Hope you're having fun so far. I have to echo that of another user. Since i last came around and told you (mike) on this thread about having a child, she has grown a bit bigger and is about to be four months now. The bond you and your child have is sure to grow, my daughter though young always looks around for me when I'm not home or if my wife says daddy should be home from work soon. She gets happy and kicks around when I come home from somewhere and makes cute baby noises.

So no worries I feel you'll have a similar experience.

I read through most of your thread (admittedly not all 35 pages of it!) but I have been looking at blogs from people on various forums I am signed up to.

Me and my girlfriend went through a lot last year - she fell pregnant in June and it came as a bit of a shock (we were using protection). We both decided to keep the baby and I would support her through and through. Unfortunately she miscarried after about 13 weeks, not long after her 12 week scan in fact.

This caused major upset but if anything we grew stronger together, both wanting a child (similarly her elder sister fell pregnant around the same time and had a baby boy earlier this year). Still living at home with my parents (I'm 23!) she is now 17 weeks pregnant again, this time everything is seemingly well. We keep having reminders of what happened before and to be honest it is very frightening. However with every week it becomes more and more of a relief that she and baby are OK.

Literally everything is happening at once, I must find us somewhere to live, she lost her job, I'm having to privately rent a flat accross town and so on. Fortunately for me I'm in a good job on a good wage, so able to support her. I've gone from having a string of interesting cars - A 306 GTi6, an imported Mazda MX5 mk1 1.8 and a Toyota Celica 190 - I now have a 3-door Ford Focus diesel! This has been another culture shock worth mentioning, as it's kind of relevant to the forum!

Just today she has phoned me complaining of severe abdominal pain and the memories of last time start flooding back into my head. I work about 20 miles away from home and she is being taken to hospital later this morning by her mum.

I'm losing my mind here at work!

GO HOME!!!

and good luck!

Chris, I wouldn't worry too much, the baby's not popping out at 20 weeks...that's just too extremely rare to even consider. My wife had "pangs" a few times, but mostly waited them out until the time was right.

Ah, the Swaddler! Worked like magic for the first 18 months of my daughter's life. May son didn't seem to care for it, like most babies, as parents would tell me later on.

Similar thing with mine. Boy wasn't fussed so we didn't bother and it only worked now and again with our girl. You do feel a bit mean when you first do it... that and the impression that you're getting them ready for the oven.

Probably just me with that one...

Our baby girl got to the point she couldnt sleep without one. she would fall asleep but then her arms would jolt up into the air and wake her everytime. she cried and cried until we eventually got so tired of not sleeping we gave up and swaddled her and she slept great. weening her off wasnt fun

Once they realize they don't fit in it, the problem goes away. We cut it length-wise, and it became her new "gotta take this everywhere security blanket" for the next two years.

I was 13 weeks early if that's anything.

I wish my daughter wanted to be swaddled still. She only sleeps with me and my wife, or if we're lucky in her little rocker seat.

Wow, that sounds like hard work, how old is she? Our little one is about 5 months now (my missus will know to the day - I'm rubbish at keeping track) and over the last three weeks we have worked hard at getting her to sleep in her cot.

We just spent lots of time with her playing in her room and feeding in there, getting her used to it. Having her sleeping all by her self has given us a new lease of sleep!

10 weeks myself...but it's a very remote chance that a child will be born only halfway through its gestation period.

Well, after two visits to the hospital in 24 hours, 2 scans, 2 assessments, they say everything is fine.

Thank god for that.

Honestly the most stressful time of my life so far, this whole pregnancy thing. We have the 20 week scan in 3 weeks, so hopefully won't be visiting the hospital again until then.

Good to hear that. 👍 My wife and I had some similar problems to yourselves before our little girl decided to turn up, so I can fully sympathise with you. Good luck with everything.

Good thing everything went well, I was born 3 weeks late (didn't want to come out), accidently took a poo in my momma and went into fetal distress and was born by C-section.

I'm glad to hear all is well mate 👍 We had a miscarriage before so I can understand how you feel.
Feel free to keep us posted here :D

Having read all the comments since my update I feel fairly lucky she sleeps so well.....at the moment

Not everyone can say they pooed in their mums

I'm still somewhat embarrassed by it but I realize that I couldn't control it then and I don't even remember it lol.

Well we are a little late, but here's week 5!

