shot of the car in motion. It could just be the front or back part or even just a full frontal shot. Just my 2 cents, sorry. No offence intended.

Tried AV outputs last night at a metal gig but it was too distorted, you cant control the volume input plus you can tell metal bands cant sing  plus my external mic that i use in the race cars didnt seem to handle it well to so i think for bands it will be a case of recording the sound on the sony and syncing it over but with live acoustics the av outputs might be good so going to try that tonight.

I really like the first 5. You didn't crop these shots like you usually do, and personally I think they are better for it. The first two drifting Escort shots n particular are tack sharp and look great.
