Kind of forgot about this, the CRX has been off the road since the end of summer, I've had a 2nd car to get me to work in the meantime and for the foreseeable future while purchases take place.

I've been purchasing bits to start the new engine build, so far I have a bare B18C bottom end and head plus a B18C crankshaft all ready to go get cleaned up before I start buying parts to build up the bottom end. I'm shooting for a somewhat sensible NA build as I don't want anything excessive in a FWD car, it would ruin it's eventual purpose.

Also looking into a weight saving solution in the form of replacing the glass roof for plastic. I've first got to find out just how structually integral the glass is though as to if I need some form of bracing welded in and as to if it would even be beneficial by that point.

Also got a test set of 6two1 coilovers coming over shortly from the production factory, they've performed well on the EG and EK chassis so I'm confident they'll do what I need.

Busy times ahead, but it's exciting to have some real progress.

Looking forward to the build updates. Im interested in buying a Honda crx myself, began looking around a few weeks ago. Any areas to look out for And be weary of? I know one of the main problems is the rust, kinda know how to check for it on the sills and arches, bootlip etc. What about mileage? I remember seeing one With 200,000m was in good condition but was kinda unsure whether to go for it.

@mp10 It can be tricky to find a decent one so hold out, it took 2 years for me to take the plunge and fix what someone was giving up on so that I had a clean shell and good motor to work with. It's the same with any Honda really, look for any signs of leaks into the boot from the top of the tailgate and the rear light seals, rust in the arches and sills under the plastic covers, the guttering likes to block up and cause leaks into the boot too. The bottoms of the doors can rust from water running down the inside of the door. Mine was on around 130k which is pretty low for the age, but it all depends on how it's been treated. Check the engine for any oil leaks from the cam seal, VTEC solenoid and rocker cover edges, blue smoke on VTEC engagement/let off which will say there's valve stem seals in need of replacing. Everyone will say no smoke and pulls like a train, everyone lies. The gearbox on B series engines have a common fault with weak synchros so can crunch between gears, typically at the top of a gear then shifting when accelerating hard. Sunroofs are also great at rusting.
Join the CRX-UK forum to get more ideas and they'll also probably have a thread from a previous owner or someone looking to buy it before.

Thanks for the pointers, I'm keeping a look out for a VTEC ideally celestial blue, but would settle for a silver or red one. Will sign up to the forum and have a look around. I have another question if you don't mind, is it possible to get a power steering unit fitted to a crx, seeing as it don't have pas.
Thanks

@mp10 Celestial Blue is rare as hen's teeth nowadays in any worthy condition. Silver or red is your best bet, red looks fantastic cleaned up, be it Rio or Torino.
Power steering came on the SiR but can be swapped onto a VT with the right parts, available on the forum somewhat regularly. To be honest I've never needed it nor missed it, swings into a parking space fine and the car is light enough for it not to be heavy with some decent sized tyres, my Micra is worse.

I wish I could have such a car at my 21 years of age...I really envy you. Plenty of mods, lightweight, ability to purschase second-hand engine overhauls bit by bit...you're one lucky young man.

Hey, that's a way of saying "congratulations", isn't it?

Hey could it be that you have been to the Reisbrennen in Germany? I remember there was a CRX in your Color and same White rims on it! Just cant remember if it was from UK :D

I see! Well it looked really like the one I saw. Anyways nice one! Got a Honda too :)
Will you be going to the European Honda gathering this year? I might try jump in a friend's car while mine is off the road, would love to see such a big collection.

Didnt hear of it yet, where it's gonna take place?

oOOOooOooOO! Beautiful CRX! The CRX was the first car I fell in love with and what started my obsession with cars as a kid. Yours is done up really nicely

I stupidly left the car sitting for a while over winter and things got damp, resulting in it turning over sluggishly and not starting. I've bought new spark plugs and a battery, plus just recieved my parcel of a starter motor and distributor, covering most common problems hindering a start up. Maybe this weekend will be the one to bring some noise again, I do miss it.

Finally had the chance to go visit and play. Fitted the dizzy on Monday but the battery was weak, close but no luck.

Put on a freshly charged battery this afternoon and turned the key. Started first time! Nice to know she still runs. Now to solve the slipping auxiliary belt, possible seized alternator pulley...

That is one beautiful car. Most of the CRXs around my parts are eiher bellybutton cars or disposable cars or, shudder, riced out. Yours looks in fine shape without being too over-the-top. Well done

@Ronald6 @Macapaca Cheers for the kind words :) While I build this car purely for myself it's nice to know other people enjoy it too.

Cut the auxiliary belt off and left the car running for 15 minutes yesterday, got it moving a bit so work can start on a brake overhaul in the near future. Had a spare alternator from a Del Sol me and some friends broke for spares so now just waiting on a new belt to arrive before fitting the alternator.

Oh holy crap you're in the UK! theres not many on the roads now here is there? you lucky bugger haha.

@Macapaca Can't say there's a whole lot but I'm still learning of some local ones people have hidden away for years at a time! They are getting harder to come by in a condition worth owning or saving though so I'll be keeping hold of this one.

Just paid for another B18 crankshaft, this one is a lightweight Eagle crank though so I jumped at the opportunity and will sell on the standard one, unexpected and unplanned but still welcomed.

Fitted the new alternator and auxiliary belt recently which after a battle with the bolts to come off, went smoothly.
There's a long standing mystery several people have failed to solve involving a hunting idle, so I've just purchased a recently removed and fully functioning inlet manifold and throttle body to cure the problem, I've also ordered an inlet manifold gasket for when it goes on to make sure there's no vacuum leak issues there. If this fails then I'll be replacing all the surrounding hoses too.

The same guy also had a chipped ECU for the SiR for sale running a well known 'North Wales' map, slightly richer fueling, VTEC at 5krpm with a slightly higher rev limit allowing for a better low end and smoother engagement which responds well with breathing mods such as air intake, 4-2-1 manifold and exhaust, something I've been hunting for. If it removes the speed restrictor and converts to MPH too it'd be welcomed.

Wide arch fibreglass wings purchased. Silly wide compared to standard.
6two1 coilovers should arrive at the store soon, container docked today.
Function7 lower control arms arrived the other day, super shiny goodness.
Integra 1" master cylinder purchased, ready for brake overhaul.
Wheel window shopping. Expense imminent.

@Celicaas @mp10 I'm definitely up for it when we're both in a position to do it! Adam at 6TWO1 does a few track days and I'm excited to join him when my car's ready, you're more than welcome to join if you want to, fair few Hondas tend to show too.
