Congrats to you and your wife.
Not surprised she had a little trouble delivering at 8lb 10oz.
Enjoy every minute you have with her, they grow up way too fast.

Buy a gun. You're going to need it in at least 15 years.

Several guns, in fact. And make them Bolt-Action or Pump, that way it's more intimidating when you clean them while her Boy-thing is around. It REALLY works!

Congrats!

Congratulations Mike! Any guy can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a Dad. :sly:

Congrats!

Get an AK. Just letting him know that you own one will scare the **** out of him.

Mike must be a very busy man bless to be nit posting updates

That's because he's probably tired, and that babies don't do very much for the first few months...they sort of lay around, and start from a rest in the equivalent of 4th gear. They merely eat, poop, and sleep. Parenting seems quite easy at first!

But eventually, they're doing something completely new every week, or even every few days. And that's when so many things change in your life...

Hello all, yes I'm still alive

Pubik sums up things pretty well so far, I will be doing an update tomorrow with all the details of my first week of parenthood.

I'm thankful to all those that have posted such nice messages, means alot to us all 👍

I'll check in tomorrow, right now I'm trying to catch up on sleep...not easy so far!

You do need to catch up on sleep!

Ok, here is my first week of parenthood summed up the best I can.

First off I must say, WOW! what a wild ride!

Sleep is a distant memory, Aubree isn't hard to care for at this stage, mainly just feeding (which my wife does via her breasts) changing, and the occasional reasuring cuddle.

The first night home with her was hard, I won't lie. She wouldn't sleep in her cot and was up every hour for a feed. I had 30mins sleep that night.
the second night was similar, except I managed 2 hours sleep that time. MrsMad mainly slept, which is what I wanted as she needed to recover from the birth. So for those nights Aubree was formula fed.
The third night was awesome, she feed well and slept for 3 hour blocks throughout which meant we both got much better sleep.
The forth night we brought a Manual Breast pump to give MrsMad's rather sore nipples a rest, this has worked a treat and meant Aubree drinks minimal formula these days.
The rest of the nights have seen her nearly sleep through which is awesome, she wakes up about 3 times a night for Boob milk, which means I get to sleep! :D Which is handy considering I started work again today :grumpy:

Aubree is of course, my life. Although I don't feel like a dad I feel connected to my baby girl in a way I can't discribe. Her tiny features always make me smile.

This has by far been the most intense experience of my life, and I must say if you are on the fence about having a baby, then go for it, you won't for a second regret it.

We have had Hayley and Lawson (My wife's sister and her son) stay with us since wednesday to help out, they have been amazing helping out with cleaning and looking after Aubs while we shower ect, without them it would of been far more difficult, they leave tomorrow which will be good for us all I think, not that we want them to go but we need to establish some sort of routine for us and Aubree.

So in short, i'm way out of my depth but still swimming! :D

Congrats Mike. It has been a heck of a ride watching this thread from beginning to the birth. Thanks for all the information you have posted. 👍

In the Uk well above the approved parenthood age!

So true. So very, very true.

I agree with CAMAROBOY, thanks so much for sharing your story! I'm sure this will be a good place for any future parent(s) to look for info and tips. Not as much use to me for tips though as I don't plan on becoming a mother any time soon! :P

Please give MrsMad a huge massive YAY from me for breastfeeding :D

Then tell her that although she's sore and feels like there's a limpet attached to her, once the six week growth spurt is out of the way (she'll have a tough time with that one and will need extra support), things will calm down and she'll start to feel like breastfeeding is easy, with relatively decent sized breaks between each feed. All she needs to do right now is make sure she's comfy and latch Aubree on (or just keep her as close as possible) as much as she possibly can to get her milk supply going properly. Oats are an excellent milk booster so ready brek and flapjacks in large quantities!

If you need *any* help or assistance with breastfeeding, or you want to ask any questions AT ALL (and I mean anything, even if you think it's daft) then I am absolutely here to help. I've been breastfeeding for 1 week off six months now and like to think I'm a pro now

It's best to PM Famine with anything you want to ask as he lives on here and will relay the message as I don't get to read GTP every day. And keep telling MrsMad what a fab job she's doing, even if she's knackered and close to giving up.
