Calling all NSX fans, and those that might be interested:

I found this article, and it clears up the confusion about whether or not the Honda NSX will be continued. I'm afraid to say that it won't be, but there will be a successor which is nice.

I've posted this here because I know there are many die-hard NSX fans out there, and I thought they may be interested. Now that I know the legend is over, it's made me like the car a little more too...

If you've got any other articles that are similar, or state different view points, feel free to post links for everyone to read.

PS: Sorry if this old news to some, but it is the first definative statement on the fate of the NSX that I've come across.

:)

The current one is gone, but there is a new one planned.

TORRANCE, Calif. 07/11/2005 -- To further enhance the division's performance image, Acura is developing a new sports car to succeed the award-winning NSX supercar. Acura also announced that production of the current generation NSX will cease at the end of the year due to the extensive retooling necessary to meet stringent 2006 emissions and equipment regulations for the U.S., Europe and Asia.

"We are committed to having an ultra high-performance vehicle in the Acura lineup in the future," said John Mendel, senior vice president, automobile operations. "It's too early to comment on specifics, but the all-new model will be just as groundbreaking as the 1991 NSX."

As the first-ever supercar from Japan, the NSX was created as a hand-built, exotic, mid-engine sports car that would establish entirely new levels of performance, refinement and drivability. The NSX went on sale in the summer of 1990 and the following year posted record U.S. sales of 1,940 vehicles. Through June of 2005, NSX cumulative sales totaled 8,854 in the U.S. and more than 18,000 worldwide.

During its 15-year run, the NSX has been showered with accolades including, Automobile Magazine's "Automobile of the Year and Design of the Year" awards, Popular Science's "Best of What's New," Road &Track's "Ten Best Cars in the World" list. Motor Trend magazine also named the NSX to its "Top Ten Performance Cars" list and touted it as "the best sports car ever built."

Acura designed the NSX as a technological and performance showcase. Among other innovations, it was the first production car to feature an all-aluminum body, chassis, and suspension and to utilize titanium connecting rods. It featured a transversely mounted dual overhead cam V-6 engine equipped with Acura's breakthrough VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system and a variable volume induction system.

Over time, the NSX received continuous updates to ensure its competitiveness and popularity with serious sports car enthusiasts. The NSX has also captured multiple championships in the highest levels of sports car and prototype racing.

I can't cry no more, i'm all out of tears from hearing the news before. RIP and God speed NSX-R

No need for tears, it will someday come up again. Look what happend to the Supra...they stopped making them because people wern't buying them and now alot of people want them! Now im hearing about the 2006 Supra.

werd... and hasn't this been discussed in several other threads before?

I would imagine, pretty much as soon as something automotive is found out its posted quickly.

let it go! What a terrible car!
I totally disagree. It's not up to date anymore, obviously, but it is not a terrible car.

Looking at NSX, I can't believe it was designed for market 15 years ago. I still remember seeing the concept design in the car magazine around in '88. It was beautiful then, and I never got tired of the looks of NSX once! I can't say that about too many car designs. 👍

Edit: In the article, they mention the contribution Senna made to the development of NSX. Makes it extra sad. :(

on the off note...................

but kinda related......................

Toyota is finally scrapping the Celica.............a 35 year history that spans three drivetrains ends........

They used to be so cool........... I kinda liked them until early 90's or so.

I don't really like the 7th generation......

FF, riceboy looking..............Toyota totally sold out on the rice boy look for this one....
The Celica was always known as a car both the old and the young generations would love.

Many think the 5th and 6th generations were the best looking.
But I'll admit, those 3rd gen rear wheel drive ones are a lot of fun.
They made a really big mistake not offering a GT-Four version.
I own a ST185 RC Carlos Sainz Edition GT-Four imported from Japan. Bone stock. It's the best car I've ever owned. The air to air intercooler was replaced by a water to air and the ecu is tuned up more from the normal GT-Four. There are a few more tweeks that pump it up from the normal gt-four on top of the fact that the gt-four had about 30 more hp than the all-trac.
Pumps about 235 hp and 210 on the torque. And.....it's very RARE.
I've had to use a bit of cash on it to keep it in as nice a condition as it is, but I've actually had a guy once walk up to me on the street who knew what it was and offered me 20 grand for it.
I was kinda hoping that toyota would get it's act together and put out a REAL celica again but alas....
RIP.
I've had mine for a few years now and have two other GT-Fours fully apart in boxes inside my house. The body paneling and a few other large items I'll have to buy, but engine-wise, I've got all the spares I need minus a few cheap items that you can find easy. I dont' think I'll ever get rid of this car. Ever. I'll never find another one like it.

I was hoping for a comeback too. Sounds like you have got a really nice one though. I'm jealous!

well, the real trick is to keep up on it.
I plan on owning this car forever. Even if I wreak it I'll rebuild. If the frame gets screwed, I'll grab a gt-four and build it on that.(since they are the same)
The problem with that is.......in order to keep it in a "like new" condition, I have to fix everything as soon as I see a problem. It's costly but who out there can say their incredibly rare "normal everyday" looking car looks like it's on the dealers lot the day it was released? Most cars like this just get used and abused because they " are everywhere".

I agree. You let it go too long, and it could turn into a project car. You got a pretty rare sports car there, I hope you do get to keep her forever. 👍

let it go! What a terrible car!

And your basing this on.....??

I dont see why they dont continue the NSX name. It may have something to do with not being able to live up to and exceed the level of respect and automotive excellence that the current model retains....

You have a curious definition of "bone stock".

exactly. That's what toyota did to it. The Carlos Sainz Limited came with those from toyota.
I have left it exactly as toyota made it. Toyota did a few other minor tweeks but I don't know what they are. Does anyone have a source for that?
Actually. I lied. Sorry, I forgot. I put new seats in the drivers side front with a 5 point harness and a pair of fuzzy dice on the rear view mirror.

Im really upset by that because next to Ferrari my fav car is the NSX, its a cheap fast and wonderful looking sports car that will be missed. I myself hope to own one soon.