We spent the weekend at MrsMad's 'rents, it's the first time we have been as a family of 3, and well, it was different. Everything has changed now Aubs is here, Loz and I no longer get smashed and sit up all night chatting rubbish, we now hot bed at 12 and drink moderately  We no longer pop out to town for a look around, everything has to be planned out and thought about. It took me a while to accept this and try and adjust to it but in the end I realised it is my life now, I'm not upset by this but it has made me realise that my life is profoundly different now :odd: I'm a different man!
However, some traits are hard to shake, my lack of patience is still there, I lose my temper with Aubs waaay to quickly still, I'm having to walk out and hand her back to MrsMad a few times a week. I have noticed I stay calmer for longer now, and I am desperately trying to work out a way to change this less than desirable trait of mine, but it's not easy, I had things happen to me as a child/young man that made me have this defence mechanism, it's not who I want to be and i'm fighting harder now than ever to better myself.

Anyway, enough about me, how's Aubs? In short, Whingy  I kid, she is lovely, and she is my world. She is progressively getting grumpier in the evenings (hence the above)
Apart from my issues she is honestly a lovely little girl, she is well tempered and extremely cute, it's my issues that are stopping me loving her as much as I think I should, don't get me wrong I love her to bits, but a part of me feels like I should feel more

Despite all this I wouldn't have it any other way, having to better myself in exchange for Aubs is a price I would pay anyday, she is perfect and has made me who I am, and in time will make me a better person. I thank MrsMad hugely as she is able to calm both Aubree and myself and bring us closer together, as well as feeding and caring for our little girl, without her I think I would be badly struggling :nervous:

So there you go, a honest and perhaps suprising account, I feel exposed for sharing these feelings and truthfully worry what some of you may think about me.
I have to be honest with this Blog, regardless of what I feel

To lighten the mood, here's some piccys:

Uncle Loz

When were calm and getting along

Worst poo explosion ever!

Having seen a pooh explosion in person I can almost imagine the pong now...

I'm reading a few threads / blogs of blokes' experiences with their first kid and would say that the feelings you are experiencing are not uncommon, lots of dads feel like their not 'connecting' properly with their child. From what I've read, it is just a matter of time before everything falls into place and everything becomes 'normal'.

How are your work arrangements now?

It's one major concern that I have, mainly due to my lack of understanding of the whole 'paternity leave' thing.

I work full time and don't know what my entitlement will be when Nat has our sprog (due 22nd Oct). Obviously my purpose will be to support her immediately after baby arrives, by being at home.

As I don't "get it" yet I thought I'd ask if you could enlighten me a bit. Right now all I'm doing is saving my holiday entitlement in case I need to use it...

You feed that new born of yours chili one more time and I'll call Department of Children and Family Services on you!

Glad to see all is still well. And at some point when she's grown up you'll show her this thread and she'll be so embarrassed!

Worst? Worst poo explosion? You just wait until she starts eating solids :D

Mini-Fam Mk2 managed to get it up the back of her neck and out of the armholes once. It was impressive!

She's gorgeous, you should be very proud. And don't worry about the whole load of weird feelings you're having, it's very hard for Dads to connect with their babies as much as they'd like to. Mum gets the main bulk of the workload for the first year or so and for very good reason and hence they generally bond to baby much tighter (unless the evil PND rears its ugly head). So really, don't feel bad. Pretty soon you'll feel your heart bursting with love for her and over time you'll be able to do much more for her as she becomes less dependent on MrsMad for her needs. It's all part of having children and watch them grow and develop. Just wait until you have "the chat" about mini-Mad Mk 2 ;)

Week 6!

And what a week it's been! There is never a dull moment with a baby

The main highlights have been her first smiles, seeing that brief little smile makes all the hard work worth it for both of us, especially as she has been a little horror during the hot weekend  She was one unhappy baby, literally cried all day with no real sleep, just 20min naps then waking up crying again...in the end she has us both at our wits end and somewhat angry and frustrated. I'm pleased to say I seem to be getting better, far from perfect but it's taking her longer to get me bothered, it's only the evenings or early hours now when I have to take a deep breath, prayer, and think about all the good points while she's screaming in my ear. (Aubree, not tash  )

She now weighs a wopping 12lbs 3oz  So clearly my superstar wife is feeding her excellently, she is the perfect mother and is a real insperation to me.

In other news my Brother and Sister in law (Tash's sister and her husband) are moving to my town, this weekend! This is brilliant for us all, Tash will have more help during the day and so will Hayley, they have a 1 year old (My Nephew) and they are close, it will be really nice for us all, especially as my Bro in law is like a Brother to me.

In other, less related news, I have purchased a 2.0litre Alfa Romeo Twin Spark engine...I plan to put this in the Sportwagon soon, after fitting a new cambelt and fully servicing it.
Why? Well I want a faster car but Tash want's to keep the car we got, so....compromise :sly:

I can't think of anything else apart from spending some time round my grandmothers, we had a nice time and had some family pictures taken, which are below!

Happy family
